The ABC TV show about what happens in the future apparently doesn’t have one. FlashForward has been cancelled after one season.
FlashForward begins as the world’s population blacks out for 137 seconds and they “flash forward” to see visions of their lives six months in the future. The series’ ensemble cast includes Joseph Fiennes, John Cho, Jack Davenport, Zachary Knighton, Peyton List, Dominic Monaghan, Brian F. O’Byrne, Courtney B. Vance, Sonya Walger, and Christine Woods.
The series debuted in September and attracted a 4.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 12.47 million viewers. With a lot of buzz, it seemed like ABC had a hit. For week two, the ratings dropped to a still very respectable 3.7 and 10.73 million.
But then viewership just kept falling, hitting a low of a 2.1 in the key demo and just 7.1 million viewers. Then, ABC pulled the series for three months. The spin was that they would relaunch FlashForward after the Olympics.
The network gave the return a significant amount of promotion but it didn’t help. FlashForward’s ratings were even worse and they just kept dropping. They’ve gotten so bad that The CW has been beating them in the demo.
To no surprise, ABC has cancelled FlashForward after one season of 20 episodes. The series finale will air in two weeks, on May 27th.
What do you think? Did FlashForward deserve a second season? Could ABC have saved it? If given the chance, how would you wrap it up?

I have tried to form a petition for this awesome show and nothing seems to work. It states that there is one all ready. The network didn’t want the show at all, they have this idea that any good excellent show should be scrapped and the ratings were low. http://www.geos.tv does the ratings for new and old shows, ABC has a section for rating series as well. I’ve put in my vote to save it and have e-mailed and spoken to one of them. It’s a shame that ABC decided on this, if you really want your voice heard contact… Read more »
why didn’t yoy give it a chance. the one show my wife and i look forward to and haven’t missed an episode. what will you possibly replace it with? another mindless “who done it” episode of super cops looking for the redicilous killer with mindless actors with little or no story lines?. please give it another one season or two, your viewers will definately pick up. canceling it now makes no sense and all the money spent in producing the series up to now is a total loss. dosen’t this make sence? recoup your expenses and give it another chance… Read more »
Flashforward is a quality program. The network should realize this and reconsider the move to cancel this show. It’s hard enough to find any televised show worth watching as it is. Flashforward provides a valued drama, outlining sci-fi plot and well thought out dialog. It holds a promise to deliver a full season of entertainment. Failure to recognize the potential that this show already holds, will only lead to another Dud show, to fill its time spot on Primetime. A Bad move on ABC’s part and continued failure to recognize true quality programs in general.
Premature Endings to potential entertaining shows is shaping up to be a permanent standard among all networks. Flashforward is not a recycled storyline of any kind. All three networks are not doing their homework on what TV viewers already know and wish to see. All successful programs of the past contained a well placed cast, along with writers that produced a quality program. Directors and Producers were supported by Networks that invested in providing programming that was suitable, interesting and held a storyline. The high failure rate of primetime TV programming during the last decade and then some, indicates the… Read more »
Maybe if they put the show on at 9pm instead of 8 it would do better! I love the show but its on too early for me to watch so I DVR it!
I really loved this show. I got hooked as soon as i watched the first episode and I can’t believe that abc is cutting the show off. I understand that it cost lots of money to put a show together but abc could of tried other ways to see if that would of worked out better. Not just cancel it for 10 episodes and try agin. that was only one way. maybe they should of tried putting it at a diiferent time or on a different day of the week and that could of worked. I don’t think that abc… Read more »
Probably to be replaced by another dumb a** reality tv show…Yeah who does review these things for the ratings…two and 1/2 men get renewed for 2 seasons…do they think the audience what dumb downed tv shows…
Lets start a petition just like they did after family guy got cancelled….
I just don’t get it. Who’s rating these shows? Where are these Nelson rating devices used? I’ve never had one. Nor have any of the people I know. I’m very disappointed that another great show is biting the dust. I think that ABC, as well as other networks, need to change the way their shows are rated because the current system is not working.
Those A holes are forcing me to read the book now, This was a good show, not the greatest on TV but i watched it every week. The good ones always seem to go.
I’m really tired of these TV stations cancelling shows without giving them a chance. It’s very hard for us, the viewing audience, to really connect with a new show knowing that 9 times out of 10 it won’t be back another season. Flash Forward was interesting, had a good plot line and a terrific set of actors; yet, it’s being cancelled. I think I’m going to quit watching TV altogether; everything I like ends up cancelled!
My husband and I love this show. We DVR it to catch up on weekends. So being that we do not watch it on the day of airing, do we count as viewers.
I am so sad to hear this is cancelled.
Why would ABC cancel “Flash Forward”? Finally a show worth watching. Something to make you think, like reading a novel. Great acting. What is it being replaced with, another no-brainer sit-com? Come on ABC! I think I’ll go back to reading, at least if I get hooked, I can finish the book!!
I was so sorry to hear that the show was canceled. I thought it was a great series. I told a friend about it, and he didn’t find it that interesting, after seeing just one episode, well into the season. Perhaps one problem with the show was that you really had to see all the episodes to tie things together. That’s one of the many things I really liked.
I don’t hold out much hope, but I do hope they give it another try.
I love this show. Please keep it on
ABC is developing the same mentality of NBC. If someone has to think and/or pay attention to details during the show, it must die! Anyone remember Journeyman? A fantastic show that didn’t last long at all, and yet, NBC added Knight Rider! Stupidity all around.
Has anyone seen what is being put into Flash Forward’s time slot for this fall? Nothing anywhere near the same level of awesomeness as Flash Forward!
