Elena of Avalor is ending its run on Disney Junior after three seasons of royal adventures. New episodes will begin airing on July 26th and a primetime special will end the series on August 23rd.
Disney Junior revealed more about the final installments of the animated series in a press release.
“Princess Elena’s heroic journey to become queen culminates in an epic prime-time finale special of Disney’s Emmy® and Imagen Award-winning series Elena of Avalor, premiering SUNDAY, AUGUST 23 (7:00 p.m. EDT/PDT). New episodes leading up to the finale will debut every Sunday, beginning JULY 26 (5:00 p.m. EDT/PDT). All episodes premiere on Disney Junior and DisneyNOW.
Inspired by diverse Latin cultures and folklore, Elena of Avalor premiered in July 2016 and tells the story of Elena, a brave and adventurous teenager who has been learning what it takes to be a great leader by ruling her enchanted fairytale kingdom as crown princess until she is old enough to be queen. The series, which airs in over 150 countries around the world, has been lauded for its messages of leadership and inclusiveness.
Creator and executive producer Craig Gerber said, “It has been a tremendous honor for me to bring Disney’s first Latina princess to the screen. Everyone involved with Elena of Avalor, from the creative team to the unbelievable cast and crew, felt the responsibility to get this right. We created the character of Elena with the hope that she would be a role model, not just for young Latina girls watching, but for all children to be able to see what a true leader looks like. From the beginning, Elena’s story arc has been that she would one day become queen. With the series finale, the creative team has been able to bring Elena’s story to the thrilling conclusion that we always envisioned. I can’t wait for viewers to see the final chapter in Elena’s epic adventure.”
In the prime-time special titled Elena of Avalor: Coronation Day, as plans for Elena’s coronation are underway, Esteban’s team of villains unleash legendary spirit misfits, the Four Shades of Awesome. In order to save her kingdom, her family and her friends, Elena must journey to the Spirit World and back, and face the ultimate test of her courage and character, before becoming queen. Jenny Slate, Mark Hamill, Fred Armisen and Andy Garcia guest star as the Four Shades of Awesome and Patrick Warburton voices Grand Macaw, ruler of the dark side of the Spirit World.
The finale also features returning guest voice cast members Constance Marie, Lou Diamond Phillips, Jaime Camil, Justina Machado, Gina Rodriguez, Mario Lopez, Rachel Brosnahan, Tony Shalhoub, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, John Leguizamo, Cheech Marin, Whoopi Goldberg, Cloris Leachman, Chrissie Fit, Tyler Posey, Melissa Fumero, Stephanie Beatriz, Kether Donohue, Nestor Carbonell, Andrea Navedo, Eden Espinosa, Ana Ortiz, Gina Torres and Gaby Moreno, who also sings the series’ theme song.
The series stars Aimee Carrero as the voice of Princess Elena; Jenna Ortega as Princess Isabel; Chris Parnell, Yvette Nicole Brown and Carlos Alazraqui as jaquins Migs, Luna and Skylar, respectively; Emiliano Díez as Francisco; Julia Vera as Luisa; Christian Lanz as Chancellor Esteban; Jillian Rose Reed as Naomi; Joseph Haro as Mateo; Jorge Diaz as Gabe; Keith Ferguson as Zuzo; and Joe Nunez as Armando.”
What do you think? Are you or a member of your family a fan of the Elena of Avalor TV series? Are you sad to see it end?
I’m just finding out the show was canceled after my grand daugher and I kept wondering where it went. I’d like to know what the decision was based on as obviously it was great representation where there is little expressed. Of all shows, why cancel this one, she was an awesome role model for girls.
I’m a little sad to see and now that Elena Of Avalon is no longer a fun and action packed disney cartoon on the TV anymore, I loved watching the show when it still on the air, furthermore I also liked to watch the Christmas themed episode and the (Dia De a Los Muertos- Day of the dead episode) mainly because it was about remembering loved ones who are no longer with us and because I really think that it is a beautiful celebration with the music, singing, possible dancing, and the beautiful sugar skull outfits/costumes(plus I like skull stuff too-… Read more »
I can’t believe that they canceled it, it was such a good show and it showed Latino representation
This was a good move on Disney’s part. This show always felt like a forced spin-off from Sophia, designed only to check a ‘Latina princess’ box on Disney’s hyper-scrutinized demographic scoresheet (a contrived atonement for all the whiteness blondness and blue-eyes which came prior). Disney has now more than accomplished this. Back to some better quality programming, one hopes.
Please don’t cancel this show. My 7 year life girl loves Elena and we watch this on Disney every Saturday night.. Elena is a real good role model for all young girls across the world ..

I really like this show please don’t cancel it. I just started to see it and really love it. My grand daughters love it as well.
Please don’t cancel it Disney! We finally have a Latina lead character and it gets axed. Very disappointed!
I love this show please don’t cancel it . This is the best show I have ever seen in my life
My 7 year old niece and I are huge fans of of this show and we are both deviated that the show ended, we both would love to see see how Elena is holding up on her new roll as Queen, and what new adventures she will now face as Queen.
I am so sad that it’s getting over I cry all night just because of this… …. Pls pls continue…..its an amazing show my sis loves is and she and even though we don’t get along can see Elena of avalor sll day long
My granddaughter and I have been watching Elena and are very sad that it has been cancelled. She is sitting here slightly depressed on learning there will be no more. Not a good move on Disney’s part.
Our family is very sad to see this show ending. We have enjoyed having Family Sunday watching this season. My daughter loves Elena and the rest of the characters. Hope Disney will second think this one.
My daughter is 7 and loves Elena! She is so, so very sad it has ended. It’s a shame they are ending a serie that showcases such a hug culture. Little girls needs to not only see girl power but needs to see girl power that represents them. I hope Disney plans to do either some Special Elena events shows/short movies. Or plans to replace her with another Hispanic princess. We need this in today’s world!
Yes it is very sad to see Elena of Avelor end I am a grandmother and have enjoyed watching it from the very first espiode I don’t understand why Disney would want to end this show many Latina girls related to Elena and how she puts her family first I hope Disney continues to have Elena has a Disney princess Latina little girls need a princess of their own
I agree with Marisette. I enjoy watch Elena with my two little girls. For Disney to finally make a Latina Princess for my girls to look up to and now see this show go away, it isn’t fair. Latinas do not have a Disney Princess movie for the big screen so when they came up with a TV series Elena, we thought this was wonderful. But now they are taking it away. My daughters (ages 4 & 3) are really sad to see it go. I hope Disney changes it’s mind or plans to make Elena into a movie (or… Read more »
I 100% agree on this, it not fair that all other Disney Princesses get to have their own show/movie on Disney Channel and only one Latina Princess gets the back burner for the movie part of when being on Disney in the first place, I personally think that Disney should at least consider making a short show or even a mini movie like they did for Disneys Descendants after Cameron Boyce went home to the creator (god rest your soul, rest in peace man) at least they did that in his memory, so why can’t they do something like that… Read more »
