On Tuesday, ABC pre-empted Detroit 1-8-7 with a special edition of 20/20 in which Diane Sawyer interviewed Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford’s husband about the Tucson shooting. Based on the preliminary ratings for the program, ABC made a good choice. It attracted a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.18 million total viewers. While those aren’t great numbers, they’re a 30% improvement over last week’s episode of Detroit 1-8-7 (1.0 in the demo with 5.05 million).
Next week, the cop drama will be replaced by the annual State of the Union address. Right now, Detroit 1-8-7 is scheduled to return on February 1st but one has to wonder if that will actually happen. ABC has a track record of pre-empting low-rated shows with the intention of bringing them back but it just never happens.
The network has ordered 18 installments of Detroit 1-8-7 and 12 of those have aired so far. It would seem like a waste not to air the remaining six but the same could be said for the leftover seven episodes of The Whole Truth. If ABC can keep coming up with specials that will perform better, we may likely have seen the last of low-rated Detroit 1-8-7.
What do you think? Will Detroit 1-8-7 return to the regular schedule or lost in hiatus and cancelled?

Definately deserves a second season. Charecters and story line are really developing.
ABC please give it a chance!
My husband and I love this show! It is a nice alternative to all the garbage reality tv shows that I cannot stand to watch. The characters and story lines continue to get more interesting with each episode. This program contains intelligent story lines that allows the viewer to make predictions and draw inferences. Another wards, it makes you use your brain, unlike all of these mindless reality shows. American television has gotten so ridiculous over the last five years. If this show gets cancelled for some stupid reality tv show, I may quit watching tv altogether. There needs to… Read more »
The show keeps getting better and better. This week was especially compelling. The writing was wonderful, and Michael Imperioli showed many facets to his character. This show should be allowed to continue to grow. There are so many stories left to be told. ABC, do NOT pull the plug!
A GREAT show….I’d watch more TV if we had shows like this!!
This is a phenominal new show.
I would be very upset if this show doesn’t come back. By far the best show of it’s type since NYPD Blue.
What a waste if it is cancelled.

This is one of the best cop shows ever. The story is really getting good now, particularly with the character “Fitch.” Even though the ratings are low, I say ABC just needs to keep it on the air for another season, possibly switching its time-slot to a better spot for next season. The characters are the kind you care about and really enjoy spending time with, even if the subject matter is grim.
Love the show. ABC, KEEP IT ON THE AIR!!!
I love Detroit 187. But there is a caveat. Why the close-ups all the time? I like to see the streets, the buildings, the offices, the people intermingling, etc. You no sooner have a scene and there is a close up. I don’t want to see someones eyebrow hairs, pimples, and zits. Your camera person acts like he/she just discovered the zoom lens. The camera action is dizzying.
I love this show! The problem might be that it is shown opposite Parenthood AND The Good Wife. How about trying a night like Wednesday where there is seemingly nothing to watch. This show is great. Please don’t cancel it.
Been looking for a great cop show on ABC since NYPD Blue left the air. ABC has a talent for developing intellegent shows that don’t get the rates they want (Life on Mars). Detroit 187 deserves a second season. The story line is developing and we are finally seeing more of the backstory of the characters. Things are getting interesting so it must be time to cancel.
Yeah…I’m a bit surprised that it’s so low-rated. This happened with the last show Michael Imperioli was on..another AWESOME show that got cancelled: Life On Mars (cop show set in 70s with cop from 2008). At least THAT show was allowed to wrap things up…even if it was a bit rushed. It seems like Imperioli just can’t get a break. He’s a great actor and has been ever since I first saw him as “Spider” in GoodFellas (bartender shot by Tommy DeSimone…JoePesci…”What? I’m a clown? I make you laugh?” heh heh). Anyway…it just shows how ignorant and bland the country… Read more »
i can’t beleive they want to cut that show.it’s a great show don’t do it please
PLEEEEESE DO NOT CANCEL DETROIT 187!!!! It’s a great police show. The characters and problems/crimes are real. With all the stupid so-called comedy shows on, this IS a refreshing program. Give it a chance ok?
Thank U.
My husband and I really enjoy Detroit 187. I think it is one of the best new shows aired this year. It would be such a mistake to take it off the air!!!!!
I love this show! Keep it on please! We have enough of those goofy reality shows and game shows thats the crap that needs to be dropped

I absolutely LOVE “Detroit 1-8-7”! I’m horrified to think that it might be cancelled.
We love this show, too!!! It’s our favorite!!! The characters and plots are excellent!
