Forever didn’t last forever, but you can now own the cancelled ABC series on DVD. The complete first season was released on DVD today.
Forever was cancelled in May after only one season.
The DVD includes all 22 episodes of the series, which starred Ioan Gruffudd as Dr. Henry Morgan, an NYC medical examiner that’s been alive for 200 years. Extras include never-before-seen deleted scenes. It can be purchased from Amazon here.
From series creator Matthew Miller:
We’re so proud of this series and the way it resonated with fans. I’m excited for the fans that we’re not only able to release all 22 episodes on DVD, but include previously unseen footage. It’s another chance to breathe new life into the show for both devoted fans and new viewers.”

Once again, Warner Archive Collection rewards fan loyalty with the release of a much-beloved series –Forever: The Complete Series comes to DVD on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 via WBshop.com and popular online retailers.
Fresh off its single-season run on ABC in 2014-2015, Forever: The Complete Series includes all 22 episodes as well as additional never-before-seen deleted scenes from many of the episodes on a 5-disc DVD set. Creator and Executive Producer Matthew Miller (Chuck, Human Target, The 100) is thrilled the series will live on through its DVD release.
“We’re so proud of this series and the way it resonated with fans,” Miller says. “I’m excited for the fans that we’re not only able to release all 22 episodes on DVD, but include previously unseen footage. It’s another chance to breathe new life into the show for both devoted fans and new viewers.”
The series’ premise struck an instant chord with fans: What would you do if you had all the time in the world? The otherworldly drama – from Miller and fellow executive producers Dan Lin (Sherlock Holmes) and Jennifer Gwartz (Veronica Mars) – follows Dr. Henry Morgan (Ioan Gruffudd), a star New York City medical examiner, on his journey to answer that looming question.
Henry has a vested interest in studying the dead: He is immortal, and only his best friend and confidant, Abe (Judd Hirsch) – full of life at age 75 – knows Henry’s secret. Henry hasn’t aged at all since the clock stopped 200 years ago, but he’s managed to be discreet without anyone finding out his affliction. That task becomes increasingly difficult when he meets NYPD detective Jo Martinez (Alana De La Garza), who is fascinated by Henry after learning he was the sole survivor of a horrific train crash – and his knowledge proves extremely helpful to her in solving crimes.
“This series is about a character who is immortal, and to that point the show never ends – it never dies,” Miller says. “Given the incredible fan support we’ve received, I feel like that’s true. The fans have not stopped for a minute. They host live Twitter events and have created fan fiction, online graphic novels, you name it. Social media and the release of the full-series DVD continue to make this show immortal.”
Beyond Gruffudd (Fantastic Four, San Andreas), De La Garza (Law & Order, upcoming Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders) and Emmy Award winner Hirsh (Taxi, Ordinary People, Independence Day), the main cast of Forever features Lorraine Toussaint (Rosewood, Orange Is The New Black), Joel David Moore (Bones, Avatar, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story) and Donnie Keshawarz (24, The Sopranos, Damages).
The guest cast is filled with award-winning acting talent, most notably Academy Award winner Cuba Gooding Jr. (American Crime Story: The People vs. O.J. Simpson, Jerry Maguire), two-time Emmy Award winner Jane Alexander (Warm Springs, All The President’s Men), and Emmy & Golden Globe Award winner Jane Seymour (Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, Wedding Crashers, Live And Let Die). Fan favorites populate the guest cast, as well, including John Noble (Fringe, The Lord of the Rings), Emily Kinney (The Walking Dead), Roger Rees (Cheers, The West Wing, M.A.N.T.I.S.), Blair Brown (Fringe, Limitless, Orange Is The New Black), David Krumholtz (Numb3rs, Serenity), James McCaffrey (Rescue Me), Lee Tergesen (Defiance, Longmire, Oz), Don McManus (Justified, Mom), William Baldwin (Backdraft, Flatliners), Mackenzie Mauzy (Into The Woods, The Bold and the Beautiful), Hilarie Burton (One Tree Hill, White Collar), Shamika Cotton (The Wire) and Burn Gorman (Torchwood, Game of Thrones, The Dark Knight Rises).”
What do you think? Did you watch Forever when it aired? Will you buy the DVD?
I love this show. They had me at the edge of my seat each and every week. #FOREVER is a well written beautiful show for the whole family. I couldn’t wait until Tuesday night to watch. Now there’s nothing on .ABC really dropped the ball on this show. it’s a diamond in the rough getting better and better. They never gave it a chance to grow. I will buy my DVD and play it over and over again. I love it and miss it so much. I need a good dose of Joe and doctor Henry Morgan and his beautifully… Read more »
Another great show cancelled way too soon! I question their decision-making skills. At least I will have the DVD. Perhaps someone with vision can pick up the show and run with it. Hard to emotionally invest in these new shows nowadays, when we can be pretty sure they’re going to cut them off at the knees and break our hearts… *sigh* :'(
i enjoyed the show they should have had more seasons
IF YOU BUY THIS DVD SET YOU’RE IN FOR A PLEASANT SURPRISE! Forever perfectly combines charismatic characters, intelligent storyline, honest emotions and a dash of humour. Combining a weekly murder investigation with historic flashbacks and a scifi twist seems almost impossible but superior writing and superb acting has proven that it most certainly is. It has made this show stand out like no other. Casting Ioan Gruffudd as the main character was definitely a stroke of genius. Dr Henry Morgan could easily have been perceived as weird, arrogant, cut off from his emotions and – let’s face it – a… Read more »
You can buy the series on VUDU now as well. Actually I am also going to buy the DVDs as well so I can play them on my tread mill
The best show for the 2014-2015 season. We were so dissapointed with the cancellation. I contacted Netflix to see if they might pick the show up but got the brush off. Go figure
I’m getting so tired of networks cancelling shows after one season, leaving cliffhanger endings, and then expecting the public to buy the series on DVD. Are you kidding me? Why in the world would I buy DVDs of a series that went nowhere? Even if I love the show, if it’s my favorite show in the history of TV, I’m not forking over money for no resolution. The money-grubbing in this industry makes me want to quit watching any new show until it’s been on for 5 or more seasons. Which, in essence, would mean I’d never watch anything new… Read more »
It had some of everything for everyone. My family loved it. Hard to explain to them why they replaced it with some of the horrible shows that came after. I want to Thank Matt for giving us what we came to love. I felt like I got stabbed in the chest when they said it was cancelled. Felt like I lost a friend. Everyone is soooooo hoping someone wants to give the fans their show back.
Loved the show. Could not wait for the dvd set to come out so I bought the online complete set from Amazon as soon as it was available. So sad they leave such crappy shows on tv and take off one that was amazing.
I think it could be even better if Warner Brothers brought back Forever… Forever It’s such a fabulous show that never got promoted properly & a lot of overseas viewers, came to it late, after ABC had already decided not to renew… With all the crap that’s being shown on TV these days, Forever was a refreshing change of pace… With intelligent, well written stories, you were drawn into another world with Dr Henry Morgan & Abe… With every episode, you wanted to find out more about their intriguing relationship, what brought them together & the woman (Abigail) that was… Read more »
Why would I reward ABC with my dollars for cancelling this excellent series? They didn’t have faith in the show or care about the millions of loyal fans, but they won’t miss a chance to squeeze more money from it, will they? Greedy ********.
Yes,I watched the whole season. It was the BEST new show on TV! ABC was short-sighted cancelling this. I have already ordered the DVD and as much as I would love to see the stories that were introduced play out in continuing seasons, I will still enjoy the show for all the same reasons I watched it to begin with. It was creative ,intriguing, sophisticated and visually appealing from the cast, to the costumes, to the scenery. The cases were off-beat enough to hold your attention and the flash backs of Henry’s life were a fresh twist of details. I guess… Read more »
As much as we enjoyed the series and the remarkable cast members and guest actors, we will not purchase the DVDs because we will not help ABC make a dime when they so callously cancelled a gem. We realized that it is only about money when it comes to the network and the cancellation decision on their programming folks. Surely if it were about quality, programs like Forever would enjoy a long run. Finally, we believe that another network would benefit from bringing this series back. I suggest a marathon of season 1 leading into the new season. Regardless, we… Read more »
the only way i would purchase the dvd series is if they had a proper ending.
I am very tired of the networks cancelling shows with no endings!!! Loved & miss Forever; wish an other network would pick it up. 🙁
I wish another network would pick it up
