TV show description:
Based on a British comedy of the same name, this series is set in Long Beach, California, at the Billy Barnes Extended Care Unit of Mt. Palms Hospital. The staff attends to the needs of female patients who are often “getting on” in years — while also dealing with the challenges of a health-care bureaucracy that’s in need of an overhaul.
Even as they attempt to serve their charges under less-than-ideal circumstances, the lives of the ragtag crew are complicated by conflicting agendas, both professional and personal.
Doctor Jenna James (Laurie Metcalf) is the director of medicine. She once hoped to become a medical-research star, but has instead been sentenced to purgatory at the facility. Head nurse Dawn Forchette (Alex Borstein) has many personal shortcomings and an obsession with finding a boyfriend. Both undermine her need to excel in her job.
Nurse Denise “DiDi” Ortley (Niecy Nash) has an easy rapport with the patients and should be an example to her superiors but she isn’t. And Patsy De La Serda (Mel Rodriguez) is a new supervising nurse of ambiguous sexuality.
Episode #18 — Reduced to Eating Boiled Magazines and Book Paste
As the staff attempts to stave off the closure of Billy Barnes, DiDi takes to the picket lines in a last-ditch effort. Jenna tries to weasel her way out of a hastily made offer. Patsy is intrigued by Margueritte’s revelation during a secret-sharing session. After a ruse is exposed, Dawn inadvertently sets in motion a chaotic chain of events that seals the fate of the ward.
First aired: December 13, 2015
What do you think? Do you like the Getting On TV series? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season?
Why was the show cancelled? The comedy was brilliant. Never fails, finally find something to look forward to and it gets cancelled
This show was a really awesome highlight. It improved on the original BBC series. I was really sad to see hbo cancel it. Can we demand that they bring it back?
I watched this series after it was canceled. I found the series at the library. As a retired nurse I found it hilarious and the closest to what really goes on in these skilled care units. Not to the extreme but pretty close.I am on my third rewatch.
I absolutly love this show I was laughing so hard. Please make another season all my friends was laughing so hard
I started watching this show kind of late but finished all three seasons. I love this show. In particular I love all of the characters and how supperbally they all gel together. The show is everything, it’s: heartwarming thrilling, hilarious, and smart all rolled into one. I am hoping the show continues forever.
Excellent show, should never have been cancelled

I would like to see this series continued. I am an RN in a hospital and so much of this is true to life. I love the show. Well written and well cast .
i just finished watching all 3 seasons and I can not believe this show was cancelled!! Every episode had me laughing so hysterically. The actors and writing on this show were absolutely amazing. Who ever made the decision to cancel this one was out of their mind!
Great show! Please don’t cancel!
I am really sad this show will not have any more seasons. As an RN, I found it very humorous and also very human. Really bummed.
1 LOVE this show! Really wish they would do more seasons!
I truly loved this show. As an RPN myself, This show made be laugh out loud, and even cry at times. It’s a shame that it is cancelled. The writing was clever. The actors were fabulous! It’s really too bad that a show this great gets cancelled while there are so many tasteless shows being renewed.
The funniest most clever show I have ever seen Who ever was the decision maker on canceling show really didn’t know how great this show was.
Really good show. Big mistake cancelling.
This was one few shows with intelligent comedy. The writing, acting was superb,
