The future of Flashpoint on CBS is still up in the air but Canadian viewers definitely have more episodes of the cop drama in their future.
Flashpoint is produced in Canada and CBS has licensed episodes since 2008 and used the show mostly as an off-season utility player. Last summer, CBS aired most of the episodes from season three but still had six installments left on the shelf. In January, the decision was made to license seven more episodes, combine them with the leftover six and run them as season four. They began airing in early May.
That left 11 episodes of the cop drama that weren’t being licensed by CBS. They are on track to be aired in Canada this summer.
CTV has now ordered a fifth season of 18 episodes. Flashpoint is the most-watched Canadian drama and has averaged more than 1.5 million viewers (an impressive number by Canadian TV standards). The new order will bring the series’ episode total to 80 installments, making it the longest-running original scripted series currently on Canadian television.
There’s been no word on whether CBS will license any more episodes or not but the ratings certainly haven’t been impressive. Thus far this season, Flashpoint’s been averaging just a 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.42 million total viewers. Per the early numbers, last night’s installment tied a repeat of Shark Tank in the demo.
On the other hand, the show doesn’t cost the network as much as producing their own scripted dramas.
Once the new episodes are filmed and completed, there will be 29 episodes that CBS hasn’t licensed. We’ll have to wait to see when or if American audiences will get a chance to see them.
What do you think? Are you glad to hear Flashpoint has been renewed? Should CBS license more episodes?

Love watching Flashpoint. Keep it going. Cant wait for season 5.
There are a few dozen of us at my office that LOVE Flashpoint. There is no consistancy on where and when it is playing.
Please let us know where and when to watch it and also when do they play new espisodes.
thank you
Flashpoint’s latest season was shown in the Fall 2011 season on ION Television at 10pm on Tuesday. It’s been renewed by ION for another season, so it’ll likely be a fall performer for them in 2012, too.
EXACTLY! That is probably the only reason ratings are low. IT’S MADDENING!
Flashpoint is the best show my husband and I watch together. The action, the stories, and especially the characters and emotional intensity are incomparable!
i love this show. please don’t take it off the U.S. airways!
I really like Flashpoint my friends and I watch it when it comes out every summer and enjoy it. We really hope that CBS continues to pick it up and do new episodes.
I am a fan of this show and every year have to wait to see if it will air again and where i might find it. Currently being shown on ION in our area. I am truly amazed that all networks seem to shy away from an excellent drama such as FLASHPOINT and continue to suport all of this “”reality crap”. It makes me wonder about the mindset of some of the viewing public. Apparently a lot of folks are out of the habit of “thinking” while watching TV including the network CEO’s. I hope they all don’t turn out… Read more »
Love the show, I’ve been watching episodes on the ion channel (3) since it hasn’t been on CBS.
Love Flashpoint! I didn’t start watching it until the 4th season, but then rarely missed an episode. Being an American, I too, miss seeing this truly fantastic program.
I have been hooked since the first episode! Please don’t stop airing on CBS! I look forward to every new episode!!
I watch this show on Netflix almost 24/7. Any free time I get, gets dedicated to this show. It’d be a heartbreaking shame to not see it come to America any longer. Let’s just hope it gets higher ratings.
Maybe peope are like me and didn’t even know this show existed until a few weeks ago. Now it only comes on here on Tuesday and Friday at different times. It comes on ION television. I cannot imagine for the life of me why someone would take this off in the US after once again getting a series that so many of us like. If you could buy them all on DVD and not some of them missing I would do that. This makes me sick. The next thing you knkow Criminal Minds will be gone.
Flashpoint has me hooked. I never watched before and then watched on Netflix and can’t stop watching. It would be an injustice to stop this show.
I started watching Flashpoint about two months ago, and I fell in love with all the characters and the story line, I hope they will continue to air this show. I look forward to Tuesday nights, and I plan on buying the seasons as soon as I figure out who sells them. Hey CBS, you have all the best of the crime shows, lets add Flashpoint to the list.
I really like Flashpoint. Honestly dont see how they can go by ratings because CBS was always changing days to air & having long breaks between air dates. Honestly it was hard to keep up with the show. If i hadnt had my DVR set to record it i wouldve missed alot more episodes. Also looked up episode guide & it showed aired dates & order they shouldve been aired & of course CBS played some of the episodes out of order. That will also bring ratings down because thats just another reason it makes the characters storylines tokeep up… Read more »
I just recently started watching Flashpoint and I love it. It has definitely moved into my top 10 favorite shows. I love the characters and because I use to live in Toronto it is nice seeing familiar places. I hope the show continues for a very long time.
I heartily agree with the previous comments. We’re older than the target demographics but we love this show! We vote for the show being renewed!!! Love the cast & the script writing…..awesome!!!
