With Revolution taking a break, NBC decided to try a new Monday night drama, Deception. Has it been a ratings success for the network or will it end up being cancelled like so many of their other Monday night dramas?
On Deception, a wealthy party girl has been mysteriously murdered. Her childhood friend, now a San Francisco narcotics detective, is convinced by her former partner to go undercover into the wealthy world she thought she’d left behind. The cast includes Laz Alonso, Meagan Good, Victor Garber, Katherine LaNasa, Tate Donovan, Wes Brown, and Ella Rae Peck.
The series debuted in January to a 2.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.66 million total viewers. Those were hardly impressive numbers and were less than half of what Revolution’s premiere drew a few months earlier. Year-to-year however, it was a big improvement over the ratings NBC was getting for Rock Center with Brian Williams.
In week two, Deception’s ratings dropped more than 20% to a 1.6 demo rating and 4.14 million. That was not positive — and the ratings kept falling. As we now near the end of Deception’s 11 episode run, the ratings seem to have stabilized at a 1.1 demo rating with about 3.3 million viewers.
Those numbers are terrible and certainly there’s no ratings justification for NBC to renew Deception for a second season. They cancelled shows like Chase and The Playboy Club and they had better numbers than Deception.
On the positive side, at least NBC aired all of the episodes. Unfortunately, viewers are unlikely to ever get their storyline questions answered.
But, what do you think? Should NBC stick with Deception and give it another shot next year or should they cancel it instead? Why do you think it didn’t catch on with a bigger audience?
I enjoy watching Deception. Sometimes the story line just doesn’t make sense!
Too many giveaways. I’ve had so many questions while watching it and feel the
writer needs to be replaced if another season will be added. Maybe it should be
cancelled!!
Awesome watch. Should continue. I looked forward to Mondays
Please renew! My son and I watched it every Monday night. It was great to have a quality show that we could enjoy together. It got better and better as the season went on. So many questions still need to be answered-please give it another season.
Please don’t cancel. Have been watching every Monday nights.Don’t like Revolution .Finally a series that makes sense. Wants more.
That was really a crummy way to leave an audience hanging. Inconsiderate move for NBC. I would like to see Deception renewed or at least a decent finale.
I hope it gets renewed for a second season. Just watched the end and it was a cliffhanger. And if it gets cancelled I want a some cable channel to pick it up.
I’ve enjoyed watching Deception. What will happen to the dirty cop? What will happen to Mia? Please don’t cancel.
I loved deception! Just watched the finale and I can’t believe that’s a we get?! Nothing was really answered!
My son and I enjoy this show and look forward to future episodes.Im not sure what Nbc is or isnt doing to get ratings for this show, but this is so much better than Reality tv showsthat seems to be taking over. Its so good to see Real actors and actresses displaying their talents versus ppl exposing their dirty laundry on television. It would be really great to see this show next season, pretty please 😉
Please do not cancel Deception! This has become my favorite show! It brought me back to NBC. I hadn’t watched much during prime time on NBC for quite awhile and now I never miss Deception. I just watched the SEASON finale and I’m disappointed because I’m not ready for the season finale. Please don’t let it be the series finale!! I love that show! I’ll stop watching NBC all together if they cancel Deception!
WHAT!!??!!??!?!?! they better not cancel it this show is SOOOO GOOOD!!!!!!!!!
I don’t believe what I am reading this show is great I set my television up to tape this show while I’m watching just in case I miss something. My fiancé also love this show we use to be WWE fans and don’t get me wrong we still are but Deception has stolen our Monday nights attention. At least bring it on for one more season so we can see what happen to Vivian and what’s going on with Meia. I will spread the word myself please bring out back on
There should deffinately be a second season! During the time this season aired there was many other shows on(the bachelor, biggest loser, etc), which is probably why not many people wanted to get into this one because it would be one more show they would have to follow(dvr).
I certainly love it though and im dying to find out what happens to Robert.
Also if julian finds out the truth about johanna being a cop and where that leads them!
I watched the whole series, thought it was better than anything else on. Made sure I was home to watch the finale because I wanted to know what happened. Was disappointed to find out it wasn’t the end at all. If this is cancelled I’ll never watch another series on NBC.
I have never seen a show like this! I can’t wait to see the next season! PLEASE renew another season!!!! I look forward to watching this show every Monday night.
