The ratings for Elementary fell quite a bit last year but CBS still renewed it. Is it essentially guaranteed to be renewed for a fourth season because that will give the series enough episodes for a syndication package? If the ratings drop low enough, could it be cancelled instead? Stay tuned.
A contemporary update on the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle characters, Elementary follows eccentric detective Sherlock Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller) and Doctor Joan Watson (Lucy Liu) as they help solve crimes in New York. Aidan Quinn and Jon Michael Hill co-star.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
5/11 update: CBS has renewed Elementary for a fourth season.

For comparisons: The second season of Elementary averaged a 1.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 8.79 million total viewers.
Note: Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you still like the Elementary TV show? Do you think it should be cancelled or be renewed for a fourth season?
Absolutely wonderful show. The chemistry between Holmes and Watson couldn’t be better. Both the acting (particularly by Jonny Lee Miller) and the writing are superb.
I’m a lifelong Sherlock Holmes fan and very picky about how the character is presented in contemporary media but Elementary has far exceeded my expectations. I hope to God it’s not cancelled!
Best show on TV. Thoughtful, emotional, intelligent. Jonny Miller is superb as Holmes. Lucy Liu is perfect foil as Watson…and gorgious ! Needs to move to 9, not nearly as brutal as many other cop shows. Or better lead in. 12 episode arc with Kitty probably diluted Sherlock/Watson devoted viewers (I’m one of them). Made sense in end, but we didn’t know that through what amounts to half the season! A real loss if it goes away.
Elementary is a very enjoyable and entertaining show and it’s even intellectually satisfying. It’s sometimes a little difficult to grasp right away, but that is its charm and in fact that’s what makes it the type of show that one can easily binge on. It’s the kind of show that grows on you.Jonny Lee Miller is a first rate actor and he ‘s the one who gives the show its soul and he sets the acting standard for the rest. If those of you who consult this website, appreciate this show enough, please try to get as many people as… Read more »
Keep it for us mature audience that enjoys quality acting and good writing.
I love this show!!!! I love the chemistry between the characters, and I love the banter as well…. This season wasn’t what I expected, but I still enjoy the unfolding of the experience. .. I do want Watson and Holmes back together fighting crime because that chemistry is not exactly SEXUAL, but not the ” bones”, kinda close, yet somewhere in between for these two characters. .. it holds balance…. I WANT TO SEE ANOTHER SEASON!!!
Time to fold.
know when to hold ’em, know when to fold ’em. yeah, bad joke, but I couldn’t resist 🙂
I love the show. Please renew it.
Well, at least it’s come back in January looks promising. 8.6 million compared to the 7.5 season 3 premiere? Way better. Good luck, Elementary! KEEP IT UP! BRING ON SEASON 4!
Season 3 episode 10 was really good. The ending properly opened up the Kitty arc. Season 3 is picking up really well. The last one, episode 9, JLM’s soliloquy on the monotony of life was riveting.
the kitty arc? you mean more of the character that must people cite as their reason for no longer watching?
I’d very much like nemo f to tell me please, which are the ” the things I’ve seen that aren’t there”. Maybe, nemo f is referring to the BBC Sherlock, in which case I can prove everything I’ve said are, indeed, there. Irene Adler, using her nudity as a tool to attract, distract etc. Sherlock’s attention and in another scene reminding him that he knows the code to the safe and then Sherlock guessing it, because it’s her bust, waiste and hip meadurement. This was so cheap, Bond style. As a woman, she can be either a ********** or a… Read more »
you are a fanboy and won’t listen to a thing I say, so…. please, enjoy the show while it lasts
What a great show Elementary is ! JLM is oozing with charisma in every episode. That has been essential in creating the chemistry that there is between Sherlock and Watson. Just leave it to the brilliant acting of the cast, especially that of Jonny Lee Miller to turn Kitty into a compelling character. Lovibond is a good actor, we just have to wait and see how her story unfolds, because Kitty Winter of the Canon has an interesting story too.
I like the show even though it is not a good this season as it has been.
I enjoy the show immensely, and agree wholeheartedly with Jimmy. I actually like the Kitty character, but wouldn’t mind if she wasn’t there either. In my opinion, as long as you have Jonny and Lucy, the show is excellent. I hope that they renew it.
I teach history of art and cinema and my husband is professor of literature. Our two sons, 27 and 29 introduced us to Elementary, because they were impressed with the way it’s done. They like the pace, the cast, the diversity, the music and above all, Jonny Lee Miller’s acting, so do we. They had us watch the Beeb’s Sherlock too in order to compare and we were all terribly disappointed with the BBC production of Sherlock. Frankly, the writing is quite mediocre and the casting for most part is also unimpressive. It’s shamefully mysogenous with the way Irene Adler… Read more »
wow, you are really over thinking this show and seeing stuff that isn’t there
Er…what? Seriously, just, what!
BBC sherlock is annoying, Martin Freeman is a drab and Cumberbatch can do better than be in such a mediocre TV show. JLM’s Sherlock is more entertaining and it’s nice to see him change. There is also way more chemistry between Lucy Liu and JLM than between Cumberbatch and Freeman. Elementary always has surprises and that’s really nice.
so NCIS brought in Bishop to be a fresh face to appeal to a younger demo and it failed. Demo and total viewers are down. Appears Kitty was brought in for the same affect here and it is also failing, only more so.
have watched the show since it began
am disappointed in the new cast member
not in her acting
but the character’s placement
and the distancing between sherlock and watson
I agree completely with Chuck Lewis’ comments. I love all things Sherlock (yes even the books) I don’t believe there will ever be a better portrayal of Conan Doyle’s Holmes and Watson than Jeremy Brett and Edwin Hardwick. Having said that I really do enjoy Cumberbatchh in the role as well as Martin Freeman as his Watson (I didn’t agree with recent poll that he is the best though) BBC only puts out about 3 shows a year which probably makes it easier for the writer’s and cast to keep everyone happy. I think Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Lui… Read more »
