We’ve received several emails from readers who love CSI: NY and are worried that it’s been cancelled. Will the show ever return? The simple answer is, “Yes, it’s on hiatus until March 30th.” But, while the TV series hasn’t been canned yet, Gary Sinise and company could certainly be in their final season.
It’s no secret that the ratings have declined over the years and that’s probably one of the reasons that CBS moved it to a Friday night timeslot. It still brings in a respectable 10 million viewers each week but is one of the network’s worst performer in the prized 18-49 demographic, even when you adjust for the Friday timeslot. Year-to-year, the show is also down by 7% in the demo.
At the recent TCA press tour, CBS entertainment president Nina Tassler noted that, though she loves the CSI shows, “Nothing runs forever. How you handle it, the most important thing is how you respect your audience, how you respect your cast, and being incredibly sensitive to how you wrap up any show when it ends a successful run. But we are in those talking stages now (about how to end the CSIs).”
It’s unlikely that CBS will end all three CSI series this year but they could certainly drop one or two of them. Based on the ratings, the New York version would be first in line to be cancelled.
What do you think? Is this the last season of CSI: NY? Should the series be cancelled or renewed for one more season?

I understand that TV networks and advertisers believe the 18-49 year old demographic is sacred because they have the most “disposable income”, but I’d be willing to bet that a large number of the lower end of that group gets at least a part of their income from the older generation i.e. their parents and/or grandparents. I’d place another bet that the majority of them are NOT in front of their TV sets on a Friday night. Besides, between Tivos and DVRs, how can an accurate account of who actually watches a program be made? I agree that if a… Read more »
Well here we go again. First the stupid people at CBS tried to change Criminal Minds and do away with two of its cast members. Now you want to sabatoge another great program. Shame on you CBS. Why don’t you listen to the people who watch these show and leave well enough alone. Keep this up and CBS will be the most hated network in the US instead of the best. CSI:NY is great the way it is. So stop all this nonsense and keep airing it. IF you want to improve CBS do away with the stupid sitcoms.
Of the 3 CSI programs, I think CSI NY is the best, and it SHOULD NOT be cancelled.
I agree with some of the comments I have read to a degree. I really don’t want to see any of the CSI shows cancelled. The people who watch tv should what stay & what goes not one demograhic group. I watch none of the reality shows but year after year they return. Why can’t you see that the group you are trying to reach don’t watch much tv. I know when I was in that age group I didn’t. Thank goodness their is cable these days. I can always switch the change until I find something. You know TNT… Read more »

Please keep this show as all the silly sitcoms are an insult to my intelligence. This is a great show.
CSI is a great show and should be kept on. Get rid of CSI Miami
CSI: NY is the very best of the three shows. If one must go then let it be the original CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. Since William Peterson left they haven’t been able to nail down a good main star and now they have let Marg Helgenberg get away as well. The CSI shows represent ore reality than shows like Survivor and Wipeout. Let’s keep it real and keep the CSI shows.
i agree with joyce&connie they said it all. theonly time that i watch cbs is when ncis is own or one of the csis.
Why would CBS cancel the best of the CSI shows. If any of the shows should be moved or cancelled they should start with CSI Miami. CSI NY is clearly a better show and the acting is far superior to CSI Miami.
If you want to cancel a CSI show cancel Miami. That show doesn’t do much for me. I love the cast of CSI: NY and the series. Why don’t you ask the viewers in an older age group as they are the ones watching TV on Friday night not a younger group that is usually not home on Friday nights anyway. As far as A Gifted Man goes that is a very poor replacement for CSI: NY.
Your network is now cancelling another of our favorite shows (CSI NY), leaving about six a week left. Fortunatly ther are several other networks that I can watch after 8:00 PM so don’t worry about disappointing me. The loss of Slashpoint also hurt, but I can get it on ION regularly. Since that is a Canadian program, I may be able to get it anyway, an advantage of living near the edge of Lake Ontario.

All of the CSIs are GREAT programs! I am so tired of the networks not listening to the people who really watch TV. This 18 to 49 demographic is really lame. I am 55 years old and I know when I was 18 to 49, I was ANYWHERE BUT AT HOME WATCHING TV!!!!! DUH! That age group is out at a party, or on a date, or at the movies, etc. We are the ones at home who can no longer afford to do those things (thanks to this great life we live in today) or we have given what… Read more »
