It’s no secret that Gracepoint on FOX is really struggling in the ratings. While we know that there’s no chance the series will be back for a second season, it looks like the show may not be on Thursday nights for long either.
Gracepoint begins when a young boy is found dead on an idyllic beach in the small northern California town of Gracepoint. The tragedy and media frenzy soon turns neighbor against neighbor as the police try to figure out what happened. The cast includes David Tennant, Anna Gunn, Michael Peña, Virginia Kull, Madalyn Horcher, Kendrick Sampson, Nick Nolte, Jacki Weaver, Kevin Rankin, Sarah-Jane Potts, Stephen Louis Grush, Kevin Zegers, Jessica Lucas, and Nikolas Filipovic.
The show is currently FOX’s lowest-rated scripted series in the coveted 18-49 demographic. It’s averaging a poor 1.0 rating with 4.09 million viewers.
The November sweeps period starts next Thursday, October 30th, and runs through November 26th. It’s important for the network financially to get as many people tuning in to their programming as possible between those dates.
As a result, it’s very likely that FOX won’t keep poorly-rated Gracepoint on the regular schedule for much longer. I suspect that they will soon announce that the series is moving to Saturday nights. Here’s why:
On the Hell’s Kitchen Facebook page, the network has posted a couple graphics that indicate that the show can be seen on Thursday nights — except the reality series currently airs on Wednesday evenings. If Hell’s Kitchen is moving to Thursdays, it’s most likely to replace struggling Gracepoint and not Bones.
Last week, the network re-aired the first two episodes of Gracepoint on Saturday night. Sports programming will fill the next two Saturday schedules. I suspect that FOX will resume airing repeats and then new episodes of Gracepoint after that — likely in pairs — until all 10 installments have run.
On the positive side, at least the network will air all of the remaining episodes and the small audience will be able to see the mystery solved.
What do you think? Do you think FOX will burn off the remaining episodes on Saturday nights? Will you still watch them if that happens?
I will watch whatever night it is played. I watched Broadchurch and want to see all of Gracepoint too.
I’ll watch it whatever night it’s on. I thought it was only intended to be a one season show. Sort of a mini-series. Glad they are going to run all the episodes
I would contine to watch Gracepoint, whatever night it was on.
David Tennant is one of my favorite actors!
Yes, let’s get rid of all these great Series for the dumb down public! Come on keep Gracepoint on and finish the series!
I think a Saturday night slot is the only way you could increase your numbers while finishing out the season- as there is really no other competition on Saturdays. But it needs publicity. Many people evidently don’t know the storyline, or the comparisons to Twin Peaks, etc. But truly, you’ll need something of the same caliber to follow it up- as a new, larger audience will be upset to get reeled in then let go so abruptly.
Damn it. I just talked my wife into watching this. She usually won’t watch a show that doesn’t have a season on the air.
I’m getting really tired of networks pulling shows that aren’t hits with the under thirty crowd. they seem to forget that the over 40 crowd is the demographic they should be trying to lure in as WE SPEND MORE MONEY!!!!If television gets any dumber I’m turning off my cable permanetly
Couldn’t have said it better myself!
saw this coming two minutes into the first episode.
Yes, they should finish it.I want to know what happen to danny,
I watched the whole series of the Broadchurch show and this is as good , but a little different. The problem is people do not know it is on regular tv and it is based on English drama NOT “American” drama. The difference of that is Americans need to have faster moving , guns and shoot out drama. Big on action , low of substance , like plot development. I hope I can still watch it and its not pulled. Try letting people know its here.
I think ism going to stop watching Fox. Grace Point isa good show,Fox just hasdn’t given its chance. If they are going to pull it, they should at least let it run its course. I guess if the young people doesn’t like it then we middle age hasdn’t got a chance. Probably not enough sex. Please let the show finish up the 13 weeks that u signed the show up for.
Watch the original Broadchurch. That one is getting a second season.
This show continues to show the qualities of excellent writing and presentation. It has the tone and visual aspects reminiscent of Twin Peaks some years ago. I like the mystery format rather than just good guys trying to outwit bad guys. The acting is certainly superior to most of the shows out there . It isn’t surprising that its audience is comprised of folks who want to think more than just be stimulated visually. After this story is completed, I really would like to see the writers and cast develop another plot next season.. Hope springs eternal, doesn’t it?
Very good points. I hate how they always cater to the dumb down public!
As long as they finish the mystery, I will watch the rest
Fox’s sending Gracepoint to a Saturday night slot is a “Death Knoll”, that’s what they did to Rake. If they were to give it some advertising showing the times and day with clips, it might’ve made some momentum in keeping it and possibly going for a second season.
