The struggle (and story) of the Bowman family ends tonight. The Colony TV show has been cancelled after three seasons but, would you have watched more episodes and a fourth season? Should it have been dropped?
A USA Network sci-fi drama, Colony stars Josh Holloway, Sarah Wayne Callies, Tory Kittles, Peter Jacobson, and Alex Neustaedter. The story unfolds in the near-future, in a world where citizens are under military occupation by the Colony Transitional Authority, as part of a large extraterrestrial invasion. Former FBI agent Will Bowman (Holloway) and wife Katie (Callies) were raising their daughter and two sons in Los Angeles, but were separated from the younger boy during the invasion and did everything they could to get him back. The third season kicked off six months after the season two finale, with Will and Katie rebuilding their family in the world beyond the walls. They begin a journey during which they uncover the truth behind the occupation. Once again, this family finds themselves having to choose sides.
The show debuted in January 2016 and got off to a positive start with a 0.44 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 1.36 million viewers. The series lost some steam over the course of the season. The first year averaged a 0.38 rating with 1.13 million and it was renewed for a second season.
Season two of Colony launched in January 2017 and the 13 episodes ended up averaging a 0.26 demo rating with 814,000 viewers. Compared to season one, that was down by 31% in the demo and 28% in viewership. Still, Colony was renewed for a third year even before the season two finale aired.
USA didn’t start running season three until May 2018. Thus far, the third season has averaged a 0.17 demo rating with 672,000 viewers. Compared to last year, that’s down by 36% and 18%, respectively.
Colony is currently one of USA Network’s lower-rated scripted series but, other shows aren’t doing that much better. While it’s not a complete surprise that USA cancelled Colony, they could have easily renewed it to wrap up the story with a final season. Unfortunately, they opted to end the series after three seasons and 36 episodes.
What do you think? Do you think that USA should have cancelled the Colony TV show? Should the series have been renewed for a fourth (and final) season or, is season three a good place to end it?
I would surely have watched the Tenth Season of Colony if it ran that long. It was great. Simply The BEST. Honestly, this is the only show I watched but this is what happens to the Good shows they KILL it and keep the CRAP. It was well written and the actors were perfect. As viewers, we do not get to know the truth about the WHY? Let us not beat up ourselves because this is show business. Hollywood is all about money everyone is in it for the same reasons. Money talks and the people in charge do not… Read more »
This show is worth another season. Certainly those of us who have been loyal to this show deserve a resolution. Please Netflix or someone else rescue the loyal followers of Colony.
Very disappointed. Season 3 was far superior to see season 1 and season 2. Also extremely disappointed they didn’t at least wrap story up. I really don’t watch any shows on the big three networks ABC, NBC, or CBS because you invest your time in a show and they cancel it way too early. The cable network shows seem to be a little more immune to that but I guess that’s no longer the case. Love the show, will miss it.
No we love the show. I’m really upset
I would definitely have watched another season – it has absolutely been one of my favorites!! Maybe Netflix or Amazon could pick it up, like Amazon did with The Expanse?? We can all send our wishes for another season to both – if enough people make a fuss, who knows what could happen!?!
I’d love to see another season, but season three did take a step backward. When the last episode ended, I feared for the worst. Such an open ending too – it could go so many interesting directions in a 4th season. This third season felt like the production was really working within constraints – locations really got reduced, and it seems like the clear vision of the first two seasons was lost. Will’s character arc from the first to last ep in season three is an amazing transformation however. I didn’t think Wayne Brady was good casting, and real star… Read more »
Really liked this show. Put it on Netflix!!!
I had to record to see the series but it is great story. Please bring it back or at least a movie ending.
Such ********! Why do all the ****** crappy shows get renewed??? And cancel good ones??? Someone needs to pick this show up. #netflix #renewcolony
I love the Colony and couldn’t wait to watch it each week. I am so disappointed that it has been cancelled. I don’t like being so invested in a story that they can’t even give it the proper send off and more seasons.
Yes, I would have watched to the end. Not surprised that the show is ending. The writing was thoughtful, the story took time to develop and there just isn’t that kind of patience in the millenial world. Quick hits: get in and out and wrap it in a bow. Oh… And there was no singing/dancing in the script .. who likes shows without that!
if the time was moved to 9 pm, the audience would have been greater, i am very tired of all the comic book tv series coming out as wll the fake reality tv ( i know it is cheaper to make,)- people like a serial show how else can the networks keep the people coming back
If ratings were a concern then USA should have advertised it better!
So BUMMED!!!! Just binge watched all three seasons!!! BOOOOOO USA!!!!
So disappointed! This was my favorite show and I watched each episode more than once. No longer have any desire to watch USA channel. Hope Netflix or someone else picks it up where the last episode ended. Have had ENOUGH with the garbage shows on TV!!!
