Code Black just wrapped its third and final season, but is there a chance for more? Recently, creator Michael Seitzman spoke with Deadline about the possible future of the cancelled CBS TV show.
The medical drama unfolds at Angels Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles — the busiest, most notorious ER in the country. The cast includes Marcia Gay Harden, Luis Guzmán, Boris Kodjoe, Harry Ford, Benjamin Hollingsworth, William Allen Young, Emily Tyra, Noah Gray-Cabey, Emily Alyn Lind, Moon Bloodgood, and Rob Lowe.
In the interview, Seitzman said he’s proud of the how Code Black ended:
One of the things I always wanted to explore in the show is the nature of grief. I wanted to be honest about it, face it head on, and really explore how messy it is, how mysterious it is, and how miraculous it is when we finally see some light. The way we dealt with it for all three seasons, with our patients and our doctors, is something I’m very proud of, especially the way we delved into it with Rob Lowe’s Ethan Willis this season, in looking at his PTSD and the way his mind processed his grief and guilt when it came to his brother.”
However, the CBS series creator revealed he did have plans for a fourth season:
There’s an aspect to Ryan McGarry’s documentary, which inspired the show, which I always found interesting. When the staff was moving from the old LA County Medical Center to the new one. It shook them up in a very particular way. In a way, there were ghosts in that old building that they found they needed and those ghosts didn’t exist in the new building. It affected the way they approached their jobs and their patients and they wondered if they could still be as intimate with them in the new building. I always wanted to do that in Code Black, take our staff out of Angels Memorial and see what would happen if we moved them into a new building. Flying a plane into Angels seemed to make that an easy creative transition.”
And what are the chances of a renewal from another network? Seitzman says they’re all still hopeful:
The studio has reached out to all of the streaming services. To be honest, we haven’t heard back from them yet. We’re hopeful.”
What do you think? Are you a fan of Code Black? Would you watch a fourth season?

Every time I find a good drama on network tv they cancel it. Hope Netflix will consider this one.
I watch very little, if ANY NETWORK TV…Yet HERE is the one show, I look forward to every Saturday morning, with my cup of coffee AT HOME – Very special first hour of my much deserved weekend , spent WITH Code Black. Please reconsider. A show that shows kindness during difficult times…meaning HOPE. Something we’re ALL IN NEED OF. No reason for CBS TO BE SCARED of “insulted” viewers…as there’s no politics. The public NEEDS a show with HEART. IM ASKING, Along with many others, I would imagine….let the show CONTINUE.
yes i loved that show, i used to work in the emergency room. i would watch it again
Amazed such a great show would be cancelled. Actors were fantastic. It had lots of stories and action. Please some channel or streaming channel bring it back.

One of the best medical drama shows and I should know as I am an RN. Please save this show from being cancelled. It is very true to form of how things happen. BEST SHOW..
We love the characters in this show. They are well developed and likeable. Some of the story lines are heart wrenching, but that’s just good writing! CBS really missed the boat when they cancelled this show!
I love Code Black! It’s a fabulous show! I was very happy that the season finale wrapped up many relationships and issues happily, but sad because that probably meant the series was canceled. If Code Black finds a home somewhere, I will definitely watch it! Please bring it back or let it find a home somewhere else!
Omg this is the best show ever!!! Please bring it back!!

Please somebody bring Code Black back, it is so much better than all the so called reality shows and soap operas. I’m so tired of shows I like being cancelled.
Me too. Nashville is also cancelled. Not sure why I have cable anymore. Stick with Netflix and a $20.00 firestick!
Both my husband and myself are loyal fans of code black and would be overjoyed if the show was picked up for an other station
