On Tuesday, ABC pre-empted Detroit 1-8-7 with a special edition of 20/20 in which Diane Sawyer interviewed Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford’s husband about the Tucson shooting. Based on the preliminary ratings for the program, ABC made a good choice. It attracted a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.18 million total viewers. While those aren’t great numbers, they’re a 30% improvement over last week’s episode of Detroit 1-8-7 (1.0 in the demo with 5.05 million).
Next week, the cop drama will be replaced by the annual State of the Union address. Right now, Detroit 1-8-7 is scheduled to return on February 1st but one has to wonder if that will actually happen. ABC has a track record of pre-empting low-rated shows with the intention of bringing them back but it just never happens.
The network has ordered 18 installments of Detroit 1-8-7 and 12 of those have aired so far. It would seem like a waste not to air the remaining six but the same could be said for the leftover seven episodes of The Whole Truth. If ABC can keep coming up with specials that will perform better, we may likely have seen the last of low-rated Detroit 1-8-7.
What do you think? Will Detroit 1-8-7 return to the regular schedule or lost in hiatus and cancelled?

Detroit 187 was a GREAT program. I looked so forward to it as the only weeknight program (new or old) that compared to “Homicide’ or ‘The Wire’. I had an excellent cast and a great story every week. Please bring it back.
PLease, Please bring Detroit 1-8-7 back. It;s very entertaining and real. Unlike some of the
other garbage the networks continue to bring back.
I never had a desire to go to Detroit, but watching the show has me going there in a couple of months.
Please, do not cancel a good thing!
I cannot believe that you are considering this show for cancellation – with all the mindless shows on TV (i.e. Amazing Race, Mentalist, etc.), you finally get a good one – like NYPD Blue, or Law & Order and it is gone in a matter of weeks. Please reconsider and bring it back. I’ll be waiting!!!
Of all the new programs, Detroit was the BEST!! Even my husband liked it. We don’t watch too many network programs. Too filthy. We liked Detroit. Please, let it come back on.
Bring Detroit 187 back it was an very entertaining series. It reallly touched people who live in Michigan. Life goes on here too ,even though Detroit doesn’t get recognition, we are a great state and we support our police officers. The show was a fine change..

I sometimes wonder who are the people that cancels excellent tv series such as Detroit 187. We the audience would like to have some say on what is being viewed..There is so much garbage on. Please bring Detroit 187 back.

Loved the show and miss it. Bring it back.
This show is a lot better than the mindless contestant shows like Amazing Race, etc. This is one of the few shows produced by ABC that I do watch. Evidently, ABC is able to attract advertising with poor programing so why bother changing.
I hope they bring back Detroit 187! I love that show. I have only a few chosen series I watch faithfully, and this is one of them. I have seen every episode and find it intense, interesting and good acting, The stories are great. Please bring it back
Like the others have mentioned, it is hard to find a good quality show on TV these days that is not some reality show. Detroit 187 has created a cast of characters that intrigues and captivates the audience. Please do not cancel this show, it is well worth keeping it around for the viewers and for the folks in Detroit who also need the work this show brings to the area!
Please keep the show. I have two sons. One works for CBS, the other NBC, I do not care, just keep Detroit 187. It could be a long running show, i.e. Law and Order.
Detroit 187 is an amazing show…the acting, by every actor is superb. Non-conventional, this show has won my applause and my heart. Please bring it back!!!!
I really liked the actors and it had I thought verly good writting. Hated to see it cancelled. A much better action show than Castle or US Marshalls. CSI Miami and Hawaii 5-0 are Saturday morning cartoon shows compared to Detroit 187. ABC just likes to promote it’s self and journalists instead of good entertainment.
Please renew Detroit 187–it is too well written and too well acted to be cancelled while the airwaves are filled with mindless “reality shows”. don’t let a good thing get away. The show is gritty, believable, exciting—don’t give it the “187”.
I’m like Irene Jones, I have NEVER written in about a TV show before but “Detroit 187” is such a GREAT show! There are soo many twists and turnes in each show you can’t guess the endings. They always surprise me. When every show ended I found myself saying “Wow, that’s a GOOD show”! Tuesday night T.V. is usually boring to me and in the winter I sometimes have a hard time staying up to 10:00. So on those nights, when I was tired, I would go to sleep for a hour or two and set my alarm clock to… Read more »
