We’ve received several emails from readers who love CSI: NY and are worried that it’s been cancelled. Will the show ever return? The simple answer is, “Yes, it’s on hiatus until March 30th.” But, while the TV series hasn’t been canned yet, Gary Sinise and company could certainly be in their final season.
It’s no secret that the ratings have declined over the years and that’s probably one of the reasons that CBS moved it to a Friday night timeslot. It still brings in a respectable 10 million viewers each week but is one of the network’s worst performer in the prized 18-49 demographic, even when you adjust for the Friday timeslot. Year-to-year, the show is also down by 7% in the demo.
At the recent TCA press tour, CBS entertainment president Nina Tassler noted that, though she loves the CSI shows, “Nothing runs forever. How you handle it, the most important thing is how you respect your audience, how you respect your cast, and being incredibly sensitive to how you wrap up any show when it ends a successful run. But we are in those talking stages now (about how to end the CSIs).”
It’s unlikely that CBS will end all three CSI series this year but they could certainly drop one or two of them. Based on the ratings, the New York version would be first in line to be cancelled.
What do you think? Is this the last season of CSI: NY? Should the series be cancelled or renewed for one more season?

I’m sadden to think they may cacel CSI-NY it is the least violent ,sex crazed of the three and there is too much of that in tv today.
My wife and I watch CSI NY regularly and we both feel that it’s one of the better crime dramas on Network Television. Ten million viewers seems like a respectable number, but what do we know, right, we are just the viewers. It seems to us that CBS should not cancel this series and even though CBS doesn’t give a _____ about what viewers may think, some explanation that the series will vacation mode or filming mode until sometime in the future would help. I know nothing goes on forever especially in the ratings world of television; however, certainly CBS… Read more »
with all the crap on tv , reality shows(?) etc, it would be a shame to drop a great show like this.
What are you thinking? Every time there is good show on you cancel it. I have quit watching any of your news because of one-sidedness . Now I have to quit your channel all together because your choices are out of reason!
I agree with the above 3 comments 100%. This is a great show and if any of the 3 are cancelled I would not miss Las Vegas much.CBS used to be the only network we watched but the shows have gotten so bad(especially Mon night “comedies” )that we are now watching ME TV mainly.I don’t have to have filth come into my house and that’s about all there is now.
there is NO reson to canceal c.s.i. new york it is one good shows c.b. s. has on the air
Please please do not cancel this show. There’s almost nothing to watch on TV these days that isn’t some stupid reality show.
csi miami should go before csi n.y. it is boring & poorly acted. has been on long enough. please don’t take csin.y. this is very enjoyable & made fri. nites a total cbs nite.
I was VERY upset when I couldn’t find CSI NY Friday night. It is my favorite of the three. More down to earth and realistic than the other two, which incorporate too many beautiful show people instead of ordinary people. Gary Sinise puts so much humanity into his character, he is very believable.
Please don’t kill this show!!!!!!!!!
One of the better drama series on TV, especially with all this reality show garbage! They shouldn’t cancel any of the CSI series …
I like ALL of the CSIs! But, CSI NY is not the only great TV program that is in danger of being cancelled. Networks are not very intelligent. When they premier a new program, it is often going up against a program that already has a following. Instead of giving it a chance for people to figure out a way to watch it (TIVO, DVR, etc.), they go by an out dated system of getting the ratings (Nielson rating system – old school). There has to be a way to get the rating system fixed. They could repeat the new… Read more »
Diann – you are so right! CBS – With all the absolute junk there is on TV these days it is difficult to find a program that is educational, interesting, AND not filled with stupidity – re–the “reality” shows, that are about as real as Santa Claus. CBS – don’t cancel the CSI’s. Cancel instead ALL of those stupid, vapid, insipid, absolutely idiot born and bred “reality” shows – and give the whole US some TV worth watching. With all the technology available to us – pulling up decent OLD programs, renting, MULTIPLE NETWORKS TO CHOOSE FROM – you would… Read more »
Please do not cancel CSI:NY!! I look forward to watching a very good show any night of the week. There are so few good shows on tv these days; please keep this one!
I am sorry CBS is thinking of canceling CSI-NY. I have looked forward to every Friday night watching The Gifted Man followed by CSI-NY. Of all the CSI programming, I have followed CSI-NY the longest. Gary and Sela are great. Please reconsider your thoughts, CBS.
You already cancelled the best new cop show “Prime Suspect”. Now your considering cancelling the best of the three CSI’S? I can’t believe it. Are you all crazy?
CSI -NY is the best out of the three. There is no way they should cancel that one first.
