It’s a dark time for fans of Dark Matter. Deadline reports Syfy has cancelled the TV show after three seasons.
The sci-fi drama follows the crew of a derelict spaceship who awake with no memory and who must work together to survive a threatening voyage charged with vengeance, betrayal, and plenty of secrets. The cast includes Marc Bendavid, Melissa O’Neil, Anthony Lemke, Alex Mallari Jr, Jodelle Ferland, Roger Cross, and Zoie Palmer.
Ratings for Dark Matter have been low for some time. Overall, season three averaged a .15 rating in the 18-49 demo and only 614,000 viewers, making it one of Syfy‘s lower-rated TV shows for the 2016-2017 season.
On his blog, co-creator Joseph Mallozzi confirmed the show’s cancellation and thanked the fans, cast, and crew:
It is with great sadness that I confirm the news. Syfy has cancelled Dark Matter after three seasons.
To say that I’m incredibly disappointed would be an understatement.
I’ll save my comments and field your questions in a future blog entry. For today, I just want to extend a heartfelt thanks to my amazing crew, my wonderful cast, and to all of you, our incredible fans.
You all deserved better.”
What do you think? Are you a fan of Dark Matter? Do you think Syfy should’ve renewed the series?
Someone needs to get a clue from the audience. This is the best show on any network. I don’t know how they arrived at cancelling this show, but someone should ask the viewers the people that keep you in business. Try cancelling your job, that would be a good decision.
Can’t believe that its been cancelled. I will NOT start another series on SyFI channel. I am very sad to see this.
Best show on syfy channel by a mile. How can they even think about cancelling it, disgraceful and puts me off getting into another syfy series if they are not even wiling t finish what they start.
I am so disappointed, I absolutely loved the show.
Farscape
Firefly
Stargate: Universe
And now Dark Matter
I’m seeing a trend where some of the very best shows are cancelled.
Loved it. VERY disappointed
It was a much better show than magicians or the current killjoys. Another firefly debacle.
It’s not the show that is weak, it’s the so call program execs who are clueless. Their shotgun approach seems to be based on put a hundred shows on in a 20 show market and hope for the best. Find some better program directors and actually developed a show.
when fun just started they cancelled.. iI WANT TO KNOW WHO DRIVES BLACK SHIPS!
I was looking forward to season 4, at least they could have provided some closure and ended it better so the fans could say goodbye…. come on Syfy, if you have to cancel you could have made a better exit for Dark Matter.
-sad fan
Exactly!!
This show gets better every episode! How are we going to find out what’s really going on with the Androids?! I loved going back to 2017! Please reconsider!
Dark Matter gets better every episode! I especially loved when they went back to 2017! Please reconsider keeping this show!!!!!
I get so pissed when I give my time to a show come to love it and they just rip the rug right out from under u. I find it harder and harder to watch any shows any more if they plan to end a show they should show more respect to their viewer for their loyalty at least do a movie or hour long show or half season to give us closer. I stopped watching new shows on all the other channels guess ill have to stop doing the same for syfy so disappointing
I,m 52 years old. So if you think older fans were not watching your wrong. I loved the show. You can,t just end it like that, what do you need really two more episodes. COME ON MAN. You could have at least gave us that thanks alot. Next time you start something and your not going to finish it please let me know so i don,t invest my time into it. Thanks for nothing.
Really enjoyed this show. Once again Syfy has disappointed me another show cancellation without closure. Every time I get into a show this is what happens. I had quit watching Syfy for awhile because of their choice in programming, but with Dark Matter, Killjoys, and the Expanse I came back. Now we will see.
