Charlie Sheen and CBS’ Two and a Half Men have played havoc with the other network’s schedules for years. The sitcom is one of the top-rated shows on television and sometimes reruns outperform the competition. Now, Sheen is helping ABC for a change.
ABC News has landed an exclusive interview with the troubled actor and will air it on Tuesday night on a special edition of 20/20. The special edition will no doubt get huge ratings.
To make room for the interview, ABC has once again pre-empted Detroit 1-8-7, the network’s lowest-rated scripted series. From a ratings standpoint, just about anything they can put in that timeslot will perform as well or better than Detroit 1-8-7. Last week’s special edition of Primetime garnered a 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.14 million viewers. That’s certainly not a great performance but it is 14% better than the previous episode of Detroit 1-8-7.
As frustrating as this may be to fans of the crime drama, ABC isn’t likely to stop pre-empting it. On the positive side, Detroit 1-8-7 remains on next week’s schedule, for now at least. At this point, the show is all but cancelled and the network is essentially burning off the remaining episodes. There are three episodes left in this season and there’s no way that its coming back for season two.
What do you think? Will ABC get around to airing the three remaining episodes of Detroit 1-8-7?
I thought this was a great show and was consistently getting better. It was put in a bad time slot. Plots were great. Am really sorry that this is being cancelled.
I can not believe that ABC is canceling Detroit 187. It is one of the most realistic detective dramas on TV. I also have many friends who feel the same. We are from Toledo Ohio and are very glad to see that someone is taking notice of Detroit. It is a great city and fighting like hell to come back after the automotive crash. Maybe ABC can reconsider….
ABC will lose my viewing by one hour if they don’t bring back Detroit 187.
Why do well written shows like this one fail to be given a chance by TV execs? Maybe a cable network will pick it up; we seem to be watching more cable anyway and less and less
ABC stuff. How about USA or TNT or FX coming to the rescue.
Detriot 187 is the best new show in a long time. Who cares about Charlie Sheen yuk. To bad for ABC now back to never watching it.
My husband and I absolutely love Detroit 187! We love the main character and the way the show reveals little by little his story as well as the relationship with his young partner. ABC should keep this show. We are sick of the show being pre-empted, especially for Charlie Sheen. He does not deserve air time.
The only show I set my DVR to record each week. I can’t believe ABC is considering cancelling the show.
One can only hope that one of the cable networks pick it up if ABC does drop it. Atleast on a cable network it will have a chance to grow much like Southland has done on TNT
we love this show please keep it running only show my husband enjoys watching looked for it last week and we cant believe its not on this week
I’m disgusted with the way this idiot network is killing Detroit 1-8-7. It’s a well-written, well-acted, well-filmed show yet ABC leaves it twisting in the wind helpless to save itself. Hopefully CBS will pick it up; they know how to develop a show. ABC doesn’t have a clue.
How does ABC think a show can build a following when they pre-empt the show more often than it’s aired? If memory serves me, the show has had three times in the entire season where it was aired 2 weeks in a row. It’s a fabulous show and one I look forward to (often in vain) each week. The characters are interesting and the show is well paced and it has so much to offer if allowed to continue. Come on ABC, support this show and don’t kill it through poor programming decisions.
Please don’t cancel Detroit 1-8-7!! I’ve really got into the characters and love seeing Detroit being showcased. Find another time slot. . . I’ll watch!
Why oh Why…Charlie Sheen over Detroit- 187? Glamorize sex, drugs and bubble gum – just what the kids need today!!! I love (d) Detroit-187 and have gotten 6 of my friends to be faithful followers only ti be pre-empted. I put Detroit-187 in the same class as Castle – leave what works on the air.
Detroit 1-8-7 is an awesome show! I’ll be very disappointed in ABC if it’s cancelled. Disappointed, but not surprised. As with so many superb shows that have substance, depth and great acting; the networks feel compelled to chuck them in favor of shows that provide nothing more than shallow, insipid dialog and predictable or insulting story plots; or in favor of the nauseatingly popular, mind-numbingly moronic reality shows. Way to go ABC!
Frankly, I hate Charlie Sheen, hate his sitcom, and would MUCH rather watch Detroit 1-8-7. For that matter, I hate the infotainment gibberish that the once proud 20/20 has become. I don’t give a damn about celebrities, and celebrity interviews have absolutely NO place on a news program. That’s bullsh*t. I wish ABC had the courage to support its grown-up dramas instead of pandering to the underage male audience 24/7. I’m over 40 and have a lot more money to spend than any teenager. You’d think they’d pay more attention to *my* demographic for a change.
I virtually watch no prime time TV. I recently found Detroit 1-8-7. I thought it a great show! I can’t understand why ABC would cancel it. Friends feel the same. Big mistake ABC!!! I guess I am back to reruns, and other networks (FOX, PBS, WGN, ION, HGTV, TCM to name a few). I like the characters Washington and Fitch. I would like to see them developed further.
