On Tuesday, ABC pre-empted Detroit 1-8-7 with a special edition of 20/20 in which Diane Sawyer interviewed Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford’s husband about the Tucson shooting. Based on the preliminary ratings for the program, ABC made a good choice. It attracted a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.18 million total viewers. While those aren’t great numbers, they’re a 30% improvement over last week’s episode of Detroit 1-8-7 (1.0 in the demo with 5.05 million).
Next week, the cop drama will be replaced by the annual State of the Union address. Right now, Detroit 1-8-7 is scheduled to return on February 1st but one has to wonder if that will actually happen. ABC has a track record of pre-empting low-rated shows with the intention of bringing them back but it just never happens.
The network has ordered 18 installments of Detroit 1-8-7 and 12 of those have aired so far. It would seem like a waste not to air the remaining six but the same could be said for the leftover seven episodes of The Whole Truth. If ABC can keep coming up with specials that will perform better, we may likely have seen the last of low-rated Detroit 1-8-7.
What do you think? Will Detroit 1-8-7 return to the regular schedule or lost in hiatus and cancelled?

best show on tv, we will be so upset if it goes off the air, please keep this show on, its so well written and acted, characters are well developed
This is a great cop show! Shades of NYPD Blue (not to mention some old faces). I wish the networks would learn to promote these shows the way that the cable channels do. This one gets better every week.
what happend i remember when programmers would give a show time 2 develop remember cheers had very low ratings and then built up a following please u gotta give Detroit 187 a chance this show is so amazing the acting is second 2 none
MY HUSBAND AND I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!!!!! SO DOES MY MOTHER!!!
PLEASE DON’T CANCEL IT. THE ACTING IS GREAT, THE CHARACTERS ARE INTERESTING AND THE STORYLINES ARE REALLY GOOD!!!
From Detroit and I LOVE this show….don’t cancel it.
I hope the shows returns next season. Best police drama since NYPD went off the air!
I’m a Chicagoan and would watch Detroit 1-8-7 before even thinking about Chicago Code. I watched the entire first season over the weekend, and can only see sorely lacking publicity as the reason for it to be canceled.
PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL DETROIT 187. BEST POLICE DRAMA ON TV. REMINDS ME OF NYPD . EACH CHARACTER IS UNIQUE IN HIS OR HER WAY. MY FAVORITE IS FITCH, WHAT A GREAT ACTOR. I WAS SORRY TO SEE STONE GO OFF THE SHOW. THE TIME SLOT OF 10PM ON TUES MUST BE CURSED OR THE SHOWS ON OTHER CHANNELS ARE TOUGH COMPETITORS. IF NOT PICKED UP AGAIN BY ABC THEN LET ONE OF THE OTHER STATIONS PICK IT UP. PLEASE GIVE THIS SHOE ANOTHER CHANCE!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU
This is a GREAT show. Hate to see it cancelled.
Please do not cancel this show! It has everything going for it except the idiots that watch reality shows. Too bad.
With all the junk programs on TV one wonders who is charge of programming. When something good like Detroit 1-8-7 comes along and it’s constantly moved, how does anyone expect ratings to improve. Give us good programs or keep the good ones you already have.
I LOVE THIS SHOW. THE BEST OF ANY COP SHOW, OLD OR NEW. EVERYTIME I LIKE A SHOW, IT IS CANCELED. GIVE THE SHOW ANOTHER CHANCE SO MORE PEOPLE CAN SEE AND ENJOY IT. JEANIE
Great show!!! ABC should reconsider canceling this sleeper. Excellent acting, great writing, very interesting camera work, and good character interaction. Keep this show on a regular time slot and people will flock to it.
My husband and I look forward to watching this show each week. I don’t understand why anyone wouldn’t like this show. It’s fabulous!!!
The cast is great especially the give and take between Longford and Mahajan. Why would ABC want to take off a show that has great acting, and storylines that go beyond the police station. These are characters you haven’t necessarily seen before and are just developing. The tension between the blonde FBI agent and Fitch is played like a cat and mouse game.
ABC you need to give this show another chance, how about Sunday at 9 central. Instead of brothers and sisters where if someone isn’t saying they’re sorry every ten minutes it’s not a good night!
