On Tuesday, ABC pre-empted Detroit 1-8-7 with a special edition of 20/20 in which Diane Sawyer interviewed Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford’s husband about the Tucson shooting. Based on the preliminary ratings for the program, ABC made a good choice. It attracted a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.18 million total viewers. While those aren’t great numbers, they’re a 30% improvement over last week’s episode of Detroit 1-8-7 (1.0 in the demo with 5.05 million).
Next week, the cop drama will be replaced by the annual State of the Union address. Right now, Detroit 1-8-7 is scheduled to return on February 1st but one has to wonder if that will actually happen. ABC has a track record of pre-empting low-rated shows with the intention of bringing them back but it just never happens.
The network has ordered 18 installments of Detroit 1-8-7 and 12 of those have aired so far. It would seem like a waste not to air the remaining six but the same could be said for the leftover seven episodes of The Whole Truth. If ABC can keep coming up with specials that will perform better, we may likely have seen the last of low-rated Detroit 1-8-7.
What do you think? Will Detroit 1-8-7 return to the regular schedule or lost in hiatus and cancelled?

I love this show, this is one of the only shows on T.V I watch, other than N Y svu ,that seem real.
The actors that play clarence, fitch.and the sergeant they are so real,I feel like they are all
Part of my family. Please don,t take them away.
This is a very good police drama, much better than many other dramas that have stayed too long on TV. Some shows take time to find an audience, and they need to be placed in a time slot where they can flourish. The show is opposite The Good Wife now, and that is too hard to compete with. I tape both shows and watch them later. Please consider that some ot the audience tape the show. The actors are excellent and the stories are touching, especially in a dying city such as Detroit.
GREAT SHOW,GREAT CAST ,GREAT EVERYTHING,YOU HAVE A LOT OF TRASH TO CLEAN UP,LEAVE THIS ALONE WAKE UP..THANK YOU
It is a great show, ABC would be crazy to cancel it.
Please dont cancel Detroit 187 we can’t wait for the next episode.. Its one of the best shows on TV right now… we have numerous friends that watch…
I have enjoyed this show all year. Good acting, good scripts, interesting characters, and very believable compared to a lot of other police dramas.
I would be very disappointed if this show does not return.
At the very least, show the balance of unaired shows and develop a true ending.
This is a great show. Please don’t kill it.
I really enjoy this show. I hope they bring it back and soon.
Please reconsider cancelling this show. It is the best cop show since NYPD Blue. We look forward to it evey week. Michael Imperioli is fantastic in this role.
This great series and Justified are the only ones we watch as they are so realistic and raw. I hope ABC has enough sense to bring it back. What does it take for Americans to watch a show of this caliber & cease watching junk like Dancing with the Stars.
I’m sad to see this series go and I know this web site is old, but there are enough Big Named People from the Motor Coty to get this back on track. Our New Governor just killed the Movie industry here in this state, and specifically from Allen Park where I grew up. It’s a shame to let this get away to. Alot od shows happen in New York, LA, Miami, etc. come on Detroit. Let’s Go!!!!!
Problem is they kept putting it off so it wasn’t on consistently like other shows. Had I note had my DVR set to record new episodes automatically it would have fallen off my radar too.
What is the network thinking? With all the nonsense on television now, you finally get a show that is worth watching and more about real life drama that some half-witted comedy or sick housewives. Come on executives get your heads out of the sane and see this show for what it is. GREAT!!!! Perhaps you need some executives with more real life seasoning than some young “want to be hip” types who think all we want to see is the junk that is on TV. Think about us older folks who enjoy a good drama. Remember, there are a lot… Read more »
