ABC is still trying to fill that Tuesdays at 10pm timeslot. Many ABC shows have been given that timeslot and they’ve all been cancelled — Killer Women, Body of Proof and Lucky 7, to name just a few. So, how’s the new Forever TV show doing? Will it break the trend or be cancelled as well?
On the Forever TV show, New York City’s star medical examiner is Doctor Henry Morgan (Ioan Gruffudd). He can ascertain things that most can not because of his vast experience — he’s been alive for 200 years but can’t figure out how or why. The rest of the cast includes Alana de la Garza, Lorraine Toussaint, Donnie Keshawarz, Joel David Moore, and Judd Hirsch.
The series got off to an okay start, following the season premiere of Dancing with the Stars on a Monday night. It attracted a 1.7 rating with 8.59 million viewers. The following night, in its permanent timeslot, the demo rose slightly but viewership dropped.

In week two, the ratings tumbled to a 1.4 in the demo with 5.69 million. In week three, they fell even lower and last week’s installment hit new lows with a 1.1 demo rating and 4.81 million viewers.
Just four weeks into the season and this show is already in serious trouble. ABC needs a successful show to fill the Tuesdays at 10pm timeslot and it’s clear that Forever isn’t the answer to their prayers. It’s unlikely that they’ll order any installments beyond their initial 13 episode order.
Will all of the episodes air? I suspect that ABC will release the six remaining episodes — probably before the holidays. The network may find other programming to air in the Tuesdays at 10pm timeslot during at least some of November sweeps however.
Either way, unless there’s a miraculous turnaround in the ratings, Forever is as good as cancelled. It’s yet another TV show about an immortal that will see its life cut short.
But, what do you think? Do you like this show? Would you like to see Forever cancelled or renewed for a second season?
11/7 update: ABC has ordered nine additional episodes.
Great show!!!! I enjoy the ongoing twist
Forever is a great show, with fine potential. Please give it a chance. The cast is fantastic and the story-lines are imaginative, and thought provoking.
Love the show. I wish is was on at 9 instead as I work early AM and am usually too tired to watch TV until 11, but I TVR it and always watch the next day.
This show is thought provoking, and has truly limitless options. So many great dramas have been canceled, or are in their final season, and this show is the perfect fit to catch on with viewers who are reeling from those losses. Of course because the show is truly entertaining, and not just a rehashing of other programs with a different name attached, I am sure they will cancel it, or change it in some distorted attempt to “improve it”, costing the program everything that makes it worth watching. I don’t want to be pessimistic or whatever, but it seems to… Read more »
Bethany, great post ! Wish TPTB would start listening to us ! “Forever” has everything going for it to be a great series. Hopefully ABC will wake up and decide to renew it. Let’s stay hopeful.
PLEASE DONT CANCEL THIS SHOW IT IS ONE OF THE BEST SHOWS ON TV AT THE MOMENT AND THE LEAD CHARACTER AND ACTOR IS JUST AMAZING AND THE CHEMISTRY BETWEEN ALL THE CHARACTERS IS UNBELIEVABLE
I WOULD BE SO DEPRESSED IF THIS SHOW GOR CANCELLED
NO, please keep forever. Every week i waiting for it.
KEEP IT! This is my favorite show! I think it is on too late…it needs to be somewhere people won’t rely on DVR’s and where it won’t compete with other crime shows. Give it a chance! Replay episodes so people can get hooked from the beginning! They won’t be as invested if they don’t start with the pilot. Please ABC, don’t give up. You have a winner here. The viewers love it and we are the ones the advertisers are selling to. Invest in helping it succeed!
Why is every show that requires any intellectual power to enjoy the first of the season to be axed? They will probably fill the slot with a “Dumb and Dumber” spin off and save the day (and destroy our minds)
Keep it!!!Networks are to quick to judge and cancel. What about all of those that watch this in the delayed mode?, DVR, Primetime anytime, or like me, who watch it on ABC.com
Forever has quickly made it’s way to the top of my list of favorite tv shows (which doesn’t happen very often). Please Please Please don’t cancel it!! I need season 2!!
I really hope Forever doesn’t get cancelled. With Torchwood done and Sherlock still in the making, this is the closest I can get to my usual fix. This show is brilliant. There are probably other shows out there right now about super observant crime solvers, they’re not immortal like Doctor Henry Morgan. I would love to see whether or not we’ll be given an explanation to his immortality and since Abe is already so old, it will be a heartbreak to see him go or will there be a twist? And I agree with what Amy said, I’m sure it’s… Read more »
I love Forever! It’s very intriguing. I like how they don’t have him die in every episode as that would get old. It’s a mystery, crime, fantasyish show all in one. Keep keep keep!
Keep it please!
Love the characters – continue.
Please keep Forever! There is just too much competition from established shows. And from those of us that work, I barely have time to catch it on Hulu during the weekend! I love this show and I hate how networks don’t stand behind their new shows unless they are runaway successes. Isn’t it cheaper in the long run to keep a show and give it a shot than try to produce a whole new one? And it’s not like this show has a lot of bad reviews and lots of people complaining about it. Most of the reviews I have… Read more »
I agree with everything that Amy stated. Take the time to continue to invest in Forever. It’s different. It’s a nice change from reality shows. Everyone does an excellent job in their roles, respectively. Your network pays a lot of money for your marketing and advertising departments to promote your shows. Well, it’s time for the marketing and advertising departments to really earn their salaries. Get the word out to the masses and keep Forever on the air.
