It seems Dorothy Gale will return to Kansas. NBC has cancelled the Emerald City TV show. There will be no season two. The fantasy drama starred Adria Arjona, Vincent D’Onofrio, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Ana Ularu, Mido Hamada, Gerran Howell, Jordan Loughran, and Joely Richardson.
As usual, it comes down to the ratings. The first season of Emerald City on NBC averaged a 0.72 rating in the 18-49 demographic and an audience of 3.02 million viewers. When you compare its ratings to those of other NBC TV shows, the cancellation is understandable.
Emerald City Cancellation Confirmed
While we have been anticipating the Emerald City TV show cancellation for a while, Variety confirmed it, last night.
Emerald City‘s yellow brick road to the airwaves was riddled with potholes. Production on The Land of Oz-inspired drama was supposed to begin in 2014. Although the network planned for a 2015 premiere, creative differences derailed the project.
The Peacock Network eventually reversed that decision. In April 2015, they brought on a new showrunner. Still, it seems they didn’t have much faith in Emerald City, since they scheduled it on Friday nights, and held the premiere until January 2017.
What do you think? Were you a fan of the Emerald City TV series? Should NBC have cancelled or renewed it for a second season? Let us know, below.
I am another viewer who is late in the game watching season 1, of Emerald City. The show wasn’t perfect, but It was intriguing, unique, and left you on the edge of your seat at times. I am very disappointed there will not be a season 2, as how will we ever know if the beast forever has been banished? I have hopes that hopefully an entity like Netflix or Amazon prime will pick up the show and make a season 2. Fingers crossed!!
Very disappointed there’s not a season 2
I’m very disappointed there’s not a season 2 this is very irritating this was one of the best shows I’ve watched starts out slow but it gets so good I really hope you guys change your mind and you make a season too I want to see what happens next it was so good this is crazy that you guys wouldn’t have a second season crazy
Really mad there isn’t a season 2. Not happy at all
Omg!! I actually just seen it and watched the whole season. I actually looked up when season two was coming out. Oh was I disappointed. I need the full story!!
I am very late to the game but I’m dying there is no season 2 of emerald City!!! Especially with how the first season ended. I think there should have been a lot more publicity for this show because it is a gem. I was instantly hooked and binged the whole thing and wishing there was more!!!
Please do another season
I am so mad there is no season two to Emerald City? So disappointed it was a great show I just finished the season and I’m shocked Brilliant show
Disappointed to find out Emerald city was cancelled after leaving the ending as the have. They could have at least made a movie to tie up the story. They knew it was cancelled before the last episode aired, it should have been finished properly.
Hopefully some other network picks it up and finishes it.
I LOVED Emerald City! I’m so upset that we’ll never know what happens next! How can they DO this to us? I have SO many questions. I just keep watching my DVD over and over
Emerald City Season 1 was amazing!!! I’m so sad there isn’t a second season to watch. So many other shows aired with many seasons that are not as creative. I hope NBC or another company will reconsider that decision.
I 1000% agree.
I am very disappointed in nbc. With COVID on right now there is nothing very entertaining to watch!! I found something worth my time and you cancel it!! Seriously bring it back for one more season if for nothing else than to tie up the loose ends with Dorothy and the beast forever. Please
Right?! They set us on this “yellow brick road” of characters and situations and QUESTIONS and…they just abandon us here.
It’s sad that the people who are responsible for continuing The Emerald City didn’t have more faith in the series. Wonderful actors and beautifully done. The story is a fresh twist on an old classic. I doubt they could pull all the same actors back at this point but they should definitely try!
