It’s no secret that Gracepoint on FOX is really struggling in the ratings. While we know that there’s no chance the series will be back for a second season, it looks like the show may not be on Thursday nights for long either.
Gracepoint begins when a young boy is found dead on an idyllic beach in the small northern California town of Gracepoint. The tragedy and media frenzy soon turns neighbor against neighbor as the police try to figure out what happened. The cast includes David Tennant, Anna Gunn, Michael Peña, Virginia Kull, Madalyn Horcher, Kendrick Sampson, Nick Nolte, Jacki Weaver, Kevin Rankin, Sarah-Jane Potts, Stephen Louis Grush, Kevin Zegers, Jessica Lucas, and Nikolas Filipovic.
The show is currently FOX’s lowest-rated scripted series in the coveted 18-49 demographic. It’s averaging a poor 1.0 rating with 4.09 million viewers.
The November sweeps period starts next Thursday, October 30th, and runs through November 26th. It’s important for the network financially to get as many people tuning in to their programming as possible between those dates.
As a result, it’s very likely that FOX won’t keep poorly-rated Gracepoint on the regular schedule for much longer. I suspect that they will soon announce that the series is moving to Saturday nights. Here’s why:
On the Hell’s Kitchen Facebook page, the network has posted a couple graphics that indicate that the show can be seen on Thursday nights — except the reality series currently airs on Wednesday evenings. If Hell’s Kitchen is moving to Thursdays, it’s most likely to replace struggling Gracepoint and not Bones.
Last week, the network re-aired the first two episodes of Gracepoint on Saturday night. Sports programming will fill the next two Saturday schedules. I suspect that FOX will resume airing repeats and then new episodes of Gracepoint after that — likely in pairs — until all 10 installments have run.
On the positive side, at least the network will air all of the remaining episodes and the small audience will be able to see the mystery solved.
What do you think? Do you think FOX will burn off the remaining episodes on Saturday nights? Will you still watch them if that happens?
This is a great show! Please do not cancel any of the remaining segments. Each episode makes you want more and more, and yet I hate to see it come to a conclusion.
I love the show! It’s got too much competition on Thursday. Saturday would be a perfect spot for the show because it takes concentration to watch it. Perfect with a bucket of popcorn!
It doesn’t matter to me when it’s aired, since I DVR it anyway. The method in which they record ratings is antiquated and misrepresents the truth of who is watching what. It’s not the best show I’ve seen, but I definitely want to see how it ends.
I watched the same program from England last year, PBS? There were probably a lot of us so that’s why it’s failing.
I really like this show!!! Please don’t leave us hanging…we need the ending to air!
Everything about it reminded me of, The Killing. I get there was a British version of the show. But after the first episode, I began to compare the two.
I love the show. It’s new & some people are just
Finding out about it. I’ll keep watching.
I like the show and if it moves to Saturdays then there would be one show on Saturdays to watch. Right now Fridays and Saturdays have nothing on TV worth watching.
This show isn’t very good. Acting is painful. Like a train wreck, I watch.
Well, I guess I don’t care if they take it off, but the least they can do is finish it. Some of us really do like this program.
This is a Great show it keeps u guessing I love it
I am really enjoying Gracepoint. Since it’s only 10 episodes, I don’t see why it can’t be played out on Thursdays. But, I will be happy as long as it airs. I hate when there’s a show, especially in a limited run and a network pulls it and you don’t know the outcome. I’m surprised at the low ratings because of two things. 1, it’s good; 2, David Tennants appeal. I originally watched it because of him. I guess Dr. Who fans (of which I’m one) in general don’t necessarily care for murder mysteries.
i must say it is a bit slow but i am enjoying it, i love david tennant i never saw the original of this show, and must say i am sick and tired of them starting shows then axing them after 1st season ,most of the shows are great ones , i dread watching a show now in case it gets axed smh ,when will they leave the decent shows alone and stop axing the good ones and dump the crap ones
I have been watching Gracepointe from the beginning and I will be upset if it gets cancelled!!!
I love the pace. I’m so tired of ADD type broadcasting. Programs now are loud,, fast and hyped up. It’s hard to differentiate them from commercials. The pace of Gracepoint allows us to enjoy the scenery, see the body-language of the characters, appreciate the nuances in relationships and even think about what we’re watching.
Yes will watch whenever it is on ! Bring on season 2 ,this show is too good to cancel !
This just begs the question, again, why do American television producers think remaking a UK show will work? And why would Tennant play the same role here? Using two supposedly different accents. Just too weird.
They remake them because they are sometimes wildly successful as with ‘The Office’. I would guess Tennant would take the role with a different accent for two reasons. As with the first British series, it is a chance for him to show he is a talented actor who can play something other than Doctor Who, and use a different accent to possibly help land roles requiring something other than a British accent. How he or the show is doing, I don’t know as I am still recording, but not watching them yet. I did enjoy the British version on BBCA,… Read more »
David Tennant doesn’t need to prove he can play something other than Doctor Who. He has been around for twenty years. He is a critically acclaimed, multiple award winning stage, television and film actor who starred in something like ten shows in the last two years alone, including months on stage in sold out performances for the Royal Shakespeare Company’s production of Richard II, which was broadcast to theaters around the world. He also starred as Hamlet during his time on Doctor Who. Heck, he is a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Board. He just isn’t well-known in the… Read more »
Tennant has given interviews explaining his choices. This accent helped him to differentiate the two characters. He said you put on a different accent and it makes you feel different, move differently, speak at a different rate.
