The Foyle’s War TV show on ITV was cancelled after eight seasons, because of rising production costs. Creator Anthony Horowitz tells Digital Spy he was ready for the British detective drama series to end. In the US, some seasons of Foyle’s War aired on PBS. The complete Foyle’s War TV series is available for streaming on Acorn.TV (but Acorn‘s series numbering is confusing).
Foyle’s War is set during and after World War II, with the eighth and final season set in 1947. Michael Kitchen stars as detective Christopher Foyle. The Doyle’s War TV series cast also includes: Honeysuckle Weeks, Ellie Haddington, Tim McMullan, Daniel Weyman, Jeremy Swift, Rupert Vansittart, and Hermione Gulliford.
From Digital Spy:
“I’ve written 26* two-hour films for that show,” [Horowitz] said. “17 years of my life have been devoted to Foyle’s War.
“It had to come to an end sometime. We went from 1940 all the way through to 1947 – and I told countless true stories about the war. I felt that there were no more true stories to tell about that period, I’d sort of covered pretty much every area.
“I’m sad to see it gone, but it’s still out there and people are still watching it. That’s one of the wonders of the digital age.”
*The complete Foyle’s War TV series episode count is 28.
What do you think? Are you a fan of the Foyle’s War TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed?
I’ve have just watched the final final episode for the second time and am newly bereft. Bereft (webster): a) deprived or robbed of the possession or use of something b) lacking something needed, wanted, or expected c) suffering the death of a loved one
Still miss Foyle’s War @! Please bring it back……
Foyle’s war was a truly fantastic series — I thoroughly enjoy every episode I was privileged to see! I loved it!
It was, indeed, one of the very best series PBS offered!
Please bring it back!!
The actors are perfect for their parts. Have followed it for years. What I love, also, is not all the petty SEX acts not shown here. The show is matual, well written, well acted, and realist! I shall miss it!!
Having only discovered Foyle’s War recently, I just watched the last episode and I won’t lie, I’m in tears. This is an excellent series and I’ll miss it.
This is one of the best series on Tv. I was born in 1947 so was raised on stories my folks told me of living in London during the war – the writing and incredible acting give substance to those stories. Please don’t cancel this series- I’ve introduced so many of my friends and family in California to Foyle’s War and they feel the same way too!!!
Please bring the series back
As a Brit, who lived in and around the areas where Foyles War was set, I can assure Mr Horowitz there were plenty of other stories about WWII to tell. Although I wasn’t ‘around’ at the time, I arrived shortly afterwards and my parents, uncles & aunts & other family friends had many stories to tell. It would be difficult to go back in time, unless Chief Super Det walks out of a shower to find himself in 1940 again, as a previous writer mentions, The Cold War went on for a long time. I do hope you reconsider, Folye’s… Read more »
I recently discovered Foyle’s War on Netflix and I am through season 6. I love this show and its creator, cast and crew are to be commended for their outstanding work. Michael Kitchen is superb in his portrayal of DCS Foyle.
Please consider bringing back Foyles War, you can take it into the early 50’s, there is plenty of Cold War stories and narratives to explore. And considering the current charged political climate in Britain, the US, Russia, I think you would have a lot of interesting parallels to explore.
Please please bring back Foyle’s War! It’s one of the best written shows ever! Nothing compares to it.
Save the show!! I’m a big fan from USA!!
#savesam!!!
#keepchiefinspectorFoyle!!!!!!!
Avid van….. love these shows! Hope someone will save it. It is very popular in the statea. We are praying some brilliant and smart executives see that much more could be made and done very well with such a talented cast and talented writers. History is full of political intrigue around the world in the post war years. We want the Ssga to continue. Would love to see them travel the world!
Outstanding production. I’m an American that lived as a youngster in England. Great show, wish everyone could see them in USA.
