Well, it’s official. FOX has cancelled Thursday night drama Gracepoint after one season. There won’t be a second season on the network but there seems to be a small chance that it could continue elsewhere.
Gracepoint begins when a young boy is found dead on an idyllic beach in the small northern California town of Gracepoint. The tragedy and ensuing media frenzy soon turns neighbor against neighbor as the police try to figure out what happened. The cast includes David Tennant, Anna Gunn, Michael Peña, Virginia Kull, Madalyn Horcher, Kendrick Sampson, Nick Nolte, Jacki Weaver, Kevin Rankin, Sarah-Jane Potts, Stephen Louis Grush, Kevin Zegers, Jessica Lucas, and Nikolas Filipovic.
The ratings for Gracepoint started out low and got worse as the season progressed. For whatever reason, many viewers just weren’t interested in the series — despite being assured that the mystery would be solved by the end of the 10 episodes.
With such poor ratings, it’s no surprise that FOX has cancelled the series. TVLine has confirmed it and actually, the network had already quietly told viewers it wasn’t coming back. At the end of a preview, the final episode of the season was called the “series finale.”
While Gracepoint won’t be returning to FOX, showrunner Dan Futterman has hopes that the Shine America production company will find an alternative home for the series. In a recent interview, he said, “You know as much as I do at this point. Shine, there’s been some changes at the company and so I don’t know what the intention is to do with the programming that they’ve got. [Co-showrunner Anya Epstein] and I would love the opportunity, but we don’t know any more than you do.”
What do you think? Would you like to Gracepoint return for a second season? Was FOX justified in cancelling this show? Would you watch season two on another channel?
Another nail in the coffin for quality, intelligent television. Our instant gratification society can’t stand long-format drama where the brain is required to do a little work. And boo to Fox for again allowing itself to demean the intelligence of the viewers for the sake of chasing the “Holy Grail” of winning ONE LOUSY THURSDAY NIGHT HOUR. Lets have more of Gordan Ramsey putting prepubescents on display for their parents gratification and our vicarious thrills.
I liked the show but must confess that it was aired and portrayed as a mini-series therefore I didn’t watch it weekly and opted to w Binge watch the mini-series as opposed to the weekly viewing sessions. I am sure that othersdid the same thing and hope that another network will bring it back our I’ll be forced to watch it from the”Brits” So fingers crossed we can see it on our side of the continent with our actors our I’ll have to rewatch the whole series on Netflix from the BBC collection. Grrrr, I don’t want to start them… Read more »

Why does every good show that comes on fox always get canceld. I mean come on if you are going to show one season you can’t just leave us hanging. I enjoyed waching gracepoint each week with my mom. We looked forward to waching it every week!!! I think gracepoint was one of foxes best tv show ever aired and if gracepoint does not come back on for a second season I will no longer be waching any new fox shows because you will probobly end up canceling it too. So please don’t just leave us all hanging. Me and… Read more »
I loved this show. The acting was great, the scenery was beautiful and the story kept bringing me back. What more does anyone want?
I really loved Gracepoint! I don’t know how they would continue, but I would gladly watch the show. I have been watching it on Hulu plus because I don’t have regular cable. It would be great if it found another home. The writing and the characters are wonderful. I am sure they could work out another story.
Once again I ask “Season Two of What?
Mini Series!!!
Diego, you are correct as I recall the way the series was promoted. But I wouldn’t be too harsh on those bemoaning the outcome.. After all, the last scene did allow some wiggle room for a continuation and BroadChurch is going into a second season so those who like Gracepoint exhibit “Hope Springs Eternal” philosophy. I suspect Fox will not waver and they probably couldn’t if they wanted to do so. These networks are more devoted to run of the mill productions rather than intelligent , well presented fare. I guess we diehard fans will have to settle for Broadchurch.
I agree William. I am going to buy the first season of Broadchurch on DVD and then watch season two on BBC America.
Let’s face it people would rather watch stupid ass shows like real housewives bunny boo boo. Very sad!! Just so thankful fox had nothing to do with the walking dead!!!!! 🙂
I thought the show was great. I certainly would like to see more of it, but, I don’t know how they could possibly keep the same characters unless the small town suddenly had a serial killer. It was written to be a limited run show.
Definitely a great show, it is so nice having a story with a story you can follow until the end. So sick of fake reality shows!
I liked Gracepoint. It was filmed in my town which I thought was cool. I would definitely watch another season.
I just watched the entire season in two days! So good!! I’m not sure how they could continue with the current characters into a second season but would love the chance to see a new story from this show
I thought it was great!
I would love to watch Gracepoint for another season! I thought it was great, it met my expectations of being loaded with suspense, suspicions of who did it and a great insight that let me get very familiar with all the characters.
The show was only a limited 10-episode season. It was never intended to continue. However, like Broadchurch, it could have come back with an entirely different storyline or they could have made up something else. It wasn’t canceled, but rather they just let the story end as originally intended.
I would certainly watch Gracepoint on another network. I think it’s pretty lame that Fox is cancelling this after a limited 10-episode season. Fox has become the Gordon Ramsey network with Hell’s Kitchen, Masterchef and now masterchef junior running and repeating during the week. Enough already!! At this point the only other shows I watch on Fox are Sleepy Hollow and Gotham.
