Of the five networks, The CW has the fewest hours of primetime to fill but they’re not finding it any easier to find hits. Most of their returning shows are way down year-to-year and some of their new series are struggling. Which will be cancelled or renewed? Stay tuned!
CW shows this season (so far): The 100, America’s Next Top Model, Arrow, Backpackers, Beauty and the Beast, The Carrie Diaries, Famous in 12, Hart of Dixie, Masters of Illusion, Nikita, The Originals, Penn & Teller: Fool Us, Reign, Seed, Supernatural, The Tomorrow People, The Vampire Diaries, and Whose Line Is It Anyway?.
How does The CW decide what to cancel or renew? They look at a lot of different factors but the ratings play an important role. The higher the ratings, the better chance a show has of surviving. Here’s how the network’s shows are doing so far:
Check other networks’ rankings: ABC | CBS | FOX | NBC | ABC Family | TNT
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated charts, please try reloading the page. You can also see them here and here.
A couple of notes about these charts:
These figures are updated automatically as new ratings are released. The averages are based on the final national numbers (live plus same day viewing), unless marked with an asterisk (*). For technical reasons, I have to resort them manually so feel free to let me know if I missed something.
Keep in mind that the demo numbers are typically what’s most important to advertisers. Therefore, that’s how the networks measure success. Advertisers pay more for ad time on a show that has a higher demo rating. Because older viewers don’t count? No, it’s because younger viewers watch less traditional TV and are therefore supposedly harder to reach.
Demo numbers are typically reported using the 10ths decimal place (2.4, for example). In the averages, I’m using an extra decimal for easier ranking.
The networks take into account when shows air on Fridays or Saturday, nights when TV viewership is lower.
What do you think? Which shows are you rooting for? Which one isn’t as big a hit as you thought? Are you hoping any series will get cancelled to make room for something else?
please renew hart of dixie, i absolutely love that show
i think they should renew hart of dixie or show it in another day
I am a senior that is a loyal fan of the show Star-Crossed. This poor show does not have a chance of attracting a large fan base…it has had to compete with News Hour, the Winter Olympics, Dancing with the Stars, Monday night sports and miscellaneous other top of the heap programming…under the circumstances I think that it has attracted a very loyal audience. I truly do hope that the show is not cancelled.
I personally enjoy hart of Dixie. I hope they don’t cancel it.
I really enjoy reign. I got hooked so easily I ended up watching all of the then 17 episodes in two days! It’s very entertaining and I hope it gets renewed for a third season after the second!
I absolutely love Beauty and the Beast, and it has some of the lowest ratings but I hope it gets renewed.
I am wishing that they keep BATB. I love that show! On the event that they decide to cancel it, I hope that they have a proper ending to it and not leave the fans guessing!!
Star-Crossed definitely deserves to be renewed.
I think that Star Crossed is a refreshing, compelling new show with a great storyline. Originally it started slow but I have seen it develop quite nicely and look forward to each new episode. It is also nice to see something besides vampires, werewolves and zombies.
BATB should be renewed I do agree season 2 was a bit off but the storyline is great so please let vincat stay
Tomorrow People, Star-Crossed, and Reign my absolute favorites. Could not get into Hart of Dixie or The Originals. The wardrobe on Reign is Awesome.
In my opinion it should be like this: The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, Arrow, Supernatural and Reign already got renewed so it leaves us with theese shows; The 100, The Tomorrow People, Star-Crossed, Hart of Dixie, The Carrie Diaries and Beauty and the Beast. I say renew The 100, Star-Crossed and Hart of Dixie and cancel The Carrie Diaries and The Tomorrow People. I am a fan of The Tomorrow People but the ratings are like a rollercoaster and because of this its not so trustable to renew it for another season. I think renewing The 100 is a really… Read more »
CW should have left it on Monday night — moving it after being off for a few weeks was not a smart move. Also Many people will watch HOD on pc’s because they work or go out on Friday.
It is a good show, if cw cancels it I wish someone else picks it up. But no, they will shove another stupid reality show at us. CW should dump any reality waste show and carrie diaries.
I like the Tomorrow People, but I feel like they would stretch the story thin with even a 2nd season. I kinda hope it ends soon.
I love supernatural and several other shows. However, like always I wish for REAPER TO BE BROUGHT BACK. I need to know how it ends. It will be extremely popular too. People love shows with supernatural elements in them.
The rating was adjusted last week and under a million viewers. Stop giving Hart of Dixie points.
Not sure what you’re talking about. These season averages are accurate.
They are not when you choose to not do it right! You know HOD was low rating Friday night when you post this! Other sites have it right you do not! Stop trying to save this show! It was under a million viewers and that about 887 viewers not 887 million viewers. CW have not said either way that its returning the show or cancelling it. You could be honest about the show and others. This is not a update are what happen Friday with the show. Why people afraid to say its a low -rated show and bad mouth… Read more »
Viewership for last Friday’s episode was 810,000 viewers according to the fast affiliates (which can also be displayed as 0.81 million). The final ratings should be released later today. The numbers on this page are the averages for the 18 episodes of Hart of Dixie that have aired so far this season. The individual episode ratings can be found here: http://wp.me/pcisc-7Sm
Lois calm down.Youre coming across very rude.Second, this site isn’t trying to save HoD-this site has no say in renewals/cancellation .CW will announce on May 15 Wheather or not HoD -and other bubble shows like Carrie,Star Crossed,The 100,BatB -are renewed or not.Though it’ll be spoiled and leaked before then. This site will report the cancellations/renewals as they are announced. The reason CW hasnt said Wheather or not HoD is renewed or cancelled yet is cause its a bubble show. But HoD is safe for syndication.Blame CW ,not this site ,for not sayingif HoD will be cancelled or renewed.
