President Kirkman’s term is over. Last year, ABC cancelled the Designated Survivor TV show after two low-rated seasons. Netflix picked up the series for a third season but has now decided not to order a fourth season.
A political thriller, Designated Survivor stars Kiefer Sutherland, Natascha McElhone, Adan Canto, LaMonica Garrett, Kal Penn, Maggie Q, Malik Yoba, Paulo Costanzo, Zoe McLellan, Ben Lawson, Tanner Buchanan, and Mckenna Grace. The conspiracy drama series centers on Tom Kirkman (Sutherland). After an attack on Capitol Hill wipes out the line of succession, this HUD Secretary becomes President of the United States.
Sutherland recently said that he was doubtful that a fourth season would happen. He explained, “I don’t think series four is going to happen. We had an amazing experience with Netflix, and a kind of freedom that was wonderful – but the reality is, because the contracts were so complicated and different from network television to Netflix etc, they didn’t book a lot of the actors that were on the show, and they took other jobs, and I don’t blame them for a second for that.”
Today, Netflix made the cancellation official with a statement: “We are proud to have offered fans a third season of Designated Survivor, and will continue to carry all three seasons for years to come. We’re especially thankful to star and executive producer Kiefer Sutherland, who brought passion, dedication and an unforgettable performance as President Kirkman. We’re also grateful to showrunner/executive producer Neal Baer for his guiding vision and steady hand, creator/executive producer David Guggenheim and EPs Mark Gordon, Suzan Bymel, Simon Kinberg, Aditya Sood and Peter Noah along with the cast and crew who crafted a compelling and satisfying final season.”

What do you think? Did you enjoy the Designated Survivor TV show? Did you like or dislike the “adult” language in season three? Are you sorry that there won’t be a fourth season on Netflix?
Totally enjoyed this quality show. Hate that there are no more coming.
I think that’s terrible! You keep canceling all the good shows. So what a season is slow give it a chance people watch movies after word of
Mouth
For me this was a pleasant way to learn about US politics, too bad it ended, I could do with some more education at this level.
Terrific Series, its a great pity that Season 4 has been abandoned. It was a great example of how the President of the USA is expected to behave. Hopefully this decision will be re-examined in the future
I didn’t know until just now that Netflix aired a 3rd season. Going to go take a look shortly. But, loved seasons 1 and 2.
I absolutely loved season 1 and 2, and 3 was a good season, except for the f-bomb every other sentence. That really brought the level of the show down. I’m not all that offended by “colorful” language when it has a real need to be expressed. Very few of the expletives that were uttered made any difference to the story, and actually started to tarnish the characters. I would have voted for Tom Kirkman. I could believe that he was a loving husband, family man, and had great character. The 3rd Season introduced several new trends with a gay couple,… Read more »
Please bring it back that is the best series ever designated Survivor Kiefer Sutherland played the best president I’ve ever seen played in a shell he needs to come back in due season 45678 whatever but let’s get out of season for going please bring him back bring the show back
Hate the show was cancelled. Came late to the party, but loved the show.
Seasons 1 & 2 were amazing, it’s a shame that they couldn’t continue on from there with the storyline’s. They would of been better off cancelling the show than doing season 3 was terribly disappointing.
I loved the first two seasons and hated the third. I didn’t need to hear all the cuss words, see the President sitting on the toilet. The third season became very political. No more suspense and drama, just liberal agenda being shoved down our throats.
We loved the show and are sad that it has been cancelled. However, the adult language and sex scenes were off putting and not needed. I do not want to see pornography in an otherwise excellent production.
