We’ve received several emails from readers who love CSI: NY and are worried that it’s been cancelled. Will the show ever return? The simple answer is, “Yes, it’s on hiatus until March 30th.” But, while the TV series hasn’t been canned yet, Gary Sinise and company could certainly be in their final season.
It’s no secret that the ratings have declined over the years and that’s probably one of the reasons that CBS moved it to a Friday night timeslot. It still brings in a respectable 10 million viewers each week but is one of the network’s worst performer in the prized 18-49 demographic, even when you adjust for the Friday timeslot. Year-to-year, the show is also down by 7% in the demo.
At the recent TCA press tour, CBS entertainment president Nina Tassler noted that, though she loves the CSI shows, “Nothing runs forever. How you handle it, the most important thing is how you respect your audience, how you respect your cast, and being incredibly sensitive to how you wrap up any show when it ends a successful run. But we are in those talking stages now (about how to end the CSIs).”
It’s unlikely that CBS will end all three CSI series this year but they could certainly drop one or two of them. Based on the ratings, the New York version would be first in line to be cancelled.
What do you think? Is this the last season of CSI: NY? Should the series be cancelled or renewed for one more season?

No! Don’t cancel CSI New York! It’s excellent, all the characters, but of course, Sinise are great in this show – or any other shows. NY is far better than Miami, which probably appeals to your so-called target audience. If the audience is over 49, it just goes to show you how taste can change in a generation. Don’t forget the demographics are shifting toward baby boomers, and they will be very important critics of tv shows. I already am. DO NOT cancel either NY or the original CSI. We know quality. We demand more than just beautiful women and… Read more »
I love this show more than the other two. if you want to cancel something do it to the Miami show. not New York I love new york more than all of them
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE find another time slot WHEREEVER
My husband and I love the show…. You can’t do better than Gary Sinise, (the man himself, no matter what he does is a “top of the line”), and the story lines are “spot on”. We lose best actor, director, etc. Don’t let those of us who value good stuff vs “reality stuff” suffer.
Why do us in the “older generation” end up in the “cutting room”????? We watch a great deal of TV

I love Friday nights, too…leave it alone.
THIS SHOW IS FAR BETTER WRITTEN AND DONE THAN CSI:MIAMI.
I love CSI: NY. It is my favorite show. It would be a mistake to cancel it. There would be no way to find a better replacement for this show……

We were so surprised that CSI New York was not on Friday nite. Went to this site to see what was happening and, again, were surprised that you would think to cancel this program. Have seen Gifted Man and we are not impressed. If you feel the need to cancel one of the CSI’s, then our choice would be Miami. The additions of Sela Ward to NY and Ted Danson to the original were good choices and have worked to make both of them better. Can’t believe that you would opt to discontinue the entire series.
I was going to post a comment supporting CSI NY and I see that you have summed up my sentiments exactly as I would have wanted to say them.
I would hate to see CSI NY be cancelled. I was very disappointed to see that it was not on Friday night. I was devoted to CSI until Grissim left and I was never a fan of CSI Miami because I’m not a fan of him….BUT I LOVE GARY SINISE. Friday nights has been one of our favorite TV nights. CSI NY, Gifted Man, and Blue Bloods….can’t get much better than that. PLEASE DON’T TOUCH THIS NIGHT!!
I grew up in New York and this series is true to the City. The acting is very good. New Yorkers seem genuine articles.
I only have three favorite programs and this is one of them.
I would be devastated without CSI New York.
Forty odd years ago moving Star Trek to Friday night killed it, but it had a different demographic. It kills me that peole lile CSI: Miami more.
We both strongly support CSI NY: don’t cancel it!. We are well over the magic 49 age, but seniors are the fastest growing segment of the population. You might want to remember that we are all alive, consumers and watch a LOT of TV.
I love CSI-NY and CSI-MIAMI. I would hate to see either show end.
On the other hand, since the 2 main characters on CSI have left the show, and Ted Danson has joined it, I have no interest in watching that one ever again. Nothing against Ted, but he just doesn’t fit in.
If you must cancel a CSI series take CSI Miami away, it’s the only one that cannot hold your interest. Please do not take CSI NY off, it’s real and moving it to Friday made for the only day of the week worth watching.
