There’s some more bad news for fans of ABC’s Eastwick. Not only has the series been cancelled but the last episode is going to leave several storylines unresolved.
Eastwick follows a trio of ladies (Rebecca Romijn, Lindsay Price, and Jaime Ray Newman) from a New England town who discover that they have supernatural powers, thanks to a handsome newcomer, Darryl Van Horne (Paul Gross). The rest of the show’s cast includes Ashley Benson, Johann Urb, Jon Bernthal, Sara Rue, and Veronica Cartwright.
The series struggled from the very beginning of its run, mustering just a 3.0 rating in the demo and 8.5 million viewers for its premiere. The second week fell to a 2.3 rating and 6.57 million. Things got even worse after that. Last week’s episode hit a series low of a 1.5 and 4.4 million viewers.
Based on these numbers, it comes as little surprise that ABC decided to cancel the struggling drama after 13 episodes. On the bright side, it looks like all of the installments will air. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like fans will be getting any closure for the many ongoing storylines.
In an interview with EW, executive producer Maggie Friedman said that she was furious over the cancellation. She said, “We have such an amazing group of writers and actors — best people I’ve ever worked with. None of us can believe this is really happening.”

Of the possibility of closure, Friedman said, “We’re smack in the middle of several insanely juicy stories. And so we do not get a chance to wrap things up in a bow. Which is killing me.”
She concluded, “The magic was getting crazy, the storylines were getting really exciting and sexy and dangerous… I [just] wish we could’ve given the fans — and ourselves — real closure.”
While it’s unfortunate that ABC has cancelled a series that millions of people enjoy, it’s no secret that the show has been on the chopping block for some time.
The network gave full season orders to its most of its freshman shows a month ago and Eastwick was left out. Coupled with the terrible ratings, just about everyone who follows the industry knew that Eastwick was on borrowed time. Why was Friedman so surprised by the cancellation?
Other shows who’ve been on shaky ground have found a way to give some closure while leaving some loose threads, just in case the show was renewed. Shouldn’t that have been the case with Eastwick?

i will really miss this series. i have the original movie and was excited to have a mini series done about it. i enjoyed every episode and really bummed it won’t be on anymore. i think they were wrongly cancelled.
ABC sucks for canceling this show. I am so sick of reality TV it was nice to have a great show to watch that was entertaining.
I think that it’s just impossible for a show with any real story to make it. In an industry where smutty reality shows and second rate sitcoms (The Middle? Really?) are the standard, a show like Eastwick with a decent story and a good cast was condemned from the start. I quit watching Fox because of their habit of cancelling any decent show they happen across, and it looks as though ABC is getting just as trashy. I agree with everyone here this show had amazing actors and the stort line was outstanding!! but how the HELL could any one get ibto it if ABC kept inturpting it.. and played randomly..!!! come one give i think if ABC puts it on a different night or different time slot and let the show paly consistantlt it would have got much higher ratings.
I am so upset about this. ABC had an intelligent, witty, funny, sensuous, titillating, charming, spellicious thriller that I and my whole family absolutely loved. They were constantly interrupting it, no wonder the audience couldn’t get into it. I am sooooo sad to see that Eastwick is being canceled. I was confused with the date and time that the last episode ran. It was missing so many closures from the previous to last episode that I had to google what was going on; and that’s how I found out that it was being canceled. I feel that the show would have been well received if it ran on a better night and time slot. I think eastwick had a great cast, It took me out of reality for an hour each week, it was fun, entertaining, interresting, exciting, kept you on the edge of your seat, and its a real shame, that they are replacing it with some dumb ugly betty show!!! I love cougertown, but they could end comedy wednesday at 10, and keep eastwick!! Also the way you ended it was very dissapointing. The show didnt even get a chance!! why don’t you put it on another night, instead of canceling it? Theres always choices? you made the wrong one!!!
Well let me say this… ABC you suck to not even give the show a chance… You have to understand it needs time to develope. I think the story line is well written. Now some one will have to get the rights to put it out on DVD and when will that happen when my kids grow up… Thanks a lot…
I love this show and I am so upset that it is canceled! I am losing interest in ABC shows. They keep canceling all the good shows which is very frustrating. How can a show make it if they hardly give it a chance? Also when they air shows at random times, how do they expect the shows to receive decent ratings?
I can’t believe you are really going to go through with the cancellation of such an incredible show. As a praciticing wiccan in the US I would look forward to this show every week. What a fabulous show-it really displayed women in a positive, powerful way. There were no women on that show that were concerned with dieting, primping for the men in their lives they were all about embracing their strengths as women….bring the show back!!!! i am soo mad!!!!! i’m going to stop watching ABC’s new shows, too. i LOVED samantha who AND october road..and now that eastwick is cancelled..UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i am so annoyed! and..the finale had new characters in it! wth? i am so confused!
I totally think it’s ABC trying to recreate an instant #1 hit like Grey’s Anatomy. I liked Eastwick a lot. This is not the first short running show ABC has run that I have become addicted to & they just cancel. Brian’s Road (?), October Road, Samantha Who, Life on Mars…I’m going to stop watching new ABC shows because ABC won’t keep them around anyway.
I agree. I had a hard time finding it too. It would be on a week then skip 2, then on 2. It was difficult keeping up. I also missed an episode and couldn’t find it anywhere to be able to watch. Also the last episode that was on seemed to have skipped one. I looked for it on line again, but it isn’t there. I adored the characters and looked ahead to see if it was on. I am very disappointed that it is cancelled.
I love this show. I missed the first episode. Tried to find it online to watch. But it was not available. I think the acting is great. I love all the characters. I feel if you let this run in re runs you will grab a much larger base. Let it show on ABC website. Let the public catch up. I for one love this show. I heard they canceled Eastwick a while ago and was shocked to find it still on the other night……ABC did not promote the show….in fact by saying it was canceled before the fact probably confused most viewers who probably didn’t even know it was still on and therefore really saw a decline in viewers…shame on you ABC…Shame on U!
