After seven years on the beat, the show’s over for Detective Lily Rush (Kathryn Morris). CBS has officially cancelled Cold Case.
Each episode of Cold Case begins by showing an unsolved crime from the past. The scene then flashes forward to the present day and a group of homicide detectives try to piece together what really happened, using old evidence and new interviews. The series stars Morris, Danny Pino, John Finn, Jeremy Ratchford, Thom Barry, and Tracie Thoms.
Cold Case began in September of 2003 and quickly became a staple of the CBS Sunday night schedule. The crime drama had a successful first season and, by season two, was averaging a 3.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 15.1 million viewers. For the next couple seasons, total viewership fell a bit but the all-important demo numbers rose, reaching a 3.8 in season four.
Unfortunately the ratings have come down quite a bit since then. In season five, the show averaged a 2.9 rating and about 12 million viewers. Last season, Cold Case sank lower, to an average of a 2.7 rating and CBS made a choice between renewing ailing Without a Trace or Cold Case. They chose to keep Cold Case but may have regretted it pretty quickly. This season, the show’s ratings dropped even further to a 2.15 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 9.6 million viewers.

So, while the overall viewership isn’t terrible, the demo numbers are and that’s what brings the ad dollars. CBS often has the most total viewers, but they are often lacking in the 18-49 demo department.
To no surprise, CBS has cancelled Cold Case after seven years on the air. The show won’t be back for season eight next fall. Sadly, the show is not available on DVD. It’s believed that securing the rights for the show’s extensive use of period music is problematic.

Bummed…this was my fav show. I don’t even watch much TV but this show was worth turning it on!
I knew Cold Case couldn’t survive being placed after Amazing Race. Too many reality shows that don’t require any brain power. Cold Case was a great show with a cast that worked well together. It appealed to people who liked a challenge instead of watching mindless programs like Amazing Race, Bridezillas, Housewives of NJ and other dumb shows. There is too much of that stuff on TV. Bring Cold Case back!! Put it on a night where it’s not competing against stupid sitcoms or dumb “reality” shows.
i loved cod case…the reason ratings fell is because you put it on after football half of the time i couldnt get but half the show on my dvr or some times it wouldnt come on ,to many reruns i loved this show i catch it on tbs some times but they r reruns also i dont think this show should have ended i think cbs should have something about hte time and the day that it was showing
I loved Cold Case and Without a Trace. Reality shows are so stupid.
Such a sad state when mindless dribble shows such as Bad Girls are top in rateings and thought provoking shows like Cold Case are ended. Not the fault of the networks people, who is watching Bad Girls,and what does that say about us a a civil society?
CANCELING COLD CASE WAS SO STUPID THERE ARE SO MANY DUMD ASS PROGRAMS THAT SHOULD BE CANCEL. AMAZING RACE IS ONE,REAL DESPARATE HOUSEWIVES NJ. AND THERE ARE STILL SO MANY OUT THERE ARE THAT ARE JUST STUPID. LOST IS ANOTHER…..
They should’ve cancel that DUMB-ASS Amazing Race, Not Cold Case.
CBS screwed Cold Case by leaving it on Sunday night. During the fall season it was always pushed back to a later time because of Football. I would have like to have seen it on a different day where it would have had stability to its time slot and the viewers.

The rating wouldnt have dropped on cold case if the show every played on time klast season. Most of the time i couldnt even watch it because you never knew when it would start. CBS killed it when they moved
it to sunday night at 10 looks like they want to do the same to csi miami. They should take cancel that stupid amazing race.

A GIANT COLD CASE FAN…8TH 9TH
I remember some years ago that CBS inserted “The Amazing Race” right after “60 Minutes” (replacing the regular “Cold Case”). We had to wait another hour to see “Cold Case”. No wonder the ratings failed. The audience that watched “60 Minutes” probably stayed tuned to watch “Cold”. I know that I switched channels when “Amazing” followed “60 Minutes”. And probably so did the other viewers. A great program that got dropped for inserting another “reality” program into the TV ratings mix. CBS made another poor choice, and the viewers lost something great to watch.
i love cold case what is up with you people, take the stupid shows off the real housewife stuff waste of time, man you people are crazy
