East New York was cancelled by CBS earlier this week, but there is still some hope that the series could be saved and renewed for a second season. The show’s studio, Warner Bros Television, had started to informally shop the series to other outlets in recent weeks when renewal talks with CBS weren’t going as well as hoped.
Starring Amanda Warren, Jimmy Smits, Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Kevin Rankin, Richard Kind, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Olivia Luccardi, and Lavel Schley, East New York revolves around the officers and detectives of the 74th precinct in the East New York neighborhood of Brooklyn.
Per Deadline, East New York had been on track for a renewal — until the cancellation of SWAT was rescinded. The two police dramas were essentially competing for the same time slot, so the newer drama ended up being the loser.
With a loyal following of viewers, there has been some backlash following the drama’s cancellation and the studio is looking for a new home. Those efforts are complicated now that the WGA strike is underway.
Mike Flynn, co-creator of the CBS series, told fans of the series to stay tuned in a post on Instagram.

VERY DISAPPOINTED about possible cancelation of this series. I loved the show and the cast was great! It’s too bad CBC decided to choose SWAT over East NY. East NY is definitely one of the BEST out there. Is it really that difficult to have TWO good shows. I hope somebody picks this show up!
The quality of East New York is uncommon in this streaming day and age. Great cast, solid plot lines, gritty performances – and CBS goes with a worn out SWAT instead of ENY. This is why people are abandoning ‘linear’ tv – the networks take no risks and offer up mundane choices only. Hope someone figures out how to get a second season for this great series. (Who doesn’t love having Bobby Simone back….?) There’s enough forgettable programming on CBS to push out in favor of ENY.
I really loved this show. I hope they can find a new time slot instead of canceling.

This is one the the better shows on and I can’t believe that it was cancelled. I am hopeful that it will get picked up.

My wife and I were very disappointed that East New York was cancelled. It is the best show on network television.
If it is picked up by another outlet we will certainly be faithful viewers.

Quit watching swat a few years ago acting was poor along with story lines. I can’t believe you’re renewing swat over East New York.

I was so shocked to see that East New York was cancelled and then to find out it was only because of a time slot issue with the show Swat which was suppose to go to Netflix. I was a huge fan from the first episode and still after the season finale. I sure hope CBS finds a work around. Please save this show.
East NY is a wonderful and entertaining show and fully deserves to continue and grow. CBS has made a major mistake in failing to renew it. Any network that picks it up will have a loyal viewer in me.
