Perhaps because ABC owns General Hospital outright, the network sometimes doesn’t announce if their sole surviving soap opera has been renewed for another season. (They didn’t make an announcement about the 2016-17 season.) Of course, they’d certainly let us know if the show had been cancelled. Will GH survive to see a 55th season (2017-18)? How will it do in the ratings? Stay tuned.
Debuting on April 1st of 1963, General Hospital revolves around the loves, lives, and deaths of the people of Port Charles, New York. The current season’s cast includes Vinessa Antoine, Maurice Benard, Teresa Castillo, Tyler Christopher, Matt Cohen, William deVry, Chad Duell, Sonya Eddy, Jane Elliot, Kathleen Gati, Nancy Lee Grahn, Carolyn Hennesy, Rebecca Herbst, Roger Howarth, Finola Hughes, Lisa Lo Cicero, Billy Miller, Kelly Monaco, Ryan Paevey, Haley Pullos, Brytni Sarpy, Kirsten Storms, Robert Palmer Watkins, Maura West, Laura Wright, and Dominic Zamprogna.

What do you think? Do you still like General Hospital TV series? Would you like to see it cancelled or renewed for additional seasons?
There are so many crappy talk shows taking the place of daytime drama. I have enjoyed GH for years. Please please don’t cancel General Hospital.
Please do not cancel General Hospital. I thought it was a big mistake to cancel All my Children and One Life to Live. Canceling GH would be a huge mistake. Not only are the stories original and iconic. The cast is amazing especially the well established characters. Luke & Laura are not only part of soap opera history but also part of pop culture. Sam & Jason are also an amazing couple with such a long history and now that Steve Burton has returned to reprise his original role GH is better then evet.
No other genre has survived this long on television! I think the soaps deserve Our respect! Day time actors and actresses are the best! Writers too from the metro court explosion to two Jason’s GH rocks! Congrats writers producers camera people actors etc everyone at gh can be very proud of this past week! Way to go! I know The ratings system is standard of practice but it’s not accurate w all the ways to watch it’s amazing how Facebook is swamped w all reactions to this week on GH thanks to all for quality entertainment. We fans feel like… Read more »
Please keep General Hospital. It is the only soap I am currently watching (After years of also being a fan/watcher of all the network soaps). One reason why ridership may have declined? News briefings/:breaking news” I terrupts this soaps broadcast time in the eastern time zone. People get frustrated when they can’t view a full episode due to presidential/network “news” that needn’t be covered at those times. REAL news is always worthy of interrupting normal broadcasts.
I wonder what the execs at ABC think about their move to fire Ron Carlivati a few years ago when ratings were better than what the new crew has delivered? I think it’s such a shame that they ever fired him because the show was sooooooooo much better then. The new writers do not deliver the same excitement, humor, and intrigue that Carlivati did and the ratings have fallen well below what they were under his excellent storytelling. Who cares if Anthony Geary didn’t like him–not me.
Been watching gh since 8 years old in 1984. Please keep it on. No soap tops gh in talent and storylines
5 years ago they cancelled the wrong show. Put Old Yeller out back and bring back OLTL
I’m a guy and I’ve watched General since 1977, Please keep it going. It’s such a great show.
