Last night, NBC aired the finale of Crossing Lines. The season ended on a cliffhanger that has viewers itching for season two. Will the show be renewed, or will it be cancelled instead?
Crossing Lines follows a former NYPD officer who’s become addicted to morphine and ends up working as a trash collector for a carnival in the Netherlands. The International Criminal Court recognizes his worth and recruits him to help investigate crimes that cross international borders.
The show stars William Fichtner, Marc Lavoine, Gabriella Pession, Tom Wlaschiha, Moon Dailly, Richard Flood, and Donald Sutherland.
The police procedural series debuted June 23rd to a disappointing 0.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.38 million viewers. The first hour ranked a distant third in its timeslot, easily beaten by a rerun of FOX’s Family Guy and the debut of Whodunnit? on ABC.
Though viewership is lower in the summer months, the peaock network could not be happy with these numbers. The later weeks saw them get even worse. Over the course of the season, Crossing Lines has fallen as low as a 0.5 demo rating and 2.51 million viewers.
If NBC were producing the Crossing Lines, there’d be no way that they would make a second season. There’s just not enough ad money to pay for the production.
Thankfully for fans, NBC doesn’t produce the show. Crossing Lines was jointly commissioned by TF1 in France and by Sony for their AXN channels.
NBC merely licenses the series so it costs them much less. Based on the ratings, it’s still extremely unlikely that the peacock network will air a second season.
However, there’s hope that another season will be produced by Sony and TF1. If that happens, another US channel could pick it up or, at the very least, episodes could be released on DVD. We’ll post any updates as they become available.
But, what do you think? Would you like to see a second season of Crossing Lines or should it be cancelled instead? Why didn’t more people watch? If NBC doesn’t want season two, which channel would be a better fit?
Sure hope this show is renewed! Crossing Lines is a terrific show. So enjoy the storyline and the inernational flavor. Really like the characters being developed with each episode. I keep reading that the ratings were not what NBC was hoping for, so I know that means they will cancel this smart, interesting show. Sad state of affairs…NBC needs to get their act together.
I agree a with Melanie above great show keeps you on the edge of your seat.enough of reality shows. If NBS doesn’t renew their loss and hope another network such as USA or and e&a they have great shows such as glades and longmire.nbc should check these out. we hope crossing lines comes back.
S
Please renew the show, I think it is a fabulous show and deserves to be on several seasons.
Love this show! Starting to get really good!
We love this show!! I think the reason that more people didn’t watch it is because of the somewhat complex plot lines. Hope someone picks it up!
It didn’t do very well because NBC didn’t market it at all. It’s a great show with a great cast and I only heard about it because of I looked at Tom Wlaschiha’s IMDB page to see what he was up to now that he’s done with Game of Thrones. Even a little bit of marketing of the season finale would have made it huge. All they would have had to do was drop that Kim Coates was on there. NBC doesn’t have anything invested in it. And I say all that to say that I would love to see… Read more »
This show is a class show with class actors….keep it going it will work better in one more season. NBC seems to get out much to early all the time…After all look what doing to a show that is still number one..Leno. Who should be getting replaced are the fellows at the home office with no balls.
Love this show, best new crime show since Criminal Minds started. Some network should pick up the second season, NBC should and maybe advertise it next season! I would hate to lose this show. Networks don’t give shows enough time to pick up an audience like they used to, especially in summer when less people are watching and shows aren’t on every week because of specials etc.
They should at least make enough episodes to wind up all of the story lines. I will be really upset again with NBC if they cancel this program and leave the viewers hanging. Not every program can be “The Voice” or “America’s Got Talent” as they should well know looking at their season if you don’t add these two programs in. Shame on them. Other than “Crossing Lines” and “Dateline NBC” (sometimes), the only night I even look at NBC is Monday night if I exclude their two big ratings programs.
Sunday at 10 is not a great time for a show to be shown. Nor is summer, so I’m not too surprised of its low ratings. I am generally so busy in summer I don’t have time to watch much of anything. Crossing Lines is one of the two commercial network shows I do tape to watch later. (As I noted, 10PM Sunday is too late for many.) I wouldn’t even consider watching that reality junk they put on TV. Crossing Lines may not be the best show ever, but it is engaging, the characters are flawed (like most people)… Read more »
Love the show!!! Bring it back!!!
We caught this show mid-season and scrambled to find more of it…it is unbelievably good to watch…too bad the networks can’t see it for what it is worth instead of shoving hours of “reality” drivel at us instead…I have seen other good shows cancelled (Chaos) because they put them on in the summer instead of the fall when everyone is clamouring for new stuff…
I agree with all the other comments. It is a great show, good actors, good locations, different than the usual. Of course, except for the talent ones, I am not a fan of reality tv so I really appreciate good dramas. Maybe CBS will pick it up. They are loyal to their shows and don’t mind viewers having to use their brains.
Absolutely. I really like the characters and their developing relationships with each other. The back stories are getting really interesting and those cliffhangers, wow!!! I really hope it comes back.
Great show please don’t cancel it. Its unique and inventive
Not boring like 99% of the shows on NBC come on NBC
wake up step outside of your box renew this show and stop churning out
