ABC is still trying to fill that Tuesdays at 10pm timeslot. Many ABC shows have been given that timeslot and they’ve all been cancelled — Killer Women, Body of Proof and Lucky 7, to name just a few. So, how’s the new Forever TV show doing? Will it break the trend or be cancelled as well?
On the Forever TV show, New York City’s star medical examiner is Doctor Henry Morgan (Ioan Gruffudd). He can ascertain things that most can not because of his vast experience — he’s been alive for 200 years but can’t figure out how or why. The rest of the cast includes Alana de la Garza, Lorraine Toussaint, Donnie Keshawarz, Joel David Moore, and Judd Hirsch.
The series got off to an okay start, following the season premiere of Dancing with the Stars on a Monday night. It attracted a 1.7 rating with 8.59 million viewers. The following night, in its permanent timeslot, the demo rose slightly but viewership dropped.

In week two, the ratings tumbled to a 1.4 in the demo with 5.69 million. In week three, they fell even lower and last week’s installment hit new lows with a 1.1 demo rating and 4.81 million viewers.
Just four weeks into the season and this show is already in serious trouble. ABC needs a successful show to fill the Tuesdays at 10pm timeslot and it’s clear that Forever isn’t the answer to their prayers. It’s unlikely that they’ll order any installments beyond their initial 13 episode order.
Will all of the episodes air? I suspect that ABC will release the six remaining episodes — probably before the holidays. The network may find other programming to air in the Tuesdays at 10pm timeslot during at least some of November sweeps however.
Either way, unless there’s a miraculous turnaround in the ratings, Forever is as good as cancelled. It’s yet another TV show about an immortal that will see its life cut short.
But, what do you think? Do you like this show? Would you like to see Forever cancelled or renewed for a second season?
11/7 update: ABC has ordered nine additional episodes.
I’m 49 (soon to be 50), and this show is just about the only network show I watch. I watch DWTS, and that’s it. Everything else I watch is on cable. This show is different. It has suspense, action, intrigue, sexual chemistry, humor, a gorgeous Brit leading man (wink) and it makes you think. Please give it a chance to develop an audience before deciding to cancel it. MASH didn’t make it right out of the gate, either. Please stop being so myopic when it comes to the ratings. 10pm is late for some to be up during the weekday,… Read more »
I totally agree regarding the last hour of primetime (granted, here it’s 9 p.m.) I’m usually in bed by 9 as I’m up around 4:30 – 5:00. Last night was a fluke (wasn’t tired), so I watched it on TV. I loved the explanation for why he switched to M.E. I usually watch it on Hulu as soon as it is available as well as Resurrection & Sleepy Hollow (this week it’ll be because the Cowboys game was on at the same time).
This is the only show I watch now. I love this show. PLEASE don’t cancel it. It needs a decent time slot. With the Tuesday @ 10 slot, its like it was set up for failure! Change the time slot, keep the show!
This series has elements that much of TV is lacking these days: heroes who care, villains who are caught, and virtue in the face of painful past. The script is acceptable for kids under 18, the acting is appropriate for the characters who comprise a rather good ensemble. The hero’s flashbacks are very enjoyable because it goes into visual history…. something most people are clueless about! What’s not to love? Given the schlock that has been foisted on network TV over the years, ABC would be shooting itself in the foot (again!) by not continuing to develop this series because… Read more »
I LOVE this show! Don’t cancel it pleease!
I agree this show should not be cancelled. It is well written’ it is well acted; it has an intriguing premise and the presentation is top quality. This show deserves a long run and it will gain traction as more people get a chance to see and appreciate it.
I LOVE this show! It’s different than every other show on TV. It is fresh and I love the cast.
Keep this show
I hope the show survives. It is well cast, cleverly written and definitely family-rated, My wife and I very much enjoy it, and we would vote to continue it. However, we have a sinking feeling that there is not enough sex and gratuitous filth in the script to keep it alive. Prove us wrong!
Forever is well done and worth watching …. along with its quick paced angst, there is grace and style; history and romance …. it’s well thought out and well researched …
Leave this show on. This is the only good show worth watching on Tuesday night. My age 59, my husband 65,my brother 75. We are the are the age group that go out and buy things. our son is 26, he does not watch any t. v. shows neither do any of his friends, they in stead play video games. We will continue o watch forever and watch the commercials that support and pay for the show. We will call them if so or boycott your other more famous shows on wed, even though we like them I think you… Read more »
@Debra Marsall First of all I agree that this show is brilliant I love the show. Second of all I have to call B.S. on Your son at 26 not watching any TV nor any of their friends. I do know people around that age that don’t watch T.V. but it is more like we “no longer” watch T.V. in the traditional sense. We watch shows on Hulu and Netflix or “acquire” them instead of watching them through Comcast, Charter, AT&T, Xfinity what have you. I don’t say that to be mean just to point out the facts. If you… Read more »
I really like this show! How about another time slot? The actors are great. The writing is good. The chemistry is excellent! What is there not to like about this show?–yes, perhaps a earlier time slot on another night?
Best new show…. fresh, pick it up for a full season and see how it does. I love it There are so many directions and story lines that have potential here. Please do not play the time/day slot shuffle on it like you have one every decent show you have put in this slot. 4 to 5 million is a lot of viewers… our population is getting older take the people who stay at home or stream into account before losing millions of viewers. The younger generations do not watch anything that does not consist of drugs, violence, sex, or… Read more »
Oh, Tweety, I LOVE you ! I’m 72 and echo your sentiments. Too much importance is given to their ‘precious’ 18-49 demographic. These sponsors better wake up and realize it’s we OLDER folks who still have a lot of buying power and, in many cases, have more money than some of the younger ones. We also have more time to sit back and enjoy their shows, unlike the whirlwind lifestyles of the ‘Young and Restless’. Many more of us have age-related health problems that prevent us from being more active. Watching TV is the major entertainment for many of us.… Read more »
It’s worth keeping. Certainly better than situation comedy and as far as dramas go, it’s not the same old tired ideas.
Great show, great cast, ec ellent chemistry and lots of story that can be told, he’s over 200 years old. Please give this the back 9. You haven’t had a show do this well at 10 pm on Tuesday in years!
I read the book a couple of years ago; it was excellent, although a little different plot from the tv show of the same name. I absolutely loved the book, and I feel the same about the show. I love the characters and the story lines. I look forward to watching it every Tuesday night and would be disappointed if it was cancelled.
Wait….wait…wait There is a book? What is it? I need it! Since this show is doomed this is probably the only way I will get to experience the end of the story!
GEORGE!! Thos show is NOT based on a book! There is a book called Forever that is being made into a movie…and Ioan Gruffudd is in it….
We need this show! It’s entertaining, original and fun ♡♡♡♡ it please keep!
