The doctor is out. There won’t be a second season of the Complications TV show. USA Network has decided to cancel the drama series after one season of 10 episodes.
Complications follows a disillusioned suburban doctor (Jason O’Mara) who’s still dealing with the emotional effects of his young daughter’s death from cancer. He unexpectedly becomes a vigilante hero when he intervenes in a drive-by shooting, saving a 12-year-old boy’s life. The rest of the cast includes Jessica Szohr, Lauren Stamile, Chris Chalk, Beth Riesgraf, and RonReaco Lee.
The series got off to a lackluster start in the ratings in late June with a 0.41 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 1.91 million viewers. Viewership saw a big drop in week two and remained pretty poor for the rest of the season. The 10 episodes ended up averaging a 0.35 in the demo with 1.44 million.
Except for Suits, all of USA’s existing dramas have been way down year-to-year and none of their new ones have been a hit in the ratings (including Mr. Robot).
Despite Complications’ ratings challenges, USA was still considering bringing the show back for a second season. Deadline reports that execs had secured a four-day extension on the cast contracts while they made their final decision. Execs tried to work out an economically feasable deal with Fox 21 TV Studios for a second season but, in the end, it didn’t happen.
The final episode of Complications aired on August 13th.
What do you think? Did you like the Complications TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled? Would you have watched a second season, perhaps on another channel?
USA has some good shows. Covert Affairs lasted 7 years and Royal Pains is fun and also on for a long time.. And now Mr. Robert if that is your thing.
I like the show the actors, the concept. It’s wasn’t unrealistic to me. In this day, with the gang culture and people ( Gretchen) skewing their morals for money even to help a loved one, I can see someone getting in over their head. I would have looked forward to season 2.
I could not Believe my ears! Complications cancelled! WOW! I really enjoyed the show! It made me shout! It was suspenseful and I could not wait to see the next episode. I was waiting for the announcement of the second season! I think it is because two Top hitters are coming Scandal and Murder and USA can’t stand the compaction.
We watched this, but we are not surprised at the csncellation. The story line was stretching too thin, the violence too extreme, and reasonable resolutions too elusive. There was not enough substance to hold interest.
Nooooo! Say it ain’t so! This was my favorite new series. USA please bring Complications back!
I liked the show, but understand the points that those who didn’t like it expressed. I would like to suggest an alternative reason for why so many good new shows are being cancelled; I believe that the Neilsen rating system is flawed, and does not represent a true cross section of the country, but rather of the Midwest section of the country where the majority of their sample households reside; that would explain the high ratings given to reality shows, and the like!
Robert, It isn’t just the Midwest, it’s those over 49 who are completely left out of ANY count.
We watch a lot of tv… more than some younger people but no one seems to care. OH, and yes, we do buy a lot of products that the sponsors sell…. I keep track of who advertises and then what’s cancelled… then I don’t buy their products!
I WILL MISS IT !!
I am acting sick and tried of USA network with them cancelling brand new shows right after one season. They do not gave any thing a chance to build ratings and a fan base. Sooner or later I am going to stop watching USA network. I hope if people stop watching any show or repeats than may be they stop canceling these shows left & right.
Another ridiculous concept getting cancelled and some people are upset. I stopped watching with the second episode.
I made it to maybe the forth before I dropped.
I agree it wasn’t really a concept that coddled last long. It started out good, but before long it was tough to care about anyone
You lasted 1 more episode than I could.
I really liked Complications, and I am sad to see that USA cancelled it. I am going to miss it.
I totally agree with Jonathan and that woman’s character (Gretchen?) was so angry and giving orders to the doc like she was somebody and she was nobody. I watched maybe 3 shows and gave up. This cancellation they got right.
I enjoyed the first episode. However, it became too fantastical and impossible to believe as time went on. I think it’s a merciful death.
I have to say, I’m not surprised. This show started out strong but by the 4th or 5th episode I started to lose interest, simply because it’s not believable. Surgeons and nurses just don’t leave the hospital mid-shift to go chasing bad guys on a vigilante rampage. I grew weary of the multiple poor choices the doc made over and over. The writing is reminiscent of a debut novel; good but needs work and experience to carry out a successful, suspenseful storyline.
OMG! Say it isn’t so!!!!! This was the only good show on USA! PLEASE, reconsider. This was one of those edge of your seat shows that should have lasted for years. It was a great premise with a fantastic cast & terrific writing. What’s wrong w/you people? I’m as upset by this as I was one FOREVER was cancelled. These shows are gone and yet there are stupid shows about people w/too many kids, hoarders, hillbillies, over weight people and little people… and let’s not forget those no talent kardasians and that sex change dad/step dad! From now on I’m… Read more »
I completely agree. There is way too much garbage on TV, and not enough quality stuff.
I completely agree!
Really? Another show I liked is cancelled. They don’t give shows enough of a chance. This show had me wondering what else was going to get this Doc in trouble.
This one and Forever both had me watching every week. Only to be cancelled.
Makes you not want to watch any new shows.
