Code Black just wrapped its third and final season, but is there a chance for more? Recently, creator Michael Seitzman spoke with Deadline about the possible future of the cancelled CBS TV show.
The medical drama unfolds at Angels Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles — the busiest, most notorious ER in the country. The cast includes Marcia Gay Harden, Luis Guzmán, Boris Kodjoe, Harry Ford, Benjamin Hollingsworth, William Allen Young, Emily Tyra, Noah Gray-Cabey, Emily Alyn Lind, Moon Bloodgood, and Rob Lowe.
In the interview, Seitzman said he’s proud of the how Code Black ended:
One of the things I always wanted to explore in the show is the nature of grief. I wanted to be honest about it, face it head on, and really explore how messy it is, how mysterious it is, and how miraculous it is when we finally see some light. The way we dealt with it for all three seasons, with our patients and our doctors, is something I’m very proud of, especially the way we delved into it with Rob Lowe’s Ethan Willis this season, in looking at his PTSD and the way his mind processed his grief and guilt when it came to his brother.”
However, the CBS series creator revealed he did have plans for a fourth season:
There’s an aspect to Ryan McGarry’s documentary, which inspired the show, which I always found interesting. When the staff was moving from the old LA County Medical Center to the new one. It shook them up in a very particular way. In a way, there were ghosts in that old building that they found they needed and those ghosts didn’t exist in the new building. It affected the way they approached their jobs and their patients and they wondered if they could still be as intimate with them in the new building. I always wanted to do that in Code Black, take our staff out of Angels Memorial and see what would happen if we moved them into a new building. Flying a plane into Angels seemed to make that an easy creative transition.”
And what are the chances of a renewal from another network? Seitzman says they’re all still hopeful:
The studio has reached out to all of the streaming services. To be honest, we haven’t heard back from them yet. We’re hopeful.”

We love this show. Please bring it back. The medical drama with the intertwined lives of the “Code Black family” keep us coming back for more every week. Not sure why CBS would even entertain cancelling this show! Please reconsider.
Honestly one of best shows on television. Not sure how mediocre shows tend to last for years and CB gets the axe, just as characters are being developed. A shame!!

What an absolute wrong action for this network, this is hands down the best TV show at present…what a Mistake!
They should not have cancelled the show. Anytime a series has any depth, they cancel it. Unbelievable. So frustrating.

Please bring it back how could a show like this that has everything be cut. With all the useless garbage shows that are on. A valuable life show like this real life show is needed. It’s something that everyday people can relate to and learn from.
I would definitely watch another season of Code Black. It’s a great show with a great cast. CBS is my favorite station but they
made a mistake on this one. Big disappointment.
I’ve looked forward to watching Code Black every season. It’s a great drama series with lots of different elements and storylines to follow in each episode. Can’t understand why CBS won t continue with a season 4. I hope another network picks it up so CBS ‘s upper management is proved wrong….. Cide Black was a keeper.

Seems like every time we find a REALLY good show, some network bigwig cancels it??? We would love to see someone pick it up. The last episode got all the love birds together but it would be interesting to see how those relationships could be developed. Seems like there’s still a lot of story to tell here. If there’s no “main stream media” network smart enough to grab it, hopefully Netflix will. YES for season 4, 5, …..
One of the absolute best shows on television. Should NEVER have been cancelled!
This is one of the best medical tv shows I’ve ever seen. The cast is first rate. I can’t believe the network is canceling the show. It should definitely be renewed for another season.

Please, please please bring back Code Black! It is the one show that we all watch together.
I have enjoyed this show from the very beginning…however, there is a lot of competition for this time slot on other stations…makes having a DVR a must.
A fourth season of code black would be awesome. Saddened there might not be one. not much for medical shows however this one is a winner for me.. it makes me laugh, it makes me cry. lets keep it going!!!!!
