Crossovers are commonplace on NBC’s Chicago series, but what about a four-show crossover? Recently, executive producers Matt Olmstead and Derek Haas spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the future of Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, Chicago Med, and the newest installment—Chicago Justice.
Part of Dick Wolf’s Chicago franchise, the upcoming legal drama follows the “State’s Attorney’s dedicated team of prosecutors and investigators navigate heated city politics and controversy head-on, while fearlessly pursuing justice.” The cast includes Philip Winchester, Carl Weathers, Monica Barbaro, and former Chicago PD star Jon Seda.
In the interview, Olmstead and Haas teased an upcoming crossover between Chicago Fire and Chicago PD that centers on “Severide (Taylor Kinney) in the hot seat after his car is found to have caused a deadly crash”:
We’ve always come back from winter finales and it seems like we’re the first shows NBC has back in January and people are ready for the shows to come back so soon and we’re always ramping up storylines. It was Matt’s idea: Why don’t we do a Severide-centric storyline that crosses from Fire right into P.D. and that’s the first episode back from the winter finale. So that came from our end.”
When asked about a possible four-way crossover, Haas said it’s “only a matter of time”:
As Dick [Wolf] always says, Justice is the fourth leg under the table of his Chicago dream, and so there’s no way that he’s going to let us go too long without crossing over. I don’t know about a four-show crossover. I don’t know if that’s a two-show, but we already have put Justice characters onto episodes of Fire and P.D., and that will continue. It’s only a matter of time until there’s one case that rocks the city so much that you’re going to call all of the cities’ heroes together. Do you like how I just sold that? (Laughs.)”
The Chicago Fire/Chicago PD crossover airs tonight, January 3rd, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on NBC. Chicago Justice premieres on March 5th.
What do you think? Are you a fan of NBC’s Chicago franchise? Do you want a four-show crossover?
I’m sure it will happen, but they can’t stretch it out over more than 3-4 days. If it starts on a Thursday and ends on a Wednesday, that would take too much time. If it starts in a Sunday and ends on a Thursday, that might be as long as they should make everyone wait. I’m sure they will move a 1-2 of the shows around so it all happens in a 3 day span.
