Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
Still looking for some sort of closure instead of the abrupt ending with many unanswered questions. Hopefully ’Cedar Cove’ will return one day to give us a smoother transition.
What a shame. Finally something decent on TV and it is cancelled. Very disappointed in Hallmark
I hope to see a season 4, I loved every episode of the first 3 seasons…. I so looked forward to seeing a new show every week.
I have read the Cedar Cove series and I loved it. I just started watching the series on the Hallmark Channel. I am terribly upset that it won’t continue. I would love to see Hallmark reinstate it and finish the series or would love to have it picked up.
The books and series are such a welcome from the ‘crap’ that’s on TV now.
Cedar Cove should never have been canceled. I continue to watch it over and over as I try to imagine how it would be to continue it as a series. Please consider renewing the show for all of us Cedar Cove lovers.
There should be a 4th season to tie up all the loose ends then let it go. Every story deserves an ending.
I just got the Hallmark channel and I’m watching Cedar Cove. Really too bad that this show – with good writing good directing good acting good characters good setting and good storyline- is being canceled when so much other junk isn’t canceled. At the very least do a final movie that wraps the whole thing up. I find it very weird that if you know you’re going to cancel something, that you don’t do a finale to wrap it up.
Should NEVER HAVE CANCELED THIS SERIES!!!
I liked the series and was disappointed with the cliff hanger ending! We need to see how Paul and Olivia play out!
It is a great tv show! very disappointed they cancelled it; it should by all means continue with season 4,5… I don’t understand how can such program be discontinued and other no-quality shows have much more seas?
Would love to have closure to this series unanswered questions. I watched all three seasons in a few days. Love it!
It would be great to see a Cedar Cove movie picking up where the last season left off, giving us a story and wrapping things up in a nice way.
We loved the Cedar Cove Series! Please don’t leave us hanging! Figure out a way to keep it going.
I just started watching Hallmark Movies Now & I saw Cedar Cove Series. I watched all three seasons loved it. Since season 3 ended with Paul asking Olivia if she had feelings for him we were hoping for an answer.
I would like to suggest a 2 hour movie continuing where the series left off. The fans would be thrilled to see who Olivia chose to be with.
Thanks for your consideration!
Debbie
We just recently watched this series. We enjoyed watching so much please at least don’t leave us hanging .
