TV show description:
Based on a British comedy of the same name, this series is set in Long Beach, California, at the Billy Barnes Extended Care Unit of Mt. Palms Hospital. The staff attends to the needs of female patients who are often “getting on” in years — while also dealing with the challenges of a health-care bureaucracy that’s in need of an overhaul.
Even as they attempt to serve their charges under less-than-ideal circumstances, the lives of the ragtag crew are complicated by conflicting agendas, both professional and personal.
Doctor Jenna James (Laurie Metcalf) is the director of medicine. She once hoped to become a medical-research star, but has instead been sentenced to purgatory at the facility. Head nurse Dawn Forchette (Alex Borstein) has many personal shortcomings and an obsession with finding a boyfriend. Both undermine her need to excel in her job.
Nurse Denise “DiDi” Ortley (Niecy Nash) has an easy rapport with the patients and should be an example to her superiors but she isn’t. And Patsy De La Serda (Mel Rodriguez) is a new supervising nurse of ambiguous sexuality.
Episode #18 — Reduced to Eating Boiled Magazines and Book Paste
As the staff attempts to stave off the closure of Billy Barnes, DiDi takes to the picket lines in a last-ditch effort. Jenna tries to weasel her way out of a hastily made offer. Patsy is intrigued by Margueritte’s revelation during a secret-sharing session. After a ruse is exposed, Dawn inadvertently sets in motion a chaotic chain of events that seals the fate of the ward.
First aired: December 13, 2015
What do you think? Do you like the Getting On TV series? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season?
BRING IT BACK !! I subscribed to HBO now just so I could watch this show! I Love it & think it needs come back for season 4 . Please! Someone help !!
Should never have been cancelled I agree netflix please come to the rescue
Love this show! WHY is this great drama/comedy not coming back? I subscribed to HBO just to watch this wonderful series.
I just found out….omg…ANOTHER well done TV Show that gets cancelled….makes me mad… I just loved this show
As a health care professional, I LOVED this show and generally HATE other hospital/ medical shows. This one nails it.
In 10-20 years this show will be remade or restarted due to cult following. I realize that I don’t like watching shows on channels that are constantly starting new shows and cancelling them. Reliability and integrity of a station does count when I’m deciding on new shows to watch.
I love this show so much!!, Please bring it back!
great show, I’m absolutely going to miss it….
I loved this show, the best. Brilliant cast, Laurie metcalf is so talented- finally a show that she stars in. So very disappointed this show was cancelled.
I want Season 4…..
Best show on TV…. Why cancel? I’m SO disappointed !
As a fellow healthcare provider, I found this show to be accurate in some terms of an acute long term care unit…I loved the chemistry of each cast member…all hilarious and barely keeping Billy Barnes afloat…although they always won the day…..Please…Please don’t cancel this show! It is a wonderful Hit…..I have watched it repeatedly and never cease to laugh again at the same jokes. The writers and cast are original, quirky and lovable….Bring Getting on Back to TV!
Best show on TV. HBO needs to bring it back!!
Great show, sucks that HBO canceled Getting On. HBO is outta touch, one of the reasons they’re losing business.
Just watched the last episode of Getting On. Fantastic writing and spectacular performances from all the actors. I’m a fan of great women comedians like Carol Burnett and Madeline Kahn. The women on this show are in the same league. So disappointed to see the show end. Bring it back…please
I agree completely. Such a great combination of actors great comedy
Just found out Getting On is canceled. Why do they cancel the good-thought provoking shows? Dealing with death can be difficult but this show did it with a caring staff and humor. Do NOT Cancel, Bring it Back!
