Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
I am beyond disappointed to now find out Cedar Cove was cancelled. My 10 year old daughter and I faithfully watched as this show was kid friendly. It’s amazing how clean shows get canned quick while these violent, adult themed shows go on strong! Wow..just when I thought we found the best station ever they go and cancel one the best shows ever!
My wife and I watched every episode from the beginning and we enjoyed it. Not only the show but the background. I think you have made a mistake cancelling the series. We are very dedicated Hallmark viewers. We wish we got get your movie channel as well, but cannot afford to pay extra for it.
This was one of my husband and mine’s favorite show. He doesn’t usually watch Hallmark but really liked this. Was looking forward to see how relationships turned out; we’ll never know now.
I enjoyed Cedar Cove. I’m so disappointed that it ended. Especially with so many loose ends left.
Very disappointed this show was cancelled. Sure wish t would comeback
This show should not have been cancelled without tying up all of the loose ends. They need to have a 2hour movie to tie all of the loose ends up!
I have been watching Cedar Cove from the beginning and am very disappointed to hear that it was cancelled. I wish you would bring it back
I love watching the Hallmark channel and their series are excellent, I watch all of them. My favorite was and still is Cedar Cove. I can’t believe Hallmark would cancel it and especially without ending the stories. I would much rather watch this show than a made for television movie or any reality show, but it looks like Hallmark followed suit of the other stations and cancelled a great, well cast show. It was great to sit and watch show where murder, rape and sex were NOT a focus point. It was a good, clean show. Please Hallmark reconsider cancelling… Read more »
Can’t believe they cancelled this show. I’m really going to miss it. Hallmark continues to produce their lame mysteries and Signed, Sealed Delivered. Those should have gone bye, bye. Maybe they could have changed writers on Cedar Cove instead of cancelling. Hallmark, you’re our only hope for clean, wholesome TV viewing.
It’s not so much that it wasn’t going to renew but in cases like this it is very frustrating that there couldn’t at leas have been a couple episodes to close all of the open ended stories
Yet another master stroke from the team that produced the the completely disorganized Hallmark schedules and seasons!
I am very sad to see a good wholesome show cancelled, but this isn’t surprising as no one wants to support a show that isn’t full of sex and vulgar language
Very disappointed. It is much better than some of the other programming. I can’t believe they ended it so abruptly with so any story lines up in the air. Poor decision!
They always cancelled a great show what do the station owners know it,s the people who love it that counts. They put on on stupid realty shows which sucks and has no values or story. Hopefully there is a smartest tv station to take this on. Bad chose hallmark .
Loved the show and was sad to hear it has been canceled. Would love to see it return!
Found the show very entertaining, looked forward to seeing it every week. Wish it would return.
