East New York was cancelled by CBS earlier this week, but there is still some hope that the series could be saved and renewed for a second season. The show’s studio, Warner Bros Television, had started to informally shop the series to other outlets in recent weeks when renewal talks with CBS weren’t going as well as hoped.
Starring Amanda Warren, Jimmy Smits, Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Kevin Rankin, Richard Kind, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Olivia Luccardi, and Lavel Schley, East New York revolves around the officers and detectives of the 74th precinct in the East New York neighborhood of Brooklyn.
Per Deadline, East New York had been on track for a renewal — until the cancellation of SWAT was rescinded. The two police dramas were essentially competing for the same time slot, so the newer drama ended up being the loser.
With a loyal following of viewers, there has been some backlash following the drama’s cancellation and the studio is looking for a new home. Those efforts are complicated now that the WGA strike is underway.
Mike Flynn, co-creator of the CBS series, told fans of the series to stay tuned in a post on Instagram.

One of best shows on TV with authentic, compelling characters.. my top 3 favorite shows on TV…hard to fathom why this would be canceled..will resist venturing a guess…

Don’t watch a lot of network shows but east New York was excellent from first show to last please bring this quality show back
Best new show. Great cast, storyline and more. I hope CBS or someone will give it a chance as it is excellent. So disappointed it was not renewed. Fingers crossed

East New York was a breath of fresh air in its intelligence, diverse,excellent cast. The story lines rose above the typical network snows.
I was so disappointed to hear East New York was cancelled. Have really enjoyed watching. I hope they reconsider. You get interested in a show then they cancel.
Please renew EAST NEW York it is onevof the best written tv series the characters have depth which isn’t something all shows have.

I hope this show is renewed. I like the fact that they realize there is good and bad on both sides. They promote trying to work together to fix it not just name calling on both sides. All while giving us characters that we love!

Network TV has lost its mind. Finally, a show with complex plots and characters instead of fake “reality TV,” so they cancel it after one season. Don’t do it, CBS! But, if you must, I’ll follow it elsewhere because there are too few shows with strong female characters who fight back for what’s right. The cast diversity—of ages, ethnicities and backgrounds also gives it much more depth than the average series. Keep it on the air!
It is a shame that CBS can’t stand behind their shows. East New York. There needs to be a campaign to rescind this cancellation. This is why people don’t like to watch episodal network series.
Most of the classic network shows are just terrible, anymore, compared to the streaming competion but East New York is a HUGE exception. The show is great!
