Code Black just wrapped its third and final season, but is there a chance for more? Recently, creator Michael Seitzman spoke with Deadline about the possible future of the cancelled CBS TV show.
The medical drama unfolds at Angels Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles — the busiest, most notorious ER in the country. The cast includes Marcia Gay Harden, Luis Guzmán, Boris Kodjoe, Harry Ford, Benjamin Hollingsworth, William Allen Young, Emily Tyra, Noah Gray-Cabey, Emily Alyn Lind, Moon Bloodgood, and Rob Lowe.
In the interview, Seitzman said he’s proud of the how Code Black ended:
One of the things I always wanted to explore in the show is the nature of grief. I wanted to be honest about it, face it head on, and really explore how messy it is, how mysterious it is, and how miraculous it is when we finally see some light. The way we dealt with it for all three seasons, with our patients and our doctors, is something I’m very proud of, especially the way we delved into it with Rob Lowe’s Ethan Willis this season, in looking at his PTSD and the way his mind processed his grief and guilt when it came to his brother.”
However, the CBS series creator revealed he did have plans for a fourth season:
There’s an aspect to Ryan McGarry’s documentary, which inspired the show, which I always found interesting. When the staff was moving from the old LA County Medical Center to the new one. It shook them up in a very particular way. In a way, there were ghosts in that old building that they found they needed and those ghosts didn’t exist in the new building. It affected the way they approached their jobs and their patients and they wondered if they could still be as intimate with them in the new building. I always wanted to do that in Code Black, take our staff out of Angels Memorial and see what would happen if we moved them into a new building. Flying a plane into Angels seemed to make that an easy creative transition.”
And what are the chances of a renewal from another network? Seitzman says they’re all still hopeful:
The studio has reached out to all of the streaming services. To be honest, we haven’t heard back from them yet. We’re hopeful.”
What do you think? Are you a fan of Code Black? Would you watch a fourth season?

This is the best drama on television. I love it and do not want it to end.
One of the best medical drama shows in a long time. My wife and I really feel this show has been outstanding for the last 3 seasons and hopefully a 4th on any network. All the characters are needed in future episodes.
I agree, this is one of the most interesting, action packed, best shows on tv. I absolutely wod watch a season 4!
I LOVED really LOVED this show!! Code Black is one of the best shows on TV today! It’s action packed and Drama filled excitement that does not disappoint!! Someone needs to pick up this show and get it back on the air! Don’t let us down, please PLEASE bring back Code Black!!
I love this show. I don’t think the ratings system takes into account those of us who watch shows through streaming services only and don’t have cable. I ONLY have Hulu, CBS All Access and Netflix, no cable. I watch this show every week and I’m heartbroken that I won’t be able to follow these characters anymore. Great writing, great acting, medical drama. I really hope it’s picked up by one of the streaming networks.
One of my favorites, best medical drama since Grey’s Anatomy hands down. Hope it’s resurrected.
This drama is amazing!!!! Please bring it back.
Please keep this wonderful show going!! Let’s have a 4th, 5th …season!
I really like this show, the personal and professional aspects of how the people handled the serious and not so serious medical conditions showed how human we are. I think if this show is not given a chance at a fourth or more seasons, that we won’t have the chance to see where each person’s lives end up.
Finally a show that gave you the raw truth and sent you on an emotional rollercoaster, and ultimately even gave you ideas on how to deal with those emotions in your everyday life. And they go and cancel it! Typical CBS! Way too good to not be picked up by another network. I’ll be waiting for season 4!
My husband enjoyed Code Black very disappointed it was cancelled. The reality
Shows are horrible entertainment.
This was one of the few shows we watched.
Surprised and VERY DISAPPOINTED to see this say series finale while watching this weeks show! I’d definitely watch a season 4 somewhere, HULU! NETFLIX. PICK THIS ONE UP PLEASE!!!
I think Code Black is one of the top 2 series on TV. It is very sad to learn that CBS has cancelled it. I think it’s a very big mistake. I hope another network picks up the show.
I really hope to see it picked up I can continue watching it. I love Code Black and have since the beginning.
I loved Code Black. I am heart broken that is has been canceled. It stirred emotions. It made you laugh, cry and gave you the desire to be better. There is so little quality TV. Please, please bring it back.
Loved this show. Human characters with flaws but eminently likeable and striving for better. Very disappointed in cancellation. Will follow a fourth season if it happens.
