It was a little bit of a surprise that Ghost Whisperer was cancelled by CBS earlier this week. While the show’s ratings have dropped significantly this season, many reported that the TV show was on track for season six. Well, CBS may have cancelled it but the TV show could still continue on ABC.
Ghost Whisperer follows Melinda Gordon (Jennifer Love Hewitt), a young woman who has the ability to see, talk to, and help the dead. Series regulars have included David Conrad, Camryn Manheim, Jay Mohr, Aisha Tyler, Christoph Sanders, Jamie Kennedy, and Kenneth Mitchell.
With the current ratings, Ghost Whisperer wouldn’t ordinarily be of interest to ABC. However, the network co-owns the show with CBS and actually handles the production in-house. They actually developed the series before CBS picked it up back in 2005. If the price is right, ABC would stand to make more money from season six episodes once they hit syndication.

According to Deadline, negotiations for Ghost Whisperer possibly moving to ABC started on Tuesday afternoon and are still in motion. Word is that they are going well though there are a number of points to work out.
It’s positive that the showrunner for next season is already in place and producers have signed on. That means that the show is ready to go back into production. The Ghost Whisperer writing staff have all been asked not to take other jobs until a final decision is made.
For now, people are being cautiously optimistic. Deals like this have fallen apart at the last minute before but things are reportedly looking good. We’ll obviously keep you posted.
What do you think? Will a deal be made so that Ghost Whisperer can continue for year six on ABC? If that were to happen, when would you like to see it air — on Friday nights or in another spot?

I love this show, I was 6 when it first started and I have watched it ever since. I used to sit in the chair with my great grandma and watch it every week, then I had to move to my own chair. But that is a favorite memory, and my great grandpa gets me the seasons video every year for Christmas. Whatever will he get me next year if there is no season 6?
Pardon my previous tirade, but it is upsetting to lose a favorite program. ABC will be up for redemption if they get GW. C BS should rethink this but if they don’t I am moving to ABC.
GW is a favorite program of our family. Are the decision-makers nuts? It’s an excellent program. Soon it will be CBS that will enjoy the same ridicule ABC got for the Leno fiasco. Did CBS hire those morons?
Ghost Whisperer is a great show and still has lots of life left!
PLEASE ABC..PICK UP THIS SHOW!
I would follow the show to ABC if they pick it up..it is a real favorite of mine, and loyal fans deserved more than what CBS did..that was a dirty trick, and they will pay the price..i am boycotting CBS next season..every night! If ABC picks up Ghost Whisperer..i will watch ABC every night of the week!
Please keep this show going!!!!, ive watched every season and enjoy watching it every Friday . It’s something I look forward to watching after a long day of work and in my opinion has never lost its edge. Love the suspense, mistery and the message it sends on a weekly basis.if this show is canceled all together, it will be a great disappointment to myself and others.please ancient, pick this show up! !!!!
Ratings dropped because the show became “silly”. First Jim dies , then transmigrates then he’s a doctor, and Aidan is 5 and sees shiny things. It really tested suspension of disbelief .
I COMPLETELY AGREE. THIS SHOW HAS BEEN MY FAVORITE SINCE THE FIRST SEASON AND I DON’T WANT IT TO END. THEY BETTER RENEW IT. I ALSO WATCH COLD CASE AND THAT SUCKS AS WELL!!!!!!
I’m glad it got cancelled. After they killed off Melindas friend Andrea, probably because she was prettier than Jennifer, it has been on a steady decline. Then they switched Ned’s mid season and really started to seem desperate. Then there was that whole Jim/Sam fiasco, If Jim’s body died then why the hell do we still see it? And now they have that creepy kid!! If ABC does pick this up I hope they get rid of the creepy kid and Jamie Kennedy. Go back to the way it was before Melinda had to have a male side kick, and… Read more »
I think the problem is that a lot of people are opting to watch tv shows online now (no commercials). It doesn’t mean that the show has become unpopular it just means that people aren’t watching tv as much.
CBS didn’t have the nerve to call it the SERIES finale, it still advertised it as the SEASON finale. Let ABC have it and yes, please let the Jim/Sam thing be some horrible dream and go back to where it was before that happened. It would be awesome. CBS doesn’t deserve the show if they are stupid enough to cancel it.
I think ABC should take it over and leave it on Friday nights.
They should start off with Melinda at home, a year after losing her child during the birth.
Bring back Jay Mohr , get rid of Eli,and send Ned away to college.
LOVE the show!!! It makes my Friday nights. It’s so different than any other show, and it’s great to just “veg” in an alternate reality after a long workweek. GOTTA keep it on!!!

CBS made a HUGE HUGE HUGE mistake in cancelling Ghost Whisper!!! I think that season 6 would be a big hit if given a chance! I’m with Amy I don’t care when its on or what night I will watch it if it gets picked up by ABC!!!
I can not believe that CBS cancelled this show. I have followed the show since the beginning, actually looking forward to it. It seems to me that television stations keep shows that are questionable…but a show where there is no violence, where it shows an insight to crossing over into another world, of which anyone who has lost someone wants to believe that they are in a better place, another world…they decide to drop. I have seen it many times in the past with good wholesome shows…Touched By An Angel…Joan of Arcadia…just to mention a few. I hope that ABC… Read more »
