On Tuesday, ABC pre-empted Detroit 1-8-7 with a special edition of 20/20 in which Diane Sawyer interviewed Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford’s husband about the Tucson shooting. Based on the preliminary ratings for the program, ABC made a good choice. It attracted a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.18 million total viewers. While those aren’t great numbers, they’re a 30% improvement over last week’s episode of Detroit 1-8-7 (1.0 in the demo with 5.05 million).
Next week, the cop drama will be replaced by the annual State of the Union address. Right now, Detroit 1-8-7 is scheduled to return on February 1st but one has to wonder if that will actually happen. ABC has a track record of pre-empting low-rated shows with the intention of bringing them back but it just never happens.
The network has ordered 18 installments of Detroit 1-8-7 and 12 of those have aired so far. It would seem like a waste not to air the remaining six but the same could be said for the leftover seven episodes of The Whole Truth. If ABC can keep coming up with specials that will perform better, we may likely have seen the last of low-rated Detroit 1-8-7.
What do you think? Will Detroit 1-8-7 return to the regular schedule or lost in hiatus and cancelled?

U need 2 keep this one alive.everyone i know loves FITCH.get it together already. what does it take 4 u 2 listen. enuf of everyone hopping in/out of bed.i enjoy intelligent acting and wide turns. music is great 2. give it a chance will you. the story line connecting nyc, detroit, and canada is FRESH. WAKE UP
This is a really good cop show. The acting is great and the story lines are getting better. The cast members are still developing their roles. ABC give it a chance and the show should catch on. It is too good of a drama to be replaced by another sitcom or reality show.
Detroit 187 had a rough start that failed to capture some return viewers, but the show keeps getting better. The quality of the later episodes would have kept these as loyal viewers in a crowded schedule. I believe they would be rewarded to stay with it.
My wife and I look forward to tuesday nights to watch Detroit 187. It is the best show that has come along in a while. Most of the networks and cable stations are looking to flood the airways with reality shows that almost cover every subject except watching people sleep. The story lines are gritty and acted very well. Fitch is now developing and we are hooked. ABC, please keep the show on the air. Look to another night if you must put another reality program on. I like the on sight filming and not trying to cover up the… Read more »
I love 187 please don’t cancel
You finally have a series that is smart, articulate, has character definition, is well acted, great scripted, and is enjoyable to watch……what is your problem……KEEP this show going!
Please don’t cancel Detroit 187. Interesting characters and story lines.
Gotta keep the series ALIVE! Good TV -vs- reality TV…PLEASE….its on of the better shows we watch gotta keep it going!
It’s a very good show please keep it. I tape it or watch it on the internet every week, or I tape the Good Wife and watch Detroit 187….. Great show!!
Don’t cancel D 187. It’s a really good show.
Detroit 187 is the best show on TV. With all of the other miserable offerings on ABC, I can’t believe the network is not sticking with this show.
i love this show they should put it on a hour early than ten in detroit its always a great story if they cancel it they are stupid they could make money with it
Please save 1-8-7…..I watch this show all the time and tape something else that is on at the same time….all the scenery they show is Detroit at its best and worst…all the characters have their own nitch…I can’t say enough about the show….
I hope they cancel it. It’s a horrible, cookie cutter cop show. I live in Detroit. It’s the most unrealistic portrayal of the city yet. Good riddance.
This show is bringing money to the city. If this show does well, then more shows will want to film in our city. I want more shows here bringing their money and jobs to the residents. I love the show and I like that they are really filming here in the D.
love the show and the story lines. the acting is great. hope it’s NOT cancelled. if it, maybe it will be picked up by a smart network. maybe ABC could take the mindless, shallow “Bachelor” show off.
