The struggle (and story) of the Bowman family ends tonight. The Colony TV show has been cancelled after three seasons but, would you have watched more episodes and a fourth season? Should it have been dropped?
A USA Network sci-fi drama, Colony stars Josh Holloway, Sarah Wayne Callies, Tory Kittles, Peter Jacobson, and Alex Neustaedter. The story unfolds in the near-future, in a world where citizens are under military occupation by the Colony Transitional Authority, as part of a large extraterrestrial invasion. Former FBI agent Will Bowman (Holloway) and wife Katie (Callies) were raising their daughter and two sons in Los Angeles, but were separated from the younger boy during the invasion and did everything they could to get him back. The third season kicked off six months after the season two finale, with Will and Katie rebuilding their family in the world beyond the walls. They begin a journey during which they uncover the truth behind the occupation. Once again, this family finds themselves having to choose sides.
The show debuted in January 2016 and got off to a positive start with a 0.44 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 1.36 million viewers. The series lost some steam over the course of the season. The first year averaged a 0.38 rating with 1.13 million and it was renewed for a second season.
Season two of Colony launched in January 2017 and the 13 episodes ended up averaging a 0.26 demo rating with 814,000 viewers. Compared to season one, that was down by 31% in the demo and 28% in viewership. Still, Colony was renewed for a third year even before the season two finale aired.
USA didn’t start running season three until May 2018. Thus far, the third season has averaged a 0.17 demo rating with 672,000 viewers. Compared to last year, that’s down by 36% and 18%, respectively.
Colony is currently one of USA Network’s lower-rated scripted series but, other shows aren’t doing that much better. While it’s not a complete surprise that USA cancelled Colony, they could have easily renewed it to wrap up the story with a final season. Unfortunately, they opted to end the series after three seasons and 36 episodes.

I’m FURIOUS @ USA for dropping the show! It’s 1 of the best out there & just when it was getting to the major battle w/aliens, they drop it! Im sick in general of networks dropping quality shows for reality crap & other trash! I’m hoping Netflix or Scfy will consider p/up the show to give fans a S4 to finish the story.

Yes, I most definitely would keep watching this intriguing show. I just watched the cliffhanger “season” finale, that ended up as a season finale. This is a big f-u to the series’ loyal followers, and now, seeing the next season lineup, I will no longer be a USA viewer. To end such a great series without a well-deserved wrap-up tells me that USA’s priorities are going in the wrong direction.
I am so mad they are cancelling this show. Sick of good shows, no great shows, like this being cancelled! This was one of the smarter shows. Probably why they cancelled it, wasn’t dumbed down enough. SMH Network execs are about as stupid as stupid can get. They don’t do shows any good by not keeping them consistently in their time zones and properly marketing them., and taking to long to bring them back. I am very pissed off at USA Network. This was the only show on their network I watched and I looked forward to every episode
After three years of loyalty to this show the network owes us a movie to wrap up the storylines. To end it at the start of the big war with no resolution is cruel and tells me USA has no loyalty to fans. If they don’t make this right then fans won’t see the point in watching other shows on the network. Otherwise it can keep happening.
It made no sense to end the show on this episode as the war starts. After three years of loyalty the least the Network could do is give us a finale movie
Oh my gosh!!!!! I’m sick of the people canceling good shows! I’m addicted to watching Colony. Now what am I to do. I need to know what’s going to happen to everyone,
Just watched season 3 episode 13 which seemed like you just cut off the ending. I looked the show up on web to find out you just up and canceled season 4. The least you could have done was provided a series finale, I am sure you have left many many disappointed Colony fans with no closure. I would love to hear that you reconsider and provide a final season.
Colony has been one of the few Sci-fi series we enjoyed watching. It has interesting plots and great acting. Furthermore, it gives many people sparks of imagination for technology and science innovations.
Smaller networks like USA need to be careful. Cancelling a show like Colony without finalizing the series makes me leery of watching any of their shows. The other major networks tend to finalize better.
I’m in shock to just learn Colony is cancelled. Really bummed. I definitely would watch a Season 4 especially if it would wrap up the show with a good ending. Way too many shows are being cancelled these days. I’m kinda gun shy to start watching any new shows cause so many are cancelled after Season 1.
Love this show! So disappointed that it was cancelled. Please reconsider, and bring it back!!!
JUST WHEN YOU FINALLY GET TO PUT THE GAPS IN THE STORY LINE TOGETHER; FROM LAST SEASON. THEY THROW YOU A CURVE AND CAN THE SHOW. I DIDN’T KNOW IF I WERE COMING OR GOING. BUT DON’T WORRY ….MURPHY BROWN… IS COMING BACK ALONG WITH ….MAGNUM P.I. PLEASE THE SHOWS JUMPED THE SHARK—HIT THE WALL YEARS AGO. IS EVERYONE SLEEPING OR ARE RETREADS THE OLD-NEW WAY OF ENTERTAINMENT. GOD HELP US ALL; I GUESS I’LL JUST BUY MORE GOOD MOVIES WHEN THEY GET RELEASED. I can’t believe this is it. It was getting better and better. I really need to see how this all turns out!
