After seven years on the beat, the show’s over for Detective Lily Rush (Kathryn Morris). CBS has officially cancelled Cold Case.
Each episode of Cold Case begins by showing an unsolved crime from the past. The scene then flashes forward to the present day and a group of homicide detectives try to piece together what really happened, using old evidence and new interviews. The series stars Morris, Danny Pino, John Finn, Jeremy Ratchford, Thom Barry, and Tracie Thoms.
Cold Case began in September of 2003 and quickly became a staple of the CBS Sunday night schedule. The crime drama had a successful first season and, by season two, was averaging a 3.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 15.1 million viewers. For the next couple seasons, total viewership fell a bit but the all-important demo numbers rose, reaching a 3.8 in season four.
Unfortunately the ratings have come down quite a bit since then. In season five, the show averaged a 2.9 rating and about 12 million viewers. Last season, Cold Case sank lower, to an average of a 2.7 rating and CBS made a choice between renewing ailing Without a Trace or Cold Case. They chose to keep Cold Case but may have regretted it pretty quickly. This season, the show’s ratings dropped even further to a 2.15 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 9.6 million viewers.

So, while the overall viewership isn’t terrible, the demo numbers are and that’s what brings the ad dollars. CBS often has the most total viewers, but they are often lacking in the 18-49 demo department.
To no surprise, CBS has cancelled Cold Case after seven years on the air. The show won’t be back for season eight next fall. Sadly, the show is not available on DVD. It’s believed that securing the rights for the show’s extensive use of period music is problematic.

Last time I watched Cold Case was in 2007. Last week I caught a rerun episode and thought I’d check out current day episodes. To find out it was cancelled really bums me out.

This was my families favorite show we would actually watch it together I loved everything about the show and my kids keep asking when it’s coming back on we can’t believe that they would cancel it if they are not going to bring the show back I would atleast like them to re show seasons 1-7 because I would watch everyone of them all over again please bein cold case back
I loved the show. It gave you a chance to look back and the way it was done was great. The network should have tried something else before canceling it. I am still waiting for reruns of a later time. The old ones are outplayed. Come on give it a whirl!
Should never have been cancelled as it was one of the best shows on TV. Shame it will never see the light of day on DVD due to the music rights which was part of the reason the show was so great. At least Sky Atlantic has just started the re runs from the beginning of season one
why would th music rights prevent the show from being on dvd, loads of people I know would love it on DVD myself included.
This was one of our favorite shows because it mixes mystery with history plus old music and old memories. I am really sorry to see this show go. And so is my dearly beloved. We loved this show.
Honestly in my opinion is the most fantastic show at TV. I don’t understand why the authorities canceled this really cool and awaking TV show. Even didn’t had so much viewers the decent way is that could be kept for the other millions people who really like it. Besides the subjects of the movie are so stimulating because is teaching everyone that we have to pay attention how we live our lives because the past can get you any time. I am so upset I can no longer find Cold Case anywhere! I truly loved the show, the story line was amazing and it’s actually somewhat believable! I loved the way it went from present to past and the actors and actresses they chose fit their roles! Please bring it back

download it torrent, I got all 7 seasons here 😉 illegal maybe yes, but its their own mistake should bring it out on DVD then, simple as that.
I was so disappointed. My husband and I LOVED this show. It was something we would be looking for. We both have a tied schedule .
Too bad the show was canceled it had great flow and I found after season three I was playing detective watching the little things happening in the story behind the cases they were working on to see what things were leading up to.
Should throw a two hour TV special to wrap the series up properly.

I am devastated that Cold Case has been cancelled. I anxiously awaited Wednesdays because Cold Case was shown all day. Yes, I think I became addicted but it was a fantastic show and the actors were like family. The actors meshed together and gave excellent performances. OMG, I really miss that show! Wish your writers could come up with a Season 8. And, NO, I haven’t posted a comment before.

Cold Case was my favorite show. I don’t watch a lot of tv but I loved that one. There are so many stupid shows on I can’t see how they could cancel such a gripping one. Outside of The Big Bang Theory it’s the only one I watched on a regular basis.
