The struggle (and story) of the Bowman family ends tonight. The Colony TV show has been cancelled after three seasons but, would you have watched more episodes and a fourth season? Should it have been dropped?
A USA Network sci-fi drama, Colony stars Josh Holloway, Sarah Wayne Callies, Tory Kittles, Peter Jacobson, and Alex Neustaedter. The story unfolds in the near-future, in a world where citizens are under military occupation by the Colony Transitional Authority, as part of a large extraterrestrial invasion. Former FBI agent Will Bowman (Holloway) and wife Katie (Callies) were raising their daughter and two sons in Los Angeles, but were separated from the younger boy during the invasion and did everything they could to get him back. The third season kicked off six months after the season two finale, with Will and Katie rebuilding their family in the world beyond the walls. They begin a journey during which they uncover the truth behind the occupation. Once again, this family finds themselves having to choose sides.
The show debuted in January 2016 and got off to a positive start with a 0.44 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 1.36 million viewers. The series lost some steam over the course of the season. The first year averaged a 0.38 rating with 1.13 million and it was renewed for a second season.
Season two of Colony launched in January 2017 and the 13 episodes ended up averaging a 0.26 demo rating with 814,000 viewers. Compared to season one, that was down by 31% in the demo and 28% in viewership. Still, Colony was renewed for a third year even before the season two finale aired.
USA didn’t start running season three until May 2018. Thus far, the third season has averaged a 0.17 demo rating with 672,000 viewers. Compared to last year, that’s down by 36% and 18%, respectively.
Colony is currently one of USA Network’s lower-rated scripted series but, other shows aren’t doing that much better. While it’s not a complete surprise that USA cancelled Colony, they could have easily renewed it to wrap up the story with a final season. Unfortunately, they opted to end the series after three seasons and 36 episodes.
What do you think? Do you think that USA should have cancelled the Colony TV show? Should the series have been renewed for a fourth (and final) season or, is season three a good place to end it?
I would have most definitely kept watching! A great show, and the season/series finale left us hanging big time.
Absolutely, I would watch a Season 4, 5 and 6! How can you leave all these characters hanging like we saw in the S3 Finale.
Yes I would watch season 4, hoping Netflix or someone would at least finish the show with closure.
I would be very happy to see Colony have a season 4 or more. Loved watching the show each week. I even found it hard to wait almost a year to the next season to start. It has really great characters and a lot of action.
Before cancelling a show, it would be nice to at the very least give the show a chance to add closure. To leave us dangling like this is moronic.
Absolutely, I would watch a Season 4, 5 and 6! How can you leave all these characters hanging like we saw in the S3 Finale. WTH (What the heck! 😉 I’ve seen every episode and in the old-fashioned way, watching it on my TV on the day it was first aired. And this hurts even worse than ABC cancelling The Crossing after only 10 episodes this spring. Here, I’ve invested 3 years and 36 episodes into the Bowman family (and friends) and I can’t believe they’re just cavalierly axing it just when it’s gotten to the most dangerous and exciting… Read more »
Defiantly not going to watch anything from USA again if there isn’t a fourth season. The cancellation of this show literally makes no sense. If the show was underpreforming why not just give the writers a half season to wrap it up. I mean they are right there. The end could probably have been told in 4 episodes. Will and other soldiers arrive on the planet, two episodes of fighting with flashes to the going ons back on earth, 3rd episode showing the resistance taking out the IGA and last showing the aftermath/rebuilding phase of the world reflecting on the… Read more »
I wish I could watch a season 4. I can think of a lot of TV shows that ended without resolution that still kills me not to know what he happened to this day and this will be at the top of that list. After watching the finale I can not believe I’m not going to find out what happens next. That’s one of the worst ways to go out. Everthing just hanging wondering what would happen next.
Definitely would have watched a S4. I’ve watched since the first episode and while S2 got a bit muddled, S3 felt more pulled together with clear storylines. Now I feel cheated. USA always had excellent original programming, but now they are becoming just another cable network. I mean “The Purge” miniseries – Pass. More than one drug-related series – Pass. Suits – I loved that show but barely could get through the last round. I only stayed to see Mike & Rachel’s story wrap up. The rest is just a shell of its original premise with repetitive storylines & no… Read more »
We would definitely watch if it came back for season 4, my wife and I love the show.
Definitely should have been a fourth season. How could they leave us like this??? Discourages me from even thinking of watching or getting involved in another mini series on the usa network. Why get involved when they just drop the whole story leaving us hanging. We never really had a finale. What happened to the hosts and the enemy of the hosts? How do we defend ourselves or fight the camouflaged aliens that was briefly introduced? What was the reasoning for the alien technology and the cooperation with Seattle?? Way too many scenarios and course of actions left on the… Read more »
I and my wife will miss the show . If you bring it back we would watch ti
I’m really bummed that there won’t be a season 4! Colony was one of my favorite TV shows. They could have at least continued with a season 4 to better wrap up the series.
Would absolutely have watched season 4!
Definitely would have watched season 4.
Yes I would have watched season 4 one of my favorite shows all the good shows get cancelled
