Here we go again. Tonight, CBS airs the ninth season finale of CSI: NY. Will the long-running show be cancelled so that it ends up also being the series finale as well?
As with any show, the network has to look at the costs to produce CSI: NY versus the revenue it generates. CSI: NY has been on the air for nearly 200 episodes and so the costs have risen over the years. Unfortunately, the ratings haven’t gone up as well.
In season seven, CSI: NY averaged a 1.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.03 million total viewers. Last season, the show averaged a 1.6 demo rating with 9.94 million. This year, it’s averaged a 1.4 rating with 9.68 million viewers.
Is it worthwhile for the network to keep producing more episodes or should they try something new? They haven’t had any luck launching new dramas on Friday nights — Made in Jersey and A Gifted Man, for example — so trying to replace CSI: NY might be a tricky proposition.
As Gary Sinise recently told Larry King regarding the ninth season renewal, “It was a 50-50 toss-up. We have a good solid show but I know from a business perspective what they’re thinking about, looking at. Has our show run its course? Can they find a new show that’s cheaper to make than ours that can do as well? They have to take a lot into account but we’re a solid show.”
If CSI: NY does return it will be without one castmember. Hill Harper, who’s played Sheldon Hawkes since the show began, is leaving. He’s becoming a series regular on USA’s Covert Affairs drama starting with season four.
What do you think? Has CSI: NY run its course? Should CBS cancel it and replace it with an existing drama or something new? Would you like to see it come back for a 10th year?
I believe that CSI:NY should be renewed for next year, because I believe that it is one of the best shows on TV right now. The cast that has been put together for it is a well balanced group that works like a real team in real life. I will miss Hawkes he made a very believable ME in the show. So please bring the show back next year. I would also like to see how the to see a conclusion to the to love stories going on.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE,dont cancel,i have watched this show since the beginning & its my favorite!! I dont think the network could even remotely come close to a drama like this one.
Please leave CSI New York on! I agree with “Raffy” (above) – there are too many loose strings.
I already miss CSI NY. We’ve been looking for it everywhere. We hate reality shows and the good solid drama series like CSI NY are sadly lacking. We don’t always catch it on Friday night because it conflicts with family things but we always catch it on On Demand. Please please don’t cancel it.
I absolutely love that show. Please don’t cancel. I look forward to Friday nights to watch it. There is nothing on when you get older that we are interested in. Please consider that and not the money.
No please don’t cancel CSI NY. We all enjoy the CSI’s.
I wish they would have left CSI Miami but all we get now is re runs. CSI NY is some place to go instead of all them dang reality shows. Reality shows are getting way out of hand.
LEAVE CSI NY so we can get our weekly fix.
Please renew CSI NY Little by little all the great dramas are being taken off by these mindless Sitcoms and reality shows. We have become a bunch of voyeurs.
These shows are stupid and boring. For the most part are nasty. It shows the worst part of people.
on the other hand a show like CSI NY has a story line. Great writers and great actors. Thats something to watch…
I have been a fan since the show started……. Its the best of the CSI shows.
WHy waste more money on theses stupid shows…….. Leave well enough alone… Please
The show is a solid show with a real story line. I am so sick of reality shows . They seem to get worse all the time. Isnt the world screwed up enough without watching all the screwed up prople on these shows.
The acting is the best…… Please leave it on.
I just love the show and have been watching it ever since it started……
leave csi ny you took miami off
Leave it on. I enjoy it and the cast members are great
Please leave this show on, it is so much better than Crime Scene Investigation.
I am from Holland and I bought all the dvd from this series.
I love the stories, love the character especially Gary Sinise, who is so charming and good in what he does.
It would be sad to see such a fantastic serie vanish.
Please leave the show on. The cast is wonderful; the writing is great; and an extra reason: It’s not a reality show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bring it back for at least one more season. It would be a pity to leave all the pending storylines hanging; like Mac & Christine, and Flack & Lovato.
Leave it on. We enjoy it and the cast.
I truly disagree with canceling CSI NY. This is one of the best television shows left on air. I was devastate when they cancel ed CSI Miami. I don’t believe that they will ever find a show that would out rate them honestly.
