Doctor Henry Morgan may be immortal but his TV show isn’t. ABC has cancelled the Forever TV series after one season of 22 episodes.
On the Forever TV show, New York City’s star medical examiner (Ioan Gruffudd) can ascertain things that most can not because of his vast experience — he’s been alive for 200 years but can’t figure out the how or the why. The rest of the cast includes Alana de la Garza, Lorraine Toussaint, Donnie Keshawarz, Joel David Moore, and Judd Hirsch.
The series debuted last September to a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 8.26 million viewers. The ratings grew for episode two but they started falling after that.
Though the Forever series had some very passionate fans, that devotion didn’t translate into positive ratings. The numbers were pretty poor for much of the season and the show ended up averaging a 1.12 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.93 million viewers.
As a result, ABC has decided against ordering a second season of Forever. The last episode aired earlier this week and unfortunately left viewers with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Did you like the Forever TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a second season? Why do you think it didn’t catch on with a larger audience?
My wife and i enjoyed the show. it was well written and we thought had great potential it is unfortunate that abc was so quick on the trigger. we watch several bbc programs that hold our interest also.
i really love the show but work graveyard and im at work when its being air so i have to wait till its on ondemand i have timewarner cable i waited for every episode so be there. Im sad that there wont be a second season. Im pretty sure a lot of people had the same issue were working or had something to do during the air hour and waited till it was uploaded on there cable channel , like on demand for example. 🙁
How come every time they put an excellent show on tv it always gets cancelled? My mom and I really enjoyed Forever and we were looking forward to a second season. The way they left the story in the last episode I thought for sure you were going to bring it back for a second season. I looked forward to every Tuesday night when Forever aired and now you are not bringing it back, SHAME ON YOU!!!! They put such garbage with reality shows that is it getting old and they do not hold a candle to Forever. I say… Read more »
Agree with the other 1,400 or so posters!! This was a GREAT show! Why didn’t ABC just move it to a dif time slot?
Toy finally came up with an interesting, well acted series that pulled me away from cable, and now you cancel it? Bad decision
Maybe the demographics ought to cover the “baby boomers”! My age was not in that list, wtf? Wishing the show is picked up for season two! And I wonder, are recorded programs counted as watched? These days most of my favorite shows are recorded.
I really enjoyed this show. It is very unique and there’s no other show to replace it with. I’m very sad that they decided to cancel it. It is really a shame.
Really really saddened by this news also, my husband and I also watched it, we recorded every episode, and watched them together as we don’t like cliff hangers and get so desperate to watch the next. We feel like many on here. It’s so hard to find great TV shows and and actors/actresses worked so well together here all so very talented. Again I’m not in to all this reality TV it’s bull, people getting famous for making falls of themselves in a house etc. not my bag! Give my Forever any day of the week! Bring it back please!
Bring back doctor Morgan NOW!!!!!!!!!!
I like the show because it was different. I liked the characters.
I liked the chemistry between all of the characters. Every time there’s an actual entertaining show, it gets cancelled a replaced by more “reality” garbage…..which I don’t care for at all.
It’s very rare to find good TV shows nowadays and this was one of the best I’ve seen in a while. Realizing that it was cancelled left me very disappointed as it was a very well done show. Majority of the comments about this conclusion seem to be negative, showing that the show turned out to be a great success and had a lot of viewers for just one season. I believe it is impossible to decide whether a one season show can proceed after just one month. Only a few people got rate and comment on the show when… Read more »
Really bummed! Every time i find a really good t.v. series it ends up getting canceled. You cant cancel after one season. The first season is always a “build up”. Its like reading a book! Please bring it back, along with Backstrom, Flash Forward!!
My husband and I do enjoy this show we haves watched so many that gets cancelled after the first season. It is a bummer! About ready to call it quits, I really don’t understand ratings but we record a lot and watch at our convenience. Does that count?
I really enjoyed the Forever series and am very disappointed that it is now over… I wish there were something I could do to keep it up and running but that’s just the way the cookie crumbles I suppose…
There are 2 things you can do: 1) Keep applying pressure to ABC to bring it back, & 2) Contact other stations via email forms on their sites to pick up Forever and add it to their schedule. There are many other stations to choose from, so the odds of someone claiming it are good. You just have to keep at it.
ABC seems to have made up their minds, because the show is not produced by their studio. Pressure should be applied to Warner Brothers, the producer of the show, so they will see the value of shopping it around to other networks. Also, there is a petition that is being presented to Warner Brothers that you can quickly sign. Nearly 75,000 signers already!!! My wife and I are very disappointed you cancelled Forever. We looked forward to the show each week. We certainly hope you’re reconsidering this atrocity.
This show was very well done. The premise was interesting and compelling. Great idea to incorporate the immortal aspect with the mystery detective work. There are very few current television shows that myself and my family enjoy. We often missed the original airing of some of the shows because we couldn’t remember what day, time and channel but were so disappointed we would be sure to watch the missed shows on demand. I am extremely disappointed this show was cancelled. I guess I will have more time for reading or doing dishes.
