Charlie Sheen and CBS’ Two and a Half Men have played havoc with the other network’s schedules for years. The sitcom is one of the top-rated shows on television and sometimes reruns outperform the competition. Now, Sheen is helping ABC for a change.
ABC News has landed an exclusive interview with the troubled actor and will air it on Tuesday night on a special edition of 20/20. The special edition will no doubt get huge ratings.
To make room for the interview, ABC has once again pre-empted Detroit 1-8-7, the network’s lowest-rated scripted series. From a ratings standpoint, just about anything they can put in that timeslot will perform as well or better than Detroit 1-8-7. Last week’s special edition of Primetime garnered a 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.14 million viewers. That’s certainly not a great performance but it is 14% better than the previous episode of Detroit 1-8-7.
As frustrating as this may be to fans of the crime drama, ABC isn’t likely to stop pre-empting it. On the positive side, Detroit 1-8-7 remains on next week’s schedule, for now at least. At this point, the show is all but cancelled and the network is essentially burning off the remaining episodes. There are three episodes left in this season and there’s no way that its coming back for season two.
What do you think? Will ABC get around to airing the three remaining episodes of Detroit 1-8-7?
Hasn’t EVERYONE had enough of Charlie Sheen and his dumbass “winning” catchphrase.
Come on, D-187 is a good cop show…let’s hear from more fans!!
ABC (and the other three networks) are just becoming testing grounds for all the good story-driven dramas with cable TV being the benefactors. Just start the negotiations now with TNT, USA or one of the other cable networks so that they can get next seasons promos
started. Pretty soon networks will have to either run 24 news or shutdown completely. Reality TV is like fast food, it’s killing the networks.
My family and I love this show. I wish ABC would give it a chance and stop pre-empting it. I should just stop watching ABC shows .I can’t believe they would put charlie the loser sheen over a good show with outstanding talent like on Detroit 187. shame on you ABC.
For a pathetic piece of garbage like Charlie Sheen/ You gotta be kidding.
I love Detroit 1-8-7. I tuned it initially to see Detroit on screen. Point out the land marks to my family and remember my years growing up there. But the sight seeing tour of Detroit is limited on the show which is good, because those don’t over-shadow the cast, talent and over-arching accomplishment of a well pulled toether show.
On the other hand. I’m done with Charlie Sheen and his show. I can’t even bring myself to watch a re-run.
Detroit 1-8-7 is a great show that, unfortunately, landed on the wrong network.
I agree…..abc does not appreciate good programming. I sincerely hope this show is picked up by a cable channel and it becomes the great success that it has potential for. I am so tired of mindless and stupid, crude sitcoms and reality shows that clutter our networks. If the sponsors of these ridiculous programs expect me to buy their products they are living in lala land!
It’s obvious that YOU don’t like Detroit 187, as your attitude is
contstantly negative about it and 100% unsupportive. Who pays you
to write such dribble?
You don’t cite sources for your opinions, and you don’t even report the viewership stats correctly. Now, that’s bias! Your prejudice reeks.
Where are the facts?
Detroit 187 is stellar and deserves real journalism commentaries.
@Willie: We don’t have any bias against any show. It’s unfortunate when any show is cancelled. However, no matter how good you feel a show is, facts are facts.
Detroit 1-8-7 is currently the lowest-rated scripted series on the network. There’s a link to the ratings information in the article and in the related articles listings as well. In case you missed it, here’s the latest: http://tvseriesfinale.com/?p=19210
And by the way, I think you mean “drivel” not “dribble.”
Admin, I’m sure you are not biased against any show. Although I do not totally understand how ratings work, it appears that Detroit 187 has more viewers that other shows do…according to that chart. Isn’t that what matters? I will fully admit that I am biased to this show because I am from Detroit. It’s my home and I love it!!! But, my point again, there are other shows on ABC that have less viewers. To be quite honest, most of their shows seem to be in the negative except for “V.” This is normally why I don’t watch ABC.… Read more »
@Kimberly: As the info that accompanies the chart says, it’s the 18-49 demographic numbers that matter most. Advertisers will pay more money for ads on a show with a high demo rating than a lower demo rating — regardless of total viewers. As a result, that’s what determines what’s cancelled or not.
Admin:
Thanks for the reply.
“Dribble” is synon for drivel, slabber, slobber, drool, salivate.
“Dribble” is also street slang for something that isn’t thought out well.
Saw the ratings info you referred to. It states that D-187 is “NOT CANCELLED
OR RENEWED YET.”
What is the fascination with people like Sheen and others like him? Detroit 187 is a quality show. Says a lot about the TV audience’s intelligence imo.
I am disappointed, beyond words, that ABC is canceling Detroit 1-8-7. It’s absolutely my favorite show on the air right now along with “The Good Wife.” I know so many people that have just recently really got into it and love it! I can’t believe ABC won’t give it at least one more chance. The cast is phenomenal and I love the chemistry between “Washington” and “Fitch.” I definitely will not be watching “Body of Evidence,” and can’t believe that ABC thinks that will be better than Detroit 1-8-7. I’m thinking probably not.
I am sorry to hear ABC is cancelling Detroit 187. I really enjoy it and think it is worth keeping, has a stellar cast and good stories.
I understand that reality shows are cheaper to produce, but I, personally, cannot stand most of them and feel they are a waste of time!
And, I will not waste one more minute of my time watching or listening to anything “Charlie Sheen”. He is a sick, spoiled child!!
KEEP DETROIT 187. Stop prempting it with non-interesting shows. D-187 is GOOD. DON’T CANCEL IT. PLEASE.
How about better advertising! This household found it by chance and want it to continue.
love the show. please don’t cancel it
Detroit 1-8-7 happens to be one of my favorite shows. ABC keeps bouncing it. It might
help if they would keep it in it’s normal time slot. Who really cares about Charlie Sheen’s rantings. He’s just another spoiled child that has been indulged too long
One last thing, Detroit 187 has a stellar cast and I hope another network, HBO or Showtime will pick them up. What a way to waste the talent of Michael Imperioli. ABC is a loser all the way around!
You are so right Teresa! Just like Southland is thriving on TNT…Detroit 187 would thrive elsewhere…hope it happens because we love this show!
This is why I prefer other networks like USA, TNT, FX, and TBS that allow a show to a chance to find it’s audience. They also air the episode more than once and make it available for the viewer. The three networks lose the viewership because they will not allow a series to build. Now we lose Detroit 187. Every year we suffer these fools. If only the talent would forget the three networks and shop their show to other networks where they will get airtime we wouldn’t have to see good work dumped for lunatic celebrities that need way… Read more »
