We’ve received several emails from readers who love CSI: NY and are worried that it’s been cancelled. Will the show ever return? The simple answer is, “Yes, it’s on hiatus until March 30th.” But, while the TV series hasn’t been canned yet, Gary Sinise and company could certainly be in their final season.
It’s no secret that the ratings have declined over the years and that’s probably one of the reasons that CBS moved it to a Friday night timeslot. It still brings in a respectable 10 million viewers each week but is one of the network’s worst performer in the prized 18-49 demographic, even when you adjust for the Friday timeslot. Year-to-year, the show is also down by 7% in the demo.
At the recent TCA press tour, CBS entertainment president Nina Tassler noted that, though she loves the CSI shows, “Nothing runs forever. How you handle it, the most important thing is how you respect your audience, how you respect your cast, and being incredibly sensitive to how you wrap up any show when it ends a successful run. But we are in those talking stages now (about how to end the CSIs).”
It’s unlikely that CBS will end all three CSI series this year but they could certainly drop one or two of them. Based on the ratings, the New York version would be first in line to be cancelled.
What do you think? Is this the last season of CSI: NY? Should the series be cancelled or renewed for one more season?

I am at a loss to understand why CBS would make a stupid decision to cancel CSI NY. The time slot it was put in (Fiday night) is not a fair way to rate if the show is doing well. People usually are not home on Friday night. I am surprised that CBS would move a good show to Friday nite when the rating are guaranteed to be low. IF CBS can air a show like “Under Cover Boss” which is the worst show on the network , other than the reality shows, indicates that the programing crew knows nothing… Read more »
CSINY is the best one of the three!
Keep it. I love the CSI’s. They are among the most intelligent shows on television today. Just knowing that has probably condemned it to death. Knowing the mentality of programming departments they are probably trying to develop another Jersey Shore…and the bemoaning the loss of viewers to cable channels with shows that challenge the mind…including reruns of the entire CSI franchise
I enjoy csi NY, it’s more interesting than the others. It’s also much better than other mess on t.v these days. Why all the reality show, have all the good writers lost their touch?
I think Friday is a good night csi NY there are some of us staying in and watching t.v.
Saturday night needs some help, there’s nothing worth watching on any stations.
Please don’t cancel CSI NY. Sela Ward’s character Jo Danville is still pretty new to the show and should run the show and she’s been on the show longer!
I hope they do not cancel CSI NY. It is my favorite of the 3. I think bringing Sela Ward in has really helped the show (I did not care for Maria at all) and Gary Sinise is FABULOUS. This whole cast works quite well together and the story lines are great! And, I am so sick of hearing about the coveted 18-49 demographic! Do the networks think they are the only ones who purchase things? There are a whole lot of 50+ people out here and we are the main ones watching TV. I love the crime dramas and… Read more »
Please don’t cancel, Eddie Cahill is great. Need to see him weekly!!
Get rid of CSI Miami with its lousy acting. No tthis one
CSI NY is the best CSI show! If you are to can one, get rid of CSI Miami!
CSI:NY is my favorite. Love the cast they have now. There are only about 5 shows I watch anymore and CS:NY is one of them.
Please don’t cut CSI New York. If you have to cut something, cut CSI Miami. I must say I haven’t watched it in a while because Horatio had to be a HERO and nancyclayhog too much camera time and there was too little of the fascinating work done in the lab. I am originally from Miami and would have loved to see a a show based there but Horatio just turned me off completely.
I love ALL of the CSI shows. CSI NY and CSI Miami especially. Please do not cancel them!!
I am sorry that the ratings have taken a drop and even on Fridays there are some that do watch the show. We all can’t be part of the judging age bracket the producers judge shows by and yes, I would miss this show as well as the other two. I do not like all the reality shows and comedies, but prefer crime and mysteries and think there is a large group of watchers who also do and these shows should not be ruined by poor time slots and only selected age brackets.
CSI NY is the best! CBS quit messing with it’s time slot
What do they plan to replace it with another reality show. Maybe that is why I spend the time I watch TV on cable. I tend to want to watch something that has some intelligence to it, and CSI NY gives me that. It is well acted and written.
