Tonight, USA Network airs the series finale of White Collar and fans could also be seeing the end of Covert Affairs as well. The latter series hasn’t been renewed for a sixth season yet and the show’s dropped way down in the ratings.
On Covert Affairs, operatives Annie Walker (Piper Perabo) and Auggie Anderson (Chris Gorham) work together in the CIA’s Domestic Protection Division (DPD). The show’s cast also includes Kari Matchett, Peter Gallagher, Hill Harper, and Nicholas Bishop.
The fourth season of Covert Affairs averaged 2.27 million viewers with a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. The current season has been averaging 1.53 million and a 0.3 ratings — a drop of 49% in viewership. It’s USA’s lowest-rated scripted series in the demo.
At this point, it seems likely that USA will renew the show for a sixth and final season, perhaps a short one, to wrap things up. If the cable channel does bring it back, the show may look very different. TV Guide teases that tonight’s finale will feature a death of one character and close calls for some others. This will lead multiple people to making some life-changing decisions.
What do you think? Would you like to see Covert Affairs return for a sixth season or is it time for USA to cancel it?
UPDATE: USA has decided to cancel Covert Affairs after five seasons.
The McQuaid/Walker relationship needs to continue both on the field and romantically. You started something great between the CIA and McQuaids security company and there are not too many shows with a good world spectrum in their plots. It takes we viewers to places we cannot get to. Auggie needs to stay as handler and friend. Tash is perfect for him. There are four couples you can work with now, a great team of eight!
Season 4 was the low with plots painfully disappointing. Season 5 had to wrap up problems created in season 4 and start us back in the right direction. We now have the promise of Joan and Arthur back in authoritative roles (where they should have been all along). Season 5 was good, but after season 4 I personally hesitated to watch season 5. By all accounts some viewers just quit watching. I’m glad I stuck with it. Season 6 has so much promise to get back on track. But don’t end the McQuaid Walker relationship and don’t let Auggie quit.… Read more »
I would like to see it renewed!!! I enjoy the show. Always wanted Annie and Augie to get together again.
Have loved seeing Annie mature..although she got a bit too dark this last season..
The first few years had a lot energy. Late
Y this season and very last season there was on-going bad guy soap opera.
First it was Jay’s dad whatever his name then it was Belenko.
Go back to the one hour high energy with slight subplot from show to show.
Also can Annie stop falling for every guy with big arms going back to Aughie is not happening but what about the MOSSAD guy.
I totally agree with everything you wrote…and yes – what about the Moussad guy?
but I do like ryan too…….Auggie, I think, gets the short end of the stick but he is
the bestest friend anyone could….I don’t follow why anyone really thinks he’s bad?
But the show needs to come back, please.
It’s not so much that Auggie is a bad guy. He really is a good friend and makes a good friend, but not a lover. Too controlling and too much of a womanizer. He’s also a fantastic tech, but not management material. Too explosive and, like the Campbells in earlier seasons, has a tendency to use the CIA for personal ‘projects’. I don’t see that he gets the short end of a stick either. He rarely has to answer for his actions. He’s so coddled by everyone, especially Joan, who apparently can’t say no to him 9 times out of… Read more »
Annie has fallen for 3 guys since Ben. Simon, Ryan and Auggie who pretty much just shrugged when they broke up. ‘Yeah, we should break up because Helen’s always right about this stuff.’ So he blew it and cheated on Annie the minute Helen showed any interest in getting back together with him. 3 guys in 5 seasons, while Auggie has slept with half of DC and cheats on Haley with Tash. Yeah, he’s such a great catch! I’m glad he’s with Natasha, while Ryan, a stand up guy, gets to be with Annie. But if that doesn’t work out,… Read more »
This was a great season, and the show should absolutely be renewed!!!
I loved this season, and I hope the show gets renewed!!
Please don’t cancel it just yet. Another, even if shorter season is needed to really tell the rest of the story. Annie is just now coming to terms with her health and all the physical, emotional trauma since season 3. There is a tenuous and interesting connection between Annie and Belenko that could be really interesting in sesaon 6. They seem to have an unwilling empathy for each other due their respective illnesses. I find this far more interesting than any of the other storyline. And Joan heading a task force is long overdue, especially since Calder did next to… Read more »
Absolutely Renew! Happy Annie is finally starting to re-emrge and the Belenko storyline left a lot of room to propel the spy games into the next season. Love the show.
Do the ratings include those of us who have to watch it on demand due to busy personal schedules?? Please do NOT cancel this terrific show!
PLEASE RENEW!!!
Covert Affairs is a great show and needs to continue. It needs more promotion to bring in viewers. Season 5 wad by far the best yet. Maybe past viewers were not aware of the much better scripts this season.
Please do not cancel this great show.
Renew please
I really hope they create a short final season to wrap things up because the Season 5 ender was the worst episode I have seen during the show’s history. It would be a shame to end such a wonderful series in that way!
Christopher Gorham is that you? 😉
One more season of CA would be nice.
Please renew. Always exciting and live the characters and the love twists.
